Republican Right Abandoning Bush
MSNBC ^ | May 5, 2006 | AP

WASHINGTON - Angry conservatives are driving the approval ratings of President Bush and the GOP-led Congress to dismal new lows, according to an AP-Ipsos poll that underscores why Republicans fear an Election Day massacre.

Six months out, the intensity of opposition to Bush and Congress has risen sharply, along with the percentage of Americans who believe the nation is on the wrong track.

The AP-Ipsos poll also suggests that Democratic voters are far more motivated than Republicans. Elections in the middle of a president’s term traditionally favor the party whose core supporters are the most energized.

Zarqawi still lives

Technically true. But it isn't a life I would wish on a dog. Osama bin Laden and Zarqawi have been reduced to scratching out an anxiety-ridden existence in obscurity in the mud and shadows, like Ted Kaczinski.

If you take off the reality warping specs the MSM gave you to wear, you will see that things have generally gone well and continue to improve in Iraq.

Give Bush his props. He's fought this war better than any other recent president would have or could have, with the likely exception of Ronald Reagan.

War with Iran?? It will come, but under what president we haven't determined that yet.
As weak as the GOP are showing themselves, I don't think it will be under President Bush, unless, he is forced by Iran.

If Iran is going to attack, they will wait to see who the next president is going to be. They know our government as well as any American does, and they understand our politics.
They are crazy like a fox, and so are their leaders.
If we were to lose the war in Iraq, than all hell will break loose and, this could be in their plans.

With Turkey lining its borders with large amount of troops and Iran doing the same we must hold on to Iraq, the cost is any-ones guess.

If we think gas prices are high now, wait until Iran or Turkey gain control of Iraq, it won't be a matter of the price of gas, the big question will be, who has any to sell at any price?

"otherwise you'll pollute the party "

I care about my country winning the War on Terror. I care about America remaining a Republic as opposed to a socialist nightmare. I care about the sovereignty of the USA. I am not alone.
I do not care about any political party. I am not alone about that too.

"He'll tar Republican candidates with his amnesty approach and they'll lose in droves."

- That's right, they'll desert Republican candidates in droves to vote Democrat - who also believe in the amnesty approach. Hmmmm. Somethin' ain't right with this argument. But no matter. Bush is going to lose big time when he seeks re-election in 2008. I know I'm not gonna vote for him again.

"Conservatives didn't abandon Bush, he abandoned us."

Bush governed Texas as a moderate. He campaigned in 2000 as a moderate. He was elected as a moderate. He has governed as a moderate. You're dis-satisfied because he didn't lurch to the right.

The far right has no claim on Bush because they didn't elect him. They didn't turn out very well in 2000.

Bush won Florida by 700 votes. Nader syphoned off 90,000 votes from Gore.

Even after Florida, Bush would not have been elected were it not for Democrats in West Virginia giving him their handful of electoral votes that put him over the top.

The reality is that the far right doesn't have enough votes to elect a president. Your only claim to political power is that you can prevent someone from being elected.

Bush has pretty much lived up to what he campaigned on.

Well, sort of.

But he had to be dragged back to reality with his Harriet Miers selection.

Ditto with the Dubai/UAE ports thing.

Bush's push for amnesty for illegal immigrants is STRIKE three, and has convinced many Republicans (like me) that GWB is losing his grip.

I previously would have walked the earth barefoot over broken glass to support President Bush.

Now I don't even want to see his face as it reminds me of how wrong he is on this illegal immigrant issue.

I refuse to accept a proposal that would force my kids and grandkids to learn Spanish, not to mention the third world culture transformation that is already overwhelming American society.

But, if you "reconsider" (after having said you will never bolt), what can you possibly do? You can't vote in a more conservative republican when you are given only liberal leaning candidates. Those that run on conservative promises rarely act out their promises, while many just wholesale turn liberal.

If you listen to the "fear the alternative", what can you possibly do? Will you continue to be had? Think. If liberal republicans have nothing to fear, there will be more of them and they can act more liberal. No? This has been happening right in front of your eyes; it's plain as a pikestaff.

What will you do? Show me the way.

You're cherry-picking your disasters, just as a good liberal would.

By your logic, we should have surrended in disgrace to the Japanese and FDR should have been impeached after we lost the USS Lexington in the Battle of the Coral Sea in World War II.

Are you a troll?

I support the president in the WOT (in a big way) and I'm a unwavering conservative. While you play strategy I vote for good men who love our country. Patriotism can be expressed many ways but only courage and integrity can guarantee the success of our cause.

Misbehaving children have to be punished if there is any hope in correcting their behavior and currently the GOP has one hand in the cookie jar and the other is scribbling on the walls. Like any good parent we hate to punish our children who we love dearly.

Well right now I have to go to our granddaughter's college graduation.

Ste managed to stay a flaming conservative at a very liberal school. We must be doing something right!

Bye for now!

You might want to go back and read my post. I have talked about staying and fighting, not turning tail and running.

As for me not being a conservative, I don't think that you spend much time at this site.

"Far right" being anyone who believes in the rule of law?

These kinds of threads are virtually worthless as places for substantive discussions. They're really not much more than a FR water cooler for the DU deep-cover trolls to gather around to publish the latest malicious and deceitful DNC talking points.

Last info I remember about open or competitive seats is that there is 34 open or competitive seats in the house which 22 are held currently by Republicans meaning the Rats have a 35% chance of getting the 16 needed from current Republican seats but only 11% chance of getting those seats and maintaining all of theirs to get the majority. The seats in the Senate actually mathematically give the Rats a better chance but because of the make up of Red and Blue states it's even more unlikely the Rats can take the Senate. The highest estimate I saw on predicted Rat favor was a gain of 7-10 in the House and 0-2 in the Senate. I don't believe they'll gain more than 4-5 in the House and 1 in the Senate.

"indistinguishable from rats"

OK. We could go around in circles on this one and not get anywhere. I would imagine that your conservative principles are not too far different from mine. We disagree right now on how to move forward. If I had any easy answers that were sure to work I'd offer them, but I don't think there are any sure ways of getting there. And certainly not any easy ones. Voting for 3rd party candidates or sitting out the election will not help, in my opinion. You might as well go and vote for the Democrats.

Let's watch and see what happens should the Democrats take control of one or both of the houses. My thinking is that with Democrat majorities we will get even more spending, higher taxes, less immigration control, more health care entitlements, fewer strict constructionist judges, and (what I think is most important right now) a less serious war effort. As much as I may not like some things that are coming out of a Republican administration and Republican majorities in congress I have even less desire to see the Democrats control any branch of government.

In all seriousness, I think you will be able to distinguish between conditions now, and conditions under Democrat control.

I don't want to go to war with Iran. I just want to bomb the nuke sites and skedaddle.

Ummm.... this is an act of war.

You poor misguided soul! I would NEVER jump off the cliff for the Party, but I would do so for "OUR" NATION!
