May 15, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - In his live, nationally televised address tonight, President Bush will tell Americans that it's impossible to deport the estimated 11 million illegal aliens living here.
"We must reject amnesty, but recognize that it is not realistic to round up millions of people and send them home," said White House spokeswoman Maria Tamburri in a preview of Bush's speech.
She said Bush plans to spell out his vision for sealing the border, enforcing the law, and "creating a rational system for workers to come into our country and to do jobs Americans won't do." Bush plans to visit the U.S.-Mexican border this week, and will dispatch his Cabinet to help sell the immigration plan.
The Senate plans to return to the contentious issue this week now that Republicans and Democrats have a deal to plow through controversial amendments. But the House and Senate are far apart on whether to put illegals on a path to citizenship.
Tamburri said Bush would call for "better equipment, increased funding, and advanced technology" to secure the border.
She didn't confirm press reports that Bush wants to expand deployments of National Guard Troops to step up border enforcement. Some Guard troops are already deployed in Arizona and New Mexico, but Bush is considering a big increase.
White House National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley said that enforcement was the Border Patrol's job - but then asked whether they needed help from the Guard on an "interim basis."
"This is not about militarizing the border," he said. The president is looking to do everything he can to secure the border. It's what the American people want."

I like the sound of this one. :)
it is only a matter of time before a terror attack will happen again here in the US and will be brought upon by illegals.

This was mentioned on some news program over the weekend (I can't be sure where I saw it, since I skip around the dial). Presumably, Al Quaeda operatives could conceivably blend in with the Mexicans by learning their language and culture, and then just simply cross over with the other illegals. Sounds very plausible to me.
First one kicked in the ass back across the boarder should be Bush!
No money for Republicans. No vote for Republicans. No campaigning for Republicans. Bring on the Third Party!
Yes I know that means Hillary wins, but perhaps we can send a message to these Senate A-holes!
"Might be more constructive if you could come up with several alternatives to the problem."
The alternatives are as clear as the nose on your face and the Presidents.
Enforce the damn laws. Period. End of story. No need to round up 11 million. Upholding the laws will take care of the problem along with securing our damn borders.
That said, I believe illegal immigration has gotten out of hand and it's time to essentially seal the border with Mexico to stop further illegal immigration. Bush needs to also start a much more honest discussion of this issue. He and his people need to stop saying that the border patrol is adequately handling border security when we know (from pictures posted here) that some trails in southern Arizona are deliberately left unguarded by the BP. That kind of deception doesn't work any more in the internet age. Clinton could say that back in 1993 and nobody could challenge his statements effectively. Well not any more. People post pictures of Mexicans hiking down the trails, right here at FR. I've seen a number of these pictures. The dishonesty of our federal government on this issue is really getting people steamed up. That kind of clear deception has to stop.
Finally, Bush really needs to stop using that phrase, "jobs Americans won't do", which implies that we are all too soft or too lazy to do certain jobs. Instead, at least say something like "jobs that Americans don't want to do in sufficient numbers to keep our economy rolling with strong growth." That's the truth. There are Americans who will do any job, but there aren't enough of us who want to do some jobs, like harvesting fruit and produce. I've said enough. I hope the administration starts to listen more to conservatives.
The could be booted...but we aren't prepared for open civil war as we do so!
The Roman army had a technique called "decimation". If a legion had a major infraction, the commander would execute one in ten of the soldiers. The survivors got a clue and straightened up.
Smack one in ten, or one in one hundred lawbreaking businesses, and the rest might get a hint.
And never underestimate the resolve of the US government to actively pursue fines. Have a look at the zeal of the IRS for example.

I could!
why can't he?
It's hard to take too seriously a post from someone who earlier asserted that Mexico "deported" these people to the US.
You won't understand it, but the reality is that most Americans do not fundamentally consider the bulk of these immigrants as "criminals" worthy of rounding up and sending home.
Hispandering, prime time tonight.

MO, seems that some on FR wish to follow the most "efficient" deportation in modern history. A picture of which is below.
They just won't admit it, although I did have a frothing mouth admit that he admired the soviets expertise in border control last night.
Employers pay illegal aliens pennies on the dollar because they're illegal and it maximizes company profits. Labor costs are usualy the biggest expense for most companies so saving those pennies makes the company money.
Americans recognize that the employers should pay a dollar and they won't allow the employers to bulldoze them under and they don't take the jobs. How that is construed to be that it's now "a job Americans won't do" is beyond me.
So the truth, in essence, is that Americans aren't going to do jobs that don't pay a dollar and employers will keep on dishing out those pennies to illegal aliens.
Will you take mere pennies to be the POTUS, Mr. President, or do you want your whole dollar like your fellow Americans?
Why is he doing this to the Republican Party and the chances for Republicans to get elected or stay elected this November? This stinker will sink a number of Republicans and will hand seats to the Democrats.
Untrue, as a poster so eloquently pointed out last week if they can stop 6+million over the last five years they can most certainly, over time, get rid of the 20 million that are already here.
It's a matter of will and Bush isn't willing to do it. Saying it's not possible is just a lie.
"It's all about the votes and nothing else with them."
That's it. It's obvious the thinks he can make up for the loss in the covervative vote by getting an equal number of aliens voting rights as soon as possible.
I may be wrong, but for some reason I think Tony (much as I like him) is a believer in we can't round em up and ship em out too.

That's part of it, but it's also because of the severe eocnomic and diplomatic consequences of forced deportation.
