Rush Limbaugh Reaches Settlement with Prosecutors - Charge Will Be Dismissed In 18 Months

Rush Limbaugh's attorney has issued a statement announcing a settlement of the Florida prosecutor's investigation into alleged doctor shopping by Rush Limbaugh.

Details have been read by Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh. Basically, the charge of doctor shopping is dismissed, with some conditions.

In response to media and other inquiries, Roy Black, Rush Limbaugh's attorney, released the following statement today concerning a settlement agreement with the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office to end the investigation of Mr. Limbaugh:

"I am pleased to announce that the State Attorney's Office and Mr. Limbaugh have reached an agreement whereby a single count charge of doctor shopping filed today by the State Attorney will be dismissed in 18 months. As a primary condition of the dismissal, Mr. Limbaugh must continue to seek treatment from the doctor he has seen for the past two and one half years. This is the same doctor under whose care Mr. Limbaugh has remained free of his addiction without relapse.

"Mr. Limbaugh and I have maintained from the start that there was no doctor shopping, and we continue to hold this position. Accordingly, we filed today with the Court a plea of 'Not Guilty' to the charge filed by the State.

"As part of this agreement, Mr. Limbaugh also has agreed to make a $30,000 payment to the State of Florida to defray the public cost of the investigation. The agreement also provides that he must refrain from violating the law during this 18 months, must pay $30 per month for the cost of "supervision" and comply with other similar provisions of the agreement.

"Mr. Limbaugh had intended to remain in treatment. Thus, we believe the outcome for him personally will be much as if he had fought the charge and won."

The actions taken today are as follows:

-- The State Attorney has filed a single charge of doctor shopping with the Court. The charge is being held in abeyance under the terms of an agreement between the State and Mr. Limbaugh.

-- Mr. Limbaugh has filed a plea of "Not Guilty" with the Court.

The formal agreement between Mr. Limbaugh and the State Attorney will be filed with the Court on Monday. The terms of the agreement are substantively as follows:

-- Mr. Limbaugh will continue in treatment with the doctor he has seen for the past two and one half years.

-- After Mr. Limbaugh completes an additional 18 months of treatment, the State Attorney has agreed to drop the charge.

-- Mr. Limbaugh has agreed to make a $30,000 payment to the State of Florida to defray the public cost of the investigation.

Most men, if not all, age very nicely and in a whole lot of cases, their looks improve.

My father's appearance hasn't changed much, aside from the various types of eyeglasses he's gone through over the past 40 years or so, starting with the ever present Buddy Holly glasses in the mid 1960's.

As my grandmother (Dad's mom) said to me one time, "Your father looks like he always has, and you look like your greatgrandpa!"

Even her sister-in-law made the comment that I looked like her father.

I'm happy for Rush because it was obvious he was targeted by the lefties using their usual methods (trumping up charges, manufacturing lies and distorting facts).

Wilma Kline certainly got quiet after hitting the jackpot.

Doctor shopping is illegal? Criminy, I can think of a few people that have done this; never really cared about it one way or the other.

It's not any different, it's just deferred adjudication no matter how many people want to spin it. Rush is not guilty now because everyone is presumed not guilty before a trial and in 18 months will again be presumed not guilty because there will be no trial. The bond is called a surety bond that will be returned upon completion of the 18 months. The $30k is just basically a gift from Rush as a part of the deal from negotiations but can not be a part of civil fine because there's court to assess such a fine and a person who is not guilty is not responsible for paying fines.

It can be depending on the schedule of the drug. My guess is that these were either schedule 2 or 3 drugs, meaning you're limited to a certain number of refills per 6 months.

Rush Limbaugh and the Party of Compassion, Part II

Liberals Showing Their Compassion Again

So Rush Limbaugh was arrested Friday afternoon, if you believe the media reports. He voluntarily surrendered, a charge of doctor shopping was filed, Limbaugh paid $30,000 to the state to defray the costs of the witch-hunt against him by a Democrat prosecutor with political ambitions who was told by his superiors to bring down Limbaugh. And the charge was dropped. If this is all this pathetic DA could do for the Democrats, his political career is over.

Rush Limbaugh, America?s number-one talk show host, has been addressing his addiction to prescription painkillers given to him after a very painful operation. He has done rehab that kept him off the air for a while and he has been working with doctors, continuing his effort to beat his problem.

And how is the Party of Compassion reacting?

Here is a sample of the reaction from the "compassionate" side of the aisle:

"WOOHOO! That's a good grin right there," wrote one Democrat activist. Another commented that "I hope he does flunk his first pee test." Yet another wrote that "It's been a good week." More of the Party of Compassion: One of them commented that "I hate Limbaugh. He's evil." Yet another posted that "it's something to cheer about."

"Too Bad The F---er Didn't Chew Them Up," wrote another compassionate liberal. "He'd be 6 feet under right now." Another one demonstrated that massive love and nonjudgmentalism that liberals are so famous for by calling Rush Limbaugh a "cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey s--t!!!" Still another labelled him a "terrorist."

Yes, the love and compassion are just oozing out from every liberal pore.

An essay I posted on this site when Rush's problem first broke in October 2003 is relevant again. I will reprint it here:

Rush Limbaugh and the Party of Compassion

Liberals are revealing their true colors yet again in the happy dance they are doing over Rush Limbaugh's admission that he is addicted to prescription painkillers and his trip to rehab. With a few notable exceptions, such as liberal commentator and radio talk show host Alan Colmes of Fox News's "Hannity and Colmes," the self-proclaimed Party of Compassion is gleeful over the problem that Limbaugh is experiencing.

Liberal mean-spiritedness has shown up in many ways of late, including the scuttling of Miguel Estrada, demands to impeach President Bush for his military policy, their fervent scandal-mongering in the Joseph Wilson affair, and many other egregious examples. But because Rush Limbaugh is such a prominent and enduring spokesman for conservatism, they seem to be taking special glee in Rush's troubles.

Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.), one of the Party of Compassion's Presidential wannabes, made an insensitive joke about Limbaugh's problem in the recent Presidential debate. "There are two ways you can have lower prescription drug prices," Kerry said. "One is to hire Rush Limbaugh's maid. The other is to elect me President." Fellow radio personality Don Imus, a former cocaine addict and alcoholic, warm-heartedly called Limbaugh "a fat, pill-popping loser and an undisciplined slob." The ever-so-tolerant left-wing comedian Al Franken, who previously wrote a book attacking Limbaugh, called him "a dishonest demagogue." CNN anchor Aaron Brown boasted of "the permanent smirk that seems to be attached to my face" due to Limbaugh?s problems. Such displays of liberal compassion bring tears to my eyes.

And it is not just liberal commentators and political leaders who are throwing parties over Limbaugh's situation. Their followers are being even more cruel. At the liberal website Democratic Underground, one poster wrote, "I pray your rehab is excrutiatingly painful... and unsuccessful." Another wrote, "He doesn't deserve sympathy from any of us." Yet another wrote that Limbaugh?s problems "make me very happy." Others have written similarly tolerant messages.

If conservatives were to say these things about a prominent liberal, liberals would be rightly outraged and they would be screaming as loudly as they can that conservatives have once again been proven to be hard-hearted people with no compassion for others. Well, I would advise them to look in the mirror.

Let's suppose that something like this happened to Bill or Hillary Clinton, for example. No one has been more disgusted with the policies and the conduct of the Clintons over the years than I have. But they are still fellow children of God who deserve our prayers and our compassion, even as we work overtime to defeat them in the political arena. There are certain things that decent people don?t want to see happen even to their worst enemies. So why the celebrations in liberal America?

Rush Limbaugh has said he is not a hero and he is not a victim. He has taken personal responsibility for his problem, as he rightly should, even though it stems from a prescription for medication prescribed for post-surgical pain. Why can't the self-proclaimed Party of Compassion find any compassion in their hearts for a fellow human being in his time of suffering? Are they so blinded by ideology and power that they cannot see what they are doing?

Perhaps these liberals need to find a rehab facility where they can regain their compassion, as Rush Limbaugh is regaining his freedom from dependency.
