Headline only so far...
You know, I wish I could believe that. You seem to forget that he's a politician just like the rest of them in Washington. I REALLY want him to mean it because I want the border near my home to actually be secured, my neighborhood to be safer, my taxes to go down, the local trauma center to re-open, the OB GYN clinics to re-open, etc. I hate having my daughter stand at a bus stop a short block away from a popular and dangerous human smuggling load pick up point. I don't like my kids riding their bicycles on neighborhood streets that are used by human and drug smugglers and which have been the scene of high speed car chases. I don't like being harassed by border intruders when I camp with my family. I don't like being chased by human smugglers who try to run me off the road and yell at me, "we're going to kill you, m*****f*****!" I don't like my friends being beaten and nearly strangled to death in the parking lot of my daughter's elementary school as illegal aliens steal their car. I don't like my elected officials becoming corrupt and falling under the influence of a foreign government, human trafficking cartels, and a widespread criminal enterprise which employs and exploits laborers.
Dammit! I want the President to mean it this time. But I will complain loudly if I find that he doesn't really mean it. His actions will prove or disprove his words. We'll see...
Can you document that he has lied about anything like this before? (with link please)
Whooooa! You give powerful testimony!
"For some reason I like m16's better than chain link."
I hope you aren't advocating killing anyone. That's pretty sick.
Let's hope so. I'm still skeptical, Bush has let us down on this issue too often. But this certainly sounds like a step in the right direction. We'll find out Monday night.
I thought the same thing.
Is this deployment for defensive purposes or is it a humanitarian-aid mission?
He has never said ANYTHING like this before, Spiff..........has he? (assuming that this report is accurate).
If you think he will say it, and not DO it, then you have to think he is a liar.
You're not talking about the necessary compromising, or adapting that takes place in governance because the two party system. You're talking about his saying, "This is what we will do"........and not meaning it, and not doing it.
That's lying. And having prayed daily for the man for over five years, and having watched his actions VERY carefully from a Christian perspective for as long, I know that he is deeply honest.
So........I guess we will have to agree to disagree, because I believe he is a man of character, and you don't, and we won't ever get beyond that.
I'm not going to advocate that we hunt and kill border intruders. However, a little perspective is in order. That is that illegal aliens are responsible for more deaths of American citizens per year than all of the annual terrorist deaths in Israel. 4,400 Americans are murdered by illegal aliens annually, another 4,800 Americans are run down by illegal alien drunk drivers. 3,000 American children are sexually abused by illegal aliens every year too. Go here.
I hope that puts things into a little more perspective for you.
And that doesn't even address the fact that we too need to keep terrorists from crossing our borders. My daughter attends an elementary school about 1 mile north of the border, seperated only by a rural road and a couple twisted strands of rusty barbed wire. A Chechnya style massacre is a real possibility and the terrorists would have no problem at all coming across and getting to that school.
Bro', every poster I see here complaining about the border are long time Bush/WoT supporters. Many have worked on/for his campaign; personally, I've never voted for a non-R in over 25 years.
If he came out with an aggressive, proactive approach that focused on EXISTING laws, including border enforcement and employment/lending rules & regulations, and followed that up with Haliburton (joking), et al being granted emergency contracts (no different from the WoT), then he'd see his numbers shoot past 50%.
I'll be right there beside you.
I think you're right. If President Bush talks real border enforcement and doesn't inject more junk supporting the Kennedy amnesty scheme, I'll send roses and put some 'W' stickers back on my car. He'll earn those WTGs! We'll see.
"If they actually make it to the border they will only be there long enough for the Bush/McCain/Kennedy Amnesty Bill to pass then they will be recalled."
I had the impression the bill had died.
We just returned from a trip to Tucson. I grew up there and it was easy to see the changes that the illegals have wrought. I think this action will be much like the raids and arrests in Houston where the illegals were released in less than 5 hours. So far I haven't seen any real action on the part of the government to stop the inbound flow or to send back those that are already here. Hope I am wrong.
I'm talking about the perpetually angry, Bush-hating minority who don't really CARE if he does something right on this issue, because they will hate him anyway.
Understand?
Shooting's no good, you're probably right. So how `bout one of them `invisible fences'?
Then the only problem is---how to get them to wear those collars . . . . .
Bzzt! Aye yi yi!
Bzzzzzt! Caramba!
Bzzzt bzzzt. Cabron!!!
Bzzzzzzzzzzzt Dios Mio . . . .
. . . so the plane was still losing altitude, and the Texan stood up, yelled `Remember the Alamo!' and chucked a Mexican out the door.
Tomorrow (I hope), I'm going to try to get a thread started about practical, positive things we ALL can do to really put pressure on in the RIGHT way to get some action on this, and get it fast.
Will you do that?
"Typical jerk ingrate response... we don't need your kind around here."
So, you're done to childish name calling.
From your type, I'm not surprised or even offended.
I take that as a compliment.
I don't identify with "your type".
And people wonder why I'm a bit passionate about this issue. I live here near the border. It hasn't always been this bad. It has grown worse, year after year, until it became absolutely intolerable. Each incident wakes more and more people up. It is kind of like the saying that a conservative is a liberal who has been mugged.
But when I say that I live close to the border, in fact I have all of these problems and I live a few miles from the border. I have friends who actually live right next to the border itself and their problems are terribly worse than the ones I describe for me and my family. The stories these people tell are heartbreaking.
I agree with that. Stop the leak, then start deporting them ALL. Families whomever and let them do through the legal process - just like anyone else that has LEGALLY immigrated here.
