BUSH: WE CAN'T BOOT 11M ILLEGALS
NY Post ^ | 5/15/06

Posted on 05/15/2006 5:48:16 AM PDT by areafiftyone

May 15, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - In his live, nationally televised address tonight, President Bush will tell Americans that it's impossible to deport the estimated 11 million illegal aliens living here.

"We must reject amnesty, but recognize that it is not realistic to round up millions of people and send them home," said White House spokeswoman Maria Tamburri in a preview of Bush's speech.

She said Bush plans to spell out his vision for sealing the border, enforcing the law, and "creating a rational system for workers to come into our country and to do jobs Americans won't do." Bush plans to visit the U.S.-Mexican border this week, and will dispatch his Cabinet to help sell the immigration plan.

The Senate plans to return to the contentious issue this week now that Republicans and Democrats have a deal to plow through controversial amendments. But the House and Senate are far apart on whether to put illegals on a path to citizenship.

Tamburri said Bush would call for "better equipment, increased funding, and advanced technology" to secure the border.

She didn't confirm press reports that Bush wants to expand deployments of National Guard Troops to step up border enforcement. Some Guard troops are already deployed in Arizona and New Mexico, but Bush is considering a big increase.

White House National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley said that enforcement was the Border Patrol's job - but then asked whether they needed help from the Guard on an "interim basis."

"This is not about militarizing the border," he said. The president is looking to do everything he can to secure the border. It's what the American people want."

Look at who runs for office today. Thanks to McClown and others who believe in "campaign finance reform" only the very wealthy can afford to run for higher office.

Gone are the days of log cabin presidents.

Those days have been gone for a long, long time.

This stuff didn't just start in the past ten years - it's been more like the past hundred years.

None of this is new - it certainly didn't start with Sen. McInsane.

Are you trying to be antagonistic?

Re the summer jobs --- Help Wanted signs everywhere indicate to me that employers are looking for workers. If every college student is already working then these employers are looking for workers who do not exist in the USA, and they have to hire foreigners or not have clean motel rooms, etc.

If Freepers tell me that their college age children cannot find a summer job then I wonder why they are not taking the traditional resort jobs that kids always used to take.

I don't know where you live, but has it occurred to you that not every place has the same job opportunities? And I don't know why a kid might not take a traditional resort job (if indeed they are not) however, I suspect most try to take jobs near home so they can live there and actually save money instead of spending it all on living expenses.
I went to HS in a resort town, and the living there is generally more expensive.
I'm sorry you believe I'm being antagonistic, but you are making statements and backing them up only with your belief or your personal local experience. I'm tired of hearing that our kids are all too lazy to work.

Ronald Reagan was the son of shoe salesman.

Harry Truman's father was, I believe, a farmer, and I don't think Eisenhower's parents were wealthy.

Clinton didn't come from money, nor did Johnson, and I think Nixon's origins were rather ordinary.

I don't know about Carter or Ford, but I suspect they weren't from wealthy families.

The Bushes are loaded. So are the Gores. Kerry married into wealth and was rolling in it. The Kennedys have bucks coming out of the wazoo. Romney is loaded so is Schwarzenegger, Corzine, and a host of other leading politicians. Look at some of the other contenders in BOTH parties. I think most of the more successful ones were loaded - like Edwards the slip and fall attorney.

Sure, this HAS happened in the past, but I see an ominous trend being aided by "campaign finance reform" which makes it harder for ordinary Joes to get in the running and leaves positions open to people who are filthy rich.

Having wealth doesn't necessarily mean your a bad fellow. Two of our greatest Presidents - George Washington and Teddy Roosevelt were wealthy. But they were REAL "mensches". They knew how to live like ordinary folks and rough it. They didn't live in a dream world and weren't really born with silver spoons in their mouths. Their heads were screwd on straight and they worked hard for a lot of what they did have.

People like Kerry and McPaine just married into it.

I happen to be heavily involved with multiple contractors and building companies right now. Several home builders are good friends.

Have one on me, don't post drunk, it makes you look like an idiot.

We had prop 187 here in California so that illegals could not get public assistance. After it was passed it was deemed "unconstitutional"...

I have a LOT of respect for teachers, it's a job that gets tougher every year. And when an involved teacher gets into a classroom a lot of good things happen.....

I certainly don't mind there being a Spanish option, just seems that when it reads my card it should be able to know that I want English. It adds nuisance step that is NOT needed.

"We" aren't using it that way. It's just odd to me that resources are allocated in that manner.

"Note to Pres Bush: You are wrong. Give them 90 days to exit the country. If they do not, they will be spending 10 years in jail - no bail, no parole. And if any employer hires an illegal - knowingly or unknowingly - they get one year in jail and $10,000 fine for each violation. Trust me - it will work."

Your Darn right it will work!

BUSH: WE CAN'T BOOT 11M ILLEGALS

If the President asked for groups of American volunteers to make it so, it would be easily possible IMO.

Offer $5 a head and people would get rich doing it.

We can't boot the 11 million but we can boot the large portion of the 11 million that aren't qualified for the guest worker program? Wait so is Bush lying about not being able to deport millions or lying about actually enforcing this new plan?

Is your position that no drugs are smuggled into the USA across that border?

Seventy five percent of the marijuana smoked here comes through Mexico, and the percentages for cocaine are probably higher.

I'm in California, so there is a lot of picking going on, especially now. Mexican illegals pick your strawberries. It's not pleasant work.

Hey I just got a letter from the NRA about a bill that would give Felons back their voting rights as a new study shows that in 1992 86% of felons who got their vote back voted for Bill Clinton for Presiden in 1992 and 95% in 1996.

S.450 "The Count Every vote act of 2005" and the House companion bill HR.939. Would change the voting rules and give convicted felons...the right to vote.
