Police Chief David Rohrer said a 40-year-old female detective who died at a hospital after the shooting became the first officer to die at the hands of an assailant in the 66-year history of the department.
And police said a 53-year-old officer remains in critical condition after undergoing surgery late Monday night. It was not clear whether the third officer, a 28-year-old man, was shot or sustained his injuries from flying glass or a ricocheting bullet.
"My 1,320 officers, plus our civilian employees and all of our employees are grieving," Rohrer said. "We are supporting the family of the officer who is seriously wounded and we are supporting, obviously, the family of the officer who was killed in the line of duty."
Police have identified the suspected gunman as 18-year-old Michael Kennedy. They said he targeted the officers. Authorities said the female detective had recently served a criminal warrant on the suspect, resulting from an argument during which a dog was killed.
Police said Kennedy was killed in the exchange of gunfire in the parking lot of the station during the 3:30 p.m. attack.

Here we go again....A DOG was killed. Something screwy going on in BLET (Basic Law Enforcement Training). Anyone have the CALEA standards on shooting dogs?
Best regards,
This morning they said the kid was hiding in the woods adjacent to the police station parking lot. They also said this kid, who had just graduated last year from a local high school, had been arrested recently for carjacking in Maryland. The kid was a Goth adherent.
WOW! what a change from when I lived in Chantilly!
I graduated from Chantilly HS in 1979, joined the Marine Corp and haven't been back since. I am sure the whole place would be alien looking to me now. Didn't even go to my 20th high school reunion because I wanted to keep my memories as they were.
I will keep my memories of 28 and 50 being mostly wide open fields; going to Downs store after school before they built the Dart store area in Brookfield subdivision. Heck, when I worked at Dulles Airport I would drive by the Redskins training area. (I understand that is no longer there)
Met my husband in the USMC, he was from Fairfax, VA, been married 25 years and counting! :-)
The liberals want the perps to get away, probably.
A massive poophole, IMHO. I should know, I lived there until 2001. A contractor converted the house next to me into a bunkhouse for his braceros. After 3 months of screaming drunks, broken doors, mexican whores and daylight drug deals I got out of there. I was frankly amazed that I was able to sell my house.
Yep, London Towne is the ghetto.
28 and 50 interchange is a traffic-choked nightmare surrounded by big-box stores, corporate office parks and cheap airport hotels.
I should know, it's right down the street from me. Sigh. Off to fight the traffic over there for my son's music class.
It was just a picture of a fool with a tatoo on his head. : )
For full disclosure, I added the keyword "aliens" to the keyword list, so that this thread can be documented as an example, IMO, of some on FR's wild specualtion and inate ethnic animus.
Do you have to use the word "animus" in every post?
Its getting annoying.
Perhaps I should add the keyword "Horse's Ass" to any thread you post in . . .
My speculation as to what the evildoer was up to is every bit as valid as all the others on this thread, thank you.
Go right ahead, I ain't going to argue with you that you are an expert in the subject of "Horse's Ass".
"Police said Kennedy was killed in the exchange of gunfire in the parking lot of the station during the 3:30 p.m. attack."
At least we don't have to worry about wasting tax-payers money on a trial. I have no doubt the b@stard's trial before Our Lord is already over and he's rotting in the flames of hell!
