Walmart isn't hated because it is successful. Walmart is hated because it destroys American jobs, American companies, American communities and American wages for it's own good. WalMart is hated because it does what Republicans and Democrats in Washington are currently doing - putting money ahead of Americans and America. This story is just another attempt to whitewash the issue by painting a strawman.

Yeah, Wal-Mart destroys American jobs, American companies, American communities, and American wages. I mean, who wouldn't want to work for a mom and pop for minimum wage with no insurance?

Wal-Mart hatred is silly. You don't like Wal-Mart, shop somewhere else. Capitalism is good.

You'd have a hard time listing any companies that have not "destroyed American jobs, American companies, American communities and American wages for it's own good."

I hate to break this to you, but that's pretty much the way a market-based economy has always worked.

Yep, damn that WalMart for being successful under Capitalism! I guess we need to go Socialist so we can have a paradise like the old Soviet Union.

How can any rational person hate a company that employes millions and then blame them for destroying jobs. Every company is in business to make money and no company puts America and Americans ahead of profit, whatever that means. Here is your solution to the greedy Wal-Mart problem.

Yet despite the Evil Wal-Mart's best efforts--unemployment remains at record lows. If more companies would "destroy America" by lowering prices thereby improving the way of life of the lower-to-middle classes, then we'd be in real trouble.

Wal-mart only threatens union dominance of the grocery industry. Every other American employee and community gets lower prices. Those "American wages" are unreasonably high when the check-out girl with 3 years experience gets as much as a starting teacher or cop, just for scanning UPC labels.

I was tickled by a story from Mexico City I read on FR last week, discussing the popularity of Wal-Mart there for the low prices.

How is Wal Mart destroying American jobs and American companies? I submit to you American unions along with some bad management at companies are destroying more jobs than Wal-Mart. Look up the problems GM and Ford are having for a great example of this vs their non union, job producing Japanese counterparts that are BUILDING NEW FACTORIES in AMERICAN communities.

None the less these Wal-Mart bash threads are fun to read. The Protectionist/Buchann wing of FR is fun to spar with on this issue.

"Walmart isn't hated because it is successful."

Exactly. Success has nothing to do with it. It's the means utilized to achieve that success so many take issue with.

Your reply does exactly the same thing. Why is your "strawman" any better than his?

Nice post. I'll never step foot in a Wal-Mart. Let them make their money off of the lemmings. I refuse to line their corporate pockets.
