Just saw United 93-- I thought it was excellent. It evolves in real-time and its cuts back and forth between the Air Traffic controllers, the Military room, and the plane.
It was somewhat shocking to watch the level of confusion in terms of what was going on, but when you see what information that they were dealing with, it makes sense.
The hijackers to me came across more as fanatical than evil, and they were not turban-wearing obvious characters, they were cleaned up and I ride on planes with people like them on every flight I take.
In the movie, they are carrying out the plans of others and are obsessive in their task. We are not fighting an enemy that is likely to be reasoned with.
There is one character that I'm glad they included- he has a European *maybe French* accent and he makes a number of comments along the lines of "If we do what they say, they'll spare our lives"-- typical appeasement mentality.
Thanks to this group of heroes, many thousands of lives may have been spared and we kept the Islamic nuts from claiming the Capitol or White House as a prize.
I give in 9.5/10!
Ugh.
Please bear in mind, the above link leads straight into the belly of the beast: the September 11th forum. Abandon all hope, ye who enter there. Or at least wear SCUBA gear. The consensus seems to be that the film is propaganda, because 93 was *actually* shot down by an anti-aircraft missile.
But they liked Sunday Bloody Sunday.
I'm going tonight right after work.
I encourage everyone who possibly can to do likewise, because:
1) 10% of the gross goes to the families of the victims this weekend.
2) A higher opening weekend gross will generate good press.
3) A higher opening weekend gross will inflate the value of my HSX portfolio, where I'm holding United 93 at 49. I suspect it could be my biggest gain since The Passion of the Christ.
Have not seen it yet but saw David Beamer, Todds Father on FNC being interviewed by Cavuto. Off subject but was amazed at the resemblence to Logan on 24. I am talking facial expressions only, not to the character himself.
Medved thought it should be a PG-13. He said the violence was less than Lord of the Rings. No close-ups or anything like that. A few curse words as you mention. Medved could only think that the main reason it got an R is because the movie is so intense. I'll try to see it next weekend.
I'm going to take him, if he wants to see it- I think it's something he needs to understand - exactly what happened that day.
Rob what was the reaction to those viewing it with you?
sounds like it should be shown in high school history classes .
P.S...... I puts things very clearly in perspective.
Really? That's interesting... I'll pass that onto FReepers on my ping lists...
5:00 e.s.t. here.lol..
SEE IT (United 93) THIS WEEKEND BECAUSE 10% of the GROSS REVENUE WILL GO TO THE MEMORIAL FUND, as per Neil Cavuto's show with Todd Beamer's father, David Beamer and US Rep. Shuster, (R) PA.
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my miscellaneous ping list.

There were several teens there escorted by a parent...I bet they were home schoolers. If it was not for the subject/material covered, it should of been rated PG.
