WASHINGTON - Angry conservatives are driving the approval ratings of President Bush and the GOP-led Congress to dismal new lows, according to an AP-Ipsos poll that underscores why Republicans fear an Election Day massacre.
Six months out, the intensity of opposition to Bush and Congress has risen sharply, along with the percentage of Americans who believe the nation is on the wrong track.
The AP-Ipsos poll also suggests that Democratic voters are far more motivated than Republicans. Elections in the middle of a presidents term traditionally favor the party whose core supporters are the most energized.

If it is OK for you to call me a RINO, I'm sure you won't mind if I call you a far right wingnut.
I have long advocated surgery to remove a cancer that has invaded a body but this guy really has the diagnosis wrong.
The conservatives are the healthy part of the body. It is the liberal left (what he describes as the middle) that must be excised. Left alone, they will grow and the GOP will be indistinquishable from the Dems.
His vision would offer two sides of the same party. My vision offers a clear and distinct choice of two different parties.
Neither do I, but it has become apparent to me that, barring a huge transformation, the Republican Party has left me.
Time to work for either a significant transformation in the Party, or a new Party.
The nation cannot survive a Democrat Congress in '06 or a Democrat President in '08.
HST, we may not be able to survive a Republican Congress or President, either!
Totally concur.
Taxman for President!

LOL!! Hyperbolic paranoia is spreading through this place like a virus.
Is that like "Do you still beat your wife, Badray?"
A$$hole question, assuming what you need to assume to make yourself fell superior to everybody else. But, of course, that's all you have to argue with -- accusing those who don't agree with your "shoot to kill" agenda of using illegals.
Why do you want the illegals to be here? What's in it for you?
Why don't you find AND post any post where I have said that?
I can wait while you look.
Agreed.
Well, the Bush era of control over the GOP is moving towards its end. Things are going to change, one way or another.
If the GOP is to be transformed in a positive way, a huge part of that has to do with who we choose to be our '08 standard-bearer.
One of our problems is that at the moment, we don't have a champion.
The other side of that is the RINOs have a whole passel of RINO candidates to split over...so we have some small amount of time to find one.
I could support that! :-)
The (National Federation of) Republican Assemblies may be the way to go for now. Their list of principles is one that I can proudly support.

Will you appoint Eternal Vigilance as Chief Justice?
Badray at the head of the RNC! :-)
The very thought will make certain folks foam at the mouth.

I do think that we can survive another (even Clinton) Democrat president because we would again be galvanized against a known enemy. He or she would be seen as a clear and present danger.
OTOH, another so called compassionate conservative Republican like this one, who is not perceived to be a threat will continue to do damage and solidify what damage that's already been done. All the things that have been perpetrated on us was 'okay' because 'our guy' did it.
These things are wrong and do damage no matter who does them. I just wish that we had some allies in the Senate to back us up.
Thank God our founding fathers were NOT all single issue voters!!
I'll take it if I can double as Attorney General. There are some crimes against the Republic that I'd like to see people prosecuted for.
After the divorce, I took to beating you instead of my wife. I just see you as another dead horse who won't lie down.
You know that I can't post anything definitive from you because your posts consist of ad hominem attacks and innuendo. You just seem to be on the wrong side of every issue so it is my assumption that you are for illegals too. I'm just trying to ascertain why.
Attorney General was gonna be my first pick for you. But you're my friend, and I didn't want to insult you with the "Attorney" thing. ;-)
That sounds suspiciously like you couldn't find anything to back up that pack of lies up the thread, so you decided to make some sort of personal attack.
You just seem to be on the wrong side of every issue so it is my assumption that you are for illegals too
I presume by "wrong side of every issue" you mean that I don't have the same nasty attitude about the world that you do.
And for that, I am eternally grateful.
Thank God our founding fathers were NOT all blind in one eye and couldn't see out of the other but yet were still prone to leaping to conclusions.
Many of are expressing our anger and outrage over MANY issues, not just one. This isn't meant to be idle bitching, but a warning to the GOP powers that be that there is serious displeasure and unrest and they had better take these warnings seriously.
We don't want Pelosi or Reid or any Democrat in charge of anything, but we most assuredly do not want Republicans who won't stand up to them either. Despite our biggest edge in 40 years in the Senate, you wouldn't even know that we are the majority. That's not what we wanted. That's not what we were told that we would get by voting the pubbies into office.
As long as there are people who say, "Gee whiz fellas, I'm not happy but you sure are better than the other guys so I'm gonna vote you back in." we will never make any headway. These guys had better be afraid for their jobs. That's what they value most and they used us and our issues to get there. If they want to go back to these cushy jobs, they had better get of their fat asses and do something. We didn't vote for the Party, we voted to advance principle.
LOL
I was thinking that same thing about you so I put you in a position to slap some lawyers around.
But there are some good ones. I even know a few of them.
