Moved sideways into leader of the Commons. Ultra left wing Margaret Beckett to replace him.

just a hunch, but I would say 1/2 of the employees would need to be fired to be to being cleaned out. The left has that agency in its pocket. The left realized decades ago the power in the CIA and been planting seeds all along. Wilson, Plame, etc, is just the tip of the iceberg.

A Friday afternoon announcement is not indicative of a popular decision. No way the WH started cleaning house and decided that CIA was anywhere near the top of the to-do list - and during wartime!

This is what's called a quick exit under cover of the late news cycle. At this rate, he may as well recycle one of Rumsfeld's earlier resignation letters and take him up on the offer. Just get it over with. I can't fathom firing the CIA director during wartime, AND WITHOUT A REPLACEMENT.

He's leaving by his own decision. I can't speculate to what specifically happened, but I think Krystol's may have it right.

Tell it to Bill Kristol and Bob Barr.

Would you find it less EVIL if I said started by saying "So-and-so talking head is speculating that..."? Or do you consider it EVIL to post things people are saying (GASP!) on television?

It wasn't about sex with Clinton, either.

You're right, that was about lying.

Exactly. I've been thinking the same thing (great minds, you know......). Too many are guessing (it's fun, we all love to do it) but it may well be that the change is proceeding according to a well-ordered plan, and that Pres. Bush will announce his new nominee soon, in a time and manner of his own choosing. Still, the usual pattern, I think, is to announce a hand-off with a new nominee present, with the Pres. between the departing official and the new (nominated) official. But I can think of several reasons they might not choose to do that, even if they had had time to work this through.......

My company blocked FNC on our t.vs here at work. I am stuck with MSNBC and CNN. CNN does not seem to care much. Tim Russett is about to come on.... we will see if Tim has his chalk board with him. He is suppose to have NEWS for us.

Hookergate IS the reason. He's resigning effective immediately _______________________________________

If Goss brought on the #3 guy, who is now involved in the hooker scandal, he woulds probably resign out of shame, not necessarily out of guilt. I can see what you're saying.

It's already been checked out that Porter Goss did not attend the poker/prostitute parties at the Watergate, so I don't think Hookergate is the reason. And if he's resigning because he brought on the #3 guy who is involved in hookergate, that's the lamest reason I've ever heard for resigning (or getting asked to resign). Something else is going on here and we just need to wait for the leaks to start gushing and try to figure out which ones are true.

I am hoping it is THIS and not the prostitutes!

Could be. People who have jumped on Director Goss' resignation and thrown wild insinuations around are despicable.

March 3, 2006 — - A stunning investigation of bribery and corruption in Congress has spread to the CIA, ABC News has learned.

The CIA inspector general has opened an investigation into the spy agency's executive director, Kyle "Dusty" Foggo, and his connections to two defense contractors accused of bribing a member of Congress and Pentagon officials.

The CIA released an official statement on the matter to ABC News, saying: "It is standard practice for CIA's Office of Inspector General -- an aggressive, independent watchdog -- to look into assertions that mention agency officers. That should in no way be seen as lending credibility to any allegation.

"Mr. Foggo has overseen many contracts in his decades of public service. He reaffirms that they were properly awarded and administered."

The CIA said Foggo, the No. 3 official at the CIA, would have no further comment. He will remain in his post at the CIA during the investigation, according to officials.

Two former CIA officials told ABC News that Foggo oversaw contracts involving at least one of the companies accused of paying bribes to Congressman Randall "Duke" Cunningham. The story was first reported by Newsweek magazine.

Friendship With Defense Contractor

The California Republican has pleaded guilty after admitting he accepted $2.4 million in bribes in exchange for arranging defense contracts. He was sentenced today to eight years and four months in prison for corruption. Federal law enforcement officials said Cunningham is cooperating and the investigation is continuing.

As executive director of the CIA, Foggo oversees the administration of the giant spy agency. He was appointed to the post by CIA Director Porter Goss after working as a midlevel procurement supervisor, according to former CIA officials.
