Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean told a forum of journalists and minority leaders Monday that Republicans are ``not very friendly to different kinds of people, they are a pretty monolithic party ... it's pretty much a white, Christian party.''

Asked about it on Fox TV, GOP Party Chairman Ken Mehlman joked that ``a lot of folks who attended my bar mitzvah would be surprised'' to hear he heads a Christian party.

It might also come as a surprise to Colin Powell, Condi Rice, Attorney General Gonzales, Sen. Mel Martinez and Gov. Jeb Bush's wife, Columba, who is also Latin-American. And for you history buffs, Republican Edward Brooke of Massachusetts was the first African-American ever elected to the U.S. Senate by popular vote (1967).

Sure, Howard, really making Jews feel comfortable. Like all your other presidential primary candidates showing such deference to Al Sharpton. Like having Sharpton as a prime-time speaker and power broker at your last national convention. And, of course, the likes of Cynthia McKinney and Jim Moran in the House, former KKKer Byrd in the Senate, and the specter of Hillary Rodham Clinton as your presidential candidate in '08.
