If Democrats win back the Congress in the 2006 midterm elections, they could make President Bush's last two years in office so miserable it would be impossible for any Republican to win the 2008 presidential election - thus ensuring that Hillary Clinton becomes president.
So says Dick Morris, the only political strategist to engineer a successful presidential reelection campaign for Democrats since the days of FDR.
If the GOP doesn't reconnect with the American people on key issues like border enforcement, "they will lose the House and they will lose the Senate," Morris told ABC Radio's Sean Hannity on Thursday.
He warns: "The Democrats will use that control to so harass Bush, with investigations, censures, subpoenas and maybe even impeachment, you may find that in 2008 the Republican Party doesn't have a chance."
With Mrs. Clinton using her fundraising juggernaut to sew up the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination, Morris' prediction means that the former first lady would become president by default. The former Clinton strategist says Capitol Hill Republicans have one last chance to save themselves and rescue the nation from a 2008 presidential debacle.
"The next hundred days when those guys are in session is their last opportunity to control the elections of '06 and '08," said Morris
Yep. Now prepare for the endless posts from "REAL Conservatives" who want to "teach a lesson" to the President who gave them tax cuts, a War on Terror, a right-leaning SCOTUS, and in FACT cut immigration 24%.
Even the Dems are not stupid enough to try to make Hillary President by impeaching Bush in 2007 or 2008.
Frankly, I don't think they are stupid enough to try to impeach Bush at all. If they did, it would only hurt their chances in 2008.
Of course, it is conceivable that if they had control of the Congress in 2008, they might impeach Bush AFTER the 2008 election.
He may have cut legal immigration but there's no way you can say he's cut illegal immigration 24%. They're coming by the truckload every day.
I think Morris is losing it.
Besides, he forgot his own history, when Clinton was able to blame "obstructionist" Republicans in Congress for a government shut down, and so effectively painted them as responsible for all the gridlock, that he was able to win the presidency a second time.
Sure you can--you can always say, "Well...it could be worse!"
</bitter sarcasm>
I saw Bill Crystal make the opposite argument. A Republican House would make it difficult for the Republicans to retain the White House!?! Sometimes these guys over-analyze a bit much.

Yeah right. He wants to give amnesty to 12 million illegal aliens...that will surely reduce illegal immigration. And regarding the WOT, yes he has done well overseas but here at home has left the border wide open for terrorists to waltz in....and worse...he has no intention of genuinely securing the borders..ever!
So we get a slow leftward spiral with the GOP, and a fast leftward spiral with the Dems....
I think the Toesucker is smoking something again...
And it only took four posts for it to begin.
why do these idiots get paid so much.
any guy-in-the-street dumb@ss could told you that!
DUH Morris!!!!!!
Yes, there is:
The number of migrants coming to the United States each year, legally and illegally, grew very rapidly starting in the mid-1990s, hit a peak at the end of the decade, and then declined substantially after 2001. By 2004, the annual inflow of foreign-born persons was down 24% from its all-time high in 2000, according to the Pew Hispanic Center analysis of multiple datasets collected by the Census Bureau and other government agencies

I've got evidence; just saying "they're coming by the truckload every day" isn't evidence.
I'm not denying the problem, and I support "wall and haul"; but the facts are the facts, and those Republicans who are doing the MSM's work for them will have themselves to blame when they help put the Dems in office.
I'm a Republican, I don't know about the rest of you, so I'm keeping the Dems OUT.
little Dickie Morose is right less often than a broken clock.
See my previous post with the PEW research evidence of the reality, as opposed to the MSM hysteria.
The MSM saw how easily Republican nervous Nellies were duped with the Dubai ports deal; they're fooling the same Nellies again, with immigration this time.
And regarding the WOT, yes he has done well overseas but here at home has left the border wide open for terrorists to waltz in....and worse...he has no intention of genuinely securing the borders..ever!
That must explain all those terrorist attacks here since 9-11...because he's doing such a bad job.
So we get a slow leftward spiral with the GOP, and a fast leftward spiral with the Dems....
Only if easily-duped Republicans refuse to actually do research and instead only look for facts which support their emotions.
But by your logic we should put the Dems in because we want the Dems to quickly gain control and do all these horrible things...?
Uh, ok, that makes sense, in Bizarroworld, I guess.
And it only took me two posts to say everything one needs to in response to the opposition. The rest can be answered with dittos.
Only if they they close the borders and abolish all consideration of amnesty for illegal aliens.
Yep, I admit it. I "punished" the GOP all to hell sixteen years ago. I was so fed up by how My Party had performed, I had the [STUPID] idea that I could somehow "send a message" by voting for a third party.
So, will the "real Conservatives" please close rank and join in, and prevent the rise of Clinton II? Please, learn from my mistake.
How accurate can these stats be when we are talking about undocumented people. No one in this government knows exactly how many are here. The only thing we know for sure is that promises of "earned citizenship" will only swell the numbers. This guest worker proposal is nonsense. On the one hand we say it's logistically impossible to send them home. Then we say if you haven't been here for at least five years we'll send you back home.
