too long to read now bump!
I fear, that by the time I finish reading the article, Europe will have fallen.
Bump for when I've got time.
I'm afraid the response of a majority Europeans and Britons would be "Nothing to see here! Everyone move away please!".
I hope I will be proven wrong, and that Mr Weigel may probably don't know the real pictures "on the ground". But I'm not optimistic.
A very compelling article, worth reading the whole article.
In addition, the author refers to this site: http://www.brusselsjournal.com/ for news on the European culture wars. It is shocking to see how far they have fallen over there. For example, this:
"A German reader informs us that it is not just the Catholic Church that has its quislings selling out to the Muslims. On Palm Sunday (9 April) a Protestant church in Bochum/Germany celebrated Muhammads birthday. The church invited the local Turkish community and the Turkish Consul, Munis Dirik, to attend the service. A Turkish music band played sufi music during the service, in which Protestants and Muslims joined together in honour of Muhammad."
"In his sermon, Fred Sobiech, the Protestant vicar, tried to link the figures of Muhammad and Jesus, saying: 'Today we remember the birth and life of Muhammad and the beginning of the week of the passion of Christ, leading to Good Friday, the day Jesus of Nazareth was crucified.'"
A photo of a Muslim banner hanging in the church is reproduced on the site by way of illustration. The Europeans have really lost it.
"Not a single EU member has a replacement-level fertility rate, i.e., the 2.1 children per woman needed to maintain a stable population."
And your point is?
Who says that the exising European population level is desirable?
Why shouldn't populations regulate their own future?
The argument is about foreign immigrant populations intruding and breeding their way to ascendancy.
I'm afraid, it had fallen even before the article was written. The un-checked and un-intended results of 'good' ideas like Classical Liberalism, together with many wars among themselves, have led Europeans into nihilism and self-hatred.
Excellent piece on the disaster in the making in Europe.
Thank you for the post. This article is essential reading for people who want to understand the world today.
Insanity.
This article is a sad prognosis for Europe. The Europeans I know and talk to about these topics are quite aware of the realities described. They don't see any hope for improvement of the situation, and therefore decline to have kids without a future. The EU government with its increasing regulations over national governments has contributed to a decline of nationalism, which while reducing the potential of future wars, has also contributed to a feeling of futility and lack of purpose. With their high level of unemployment due to socialistic obstacles to entrepreneurship, they're mainly concerned about survival, as we've seen in the recent French protests. And this is what the liberals have in store for us here, by advocating more powers to the United Nations.
Europeans, for the most part, have declared God dead.
Europeans, for the most part, will soon be the ones dead.
We have our own immigrants our government is allowing in to maintain an overall stable birthrate. They are called Mexicans. However, they happen to be Christian [with a few Kommies thrown in].
This is a sexist outrage demanding immediate reparation.
Why is "father" A, and "mother" B? I expect the usual suspects to spring into action any time now.
the communist/elitist males that developed this crap would never consider themselves as 'b',despite the obvious evidence to the contrary
"The Europeans have really lost it."
So it would appear. That "celebration", it's just blasphemy.
I will read this all later, I just can't have my head exploding right before the Mom's day brunch we're going to!
In short, the moral relativism of Europe is often mere window-dressing, a mask for Western self-hatred.
The above sentence summarizes most of the article.
