WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush will direct the U.S. Energy Department on Tuesday to temporarily halt deliveries of oil to a strategic reserve in order to get more fuel on the market and help reduce rising gasoline prices, a senior administration official said.
The official said Bush in a morning energy speech, will tell the Energy Department to suspend deliveries this summer while supplies are tight "and defer the deposits until the fall, and then you have more oil on the market."

If the bubble bursts, and the market stabilizes, nobody will be.
The healthcare industry operates on about 15%. Are they raping the consumer?
The drug industry operates on about a 20% profit margin. Are they raping the consumer?
Want more examples? The only raping being done is being done by the government--who makes 20%,,,YES, 20% on each gallon of gas sold. GEEEZ Now THAT is raping!
Sounds good to me!
Most of us prefer the markets, but the oil market is manipulated by everyone in the world. We have to be able to fight back.
It has before (1982, 1986, 1999), and that is how we got into this mess. Every time the price collapses, the industry gets downsized.
In 1980, there were 4500 drilling rigs worldwide, now about half that. The others were cut up for scrap from about '86 to '92.
If the price is low, no refineries get built. Too low, and no one is drilling exploration wells, the ones which find new reserves.
It might seem cheaper at the time, but it just means there is another boom down the road.
If you want sustainable alternate fuels development, alternate technologies, even the development of our own production and refining capacity to the extent that we are self-sufficient, it is not going to happen because oil is dirt cheap.
You have to have the economic incentive or the situation will not change, and the cycle will repeat itself.
That number is off refined gasoline. Same for the guvmint number. I am not privy to the price of refining. Perhaps some fellow FReeper could enlighten us more on that.
"I wish the oil bubble would burst like the dot com bubble did."
Most experts say it will. And I hope it doesn't happen with a Rat in office because they will be able to say they stood up to the evil oil companies when the price of gas falls to around $1.50 per gallon. Even if they had zero to do with it. But the Sheeple will but into it.
People think they are entiled to cheap oil because they have made their plans based on its availability. I have always found it ironical that the people of the northeast resent Big Oil and the Sheiks so much. It ws their politicians who drove the depreciation allowance down. Yet it was they who tapped into the Big Inch and later into oil imports in order to clean up their air. People forget that in, say, 1930 the air in New York and Washington was so dirty in the winter from coal smoke that one could hardly see. A friend of mine who worked in a senator's office in 1960 had to quit because allergy to coal smoke. Yeah, they want the benefit and then complain.
The President doesn't have a magic wand. And he doesn't make the laws.
This won't help because the DemoCraps and their environmental nutcase friends haven't sotpped inventing environmental friendly blends.
We suffer from the mythology of the environmental folks.
THEY need to act on what HE has told them needs to be done.
He has taken the lead, but he's not a dictator. Is that what you want?
Or at least drop all federal taxes on tractor trailers including fuel taxes. Paying at the pumps for our fuel will be a fraction of what we are going to pay at the stores if he doesn't. Transportation cost for all goods will go down if this tax is rescinded. That means lower grocery prices etc. People can limit driving somewhat to cut their own cost but people gotta eat.
dis i say only for a day? i meant for 20 minutes
Oh, I think there is enough blame to go around. LOL
As I have repeatedly stated, while America has been sitting on it's collective hands; France has gone nuclear and Brazil has gone ethanol. The job of the POTUS is to LEAD!
And for a guy who grew up in the oil patch, this man has failed miserably to LEAD us off of the foreign oil addiction.
Funny, in any other industry, that's called "market research", and it is usually done to undercut the competition by only a penny or two, or establish loss leaders or 'specials'.
More Bush bashing or is today a blame Bush day?
