We have Mary Mcarthy who was appointed by Clinton
We have Sandy Berger who was appointed by Clinton
We have the real Joe Wilson, who was appointed to some African nation and then Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for African Affairs at the National Security Council by Clinton
We have Valerie Plame Joe Wilson's wife, who joined the CIA while Clinton was president
and we have Dana Priestly who got her information from the aforesaid Mary Mcarthy,
and we have William Goodfellow, husband of Dana Priestly who gets Joe Wilson speaking engagements.

This is an egregious crime. It was operational, not just classified info. She put lives in danger, c**t. She disclosed top secret information. Jail time is too kind. Think about it.

The latest fired CIA employee is Mary McCarthy, (one of many to come, I understand, apparently the Department of Justice said they have DOZENS of leak investigations ongoing);

Until July 2001, she served as special assistant to the president and senior director for intelligence programs on the National Security Council (NSC) Staff, under both Presidents Clinton and Bush. More here hat tip x-dhimmi

Wilsongate: Motive, Means, and Opportunity

From my files:

Wilson (as Ambassador to Gabon) had/has connections to the Gabon Chief of State, Omar Bongo, who was the chief African ally of the French oil company TotalFinaElf, a major beneficiary of the Oil-for-Food bribes. Prior to the Iraq War, they had a contract with Saddam's regime worth an estimated 12.5 to 27.0 billion barrels of oil reserves. Also he had connections via the Middle East Institute and Rock Creek, both of which are Saudi controlled.

Wilson's wife Jacqueline was also apparently a lobbyist for Bongo and it seems Wilson was pretty chummy with Saddam's weapons buyer, having dinner with him on the eve that Kuwait was invaded in 1990. She is now an advisor to Bongo, her picture from a 2005 conference can be found here That makes it very clear that there are connections to oil-for-food. No wonder Wilson can afford his lifestyle.

Who is Mary McCarthy? [The Great One, Mark Levin, weighs in...]--Well, as of this morning (Saturday) most of the drive-by media don't care. They're fixated with the weather and gas prices — and anything else that will divert the public's attention from the stunning revelation that a Sandy Berger crony has apparently been leaking top-secret information from her high post at the CIA.

The blogs are all over it. See Ace of Spades HQ and follow the links. The bloggers are reporting that the WaPo is carrying a story in Sunday's edition indicating that the investigation by the FBI is widespread, and that Rockefeller and Durbin and their staffs will be asked to take polygraphs, and that reporters who published the leaks may be subject to prosecution.

Mary McCarthy Identified As CIA Leaker

The identity of the CIA leaker fired for passing classified information to Washington Post writer Dana Priest has been revealed.

The officer flunked a polygraph exam before being fired on Thursday and is now under investigation by the Justice Department, NBC has learned.

Intelligence sources tell NBC News the accused officer, Mary McCarthy, worked in the CIA's inspector general's office and had worked for the National Security Council under the Clinton and and George W. Bush administrations.

The leak pertained to stories on the CIA’s rumored secret prisons in Eastern Europe, sources told NBC. The information was allegedly provided to Dana Priest of the Washington Post, who wrote about CIA prisons in November and was awarded a Pulitzer Prize on Monday for her reporting.

Sources said the CIA believes McCarthy had more than a dozen unauthorized contacts with Priest. Information about subjects other than the prisons may have been leaked as well.

The sleuthing has begun ;

The report of the 9/11 Commission notes that the National Security staff reviewed the intelligence in April 2000 and concluded that the CIA's assessment of its intelligence on bin Laden and al-Shifa had been valid; the memo to Clinton on this was cosigned by Richard Clarke and Mary McCarthy, the NSC senior director for intelligence programs, who opposed the bombing of al-Shifa in 1998

If you scroll down to footnote #4 you will see William Goodfellow as one of the signers of this petition. The petition (must reading anyway) is an effort to persuade the administration NOT to use the military to go after bin Laden. This was in SEPTEMBER, 2001, within days of the terrorist attacks.

It's infuriating to read- but informative now to realize Goodfellow (husband of Dana Priest for those of you in Rio Linda) put himself squarely against not just Iraq, but Afghanistan as well.

"She was not some minor flunky. She was a major officer at the CIA, holding a very high position in the National Intelligence Council, and all the while a strong political partisan.

She was one of the top apparatchik in the CIA's liberal-wing's war against the Bush Administration.

When Bush was warned away from divulging any information that would support the case for war in Iraq, this little partisan bitch was one of the people warning him he couldn't say anything in his own defense. And when he would give a CIA-approved narrow statement about Iraq, it was nasty little partisan hacks like her immediately leaking to the press that everything the President just said was a lie.

Except it wasn't a lie. It was the CIA consensus position on an issue. It's just that Kerry-supportin' Mary disagreed with it.

And why did the 9/11 Commission, despite powerful evidence, conclude with the fudged-up language that there was no "operational" partnership between Saddam and Al Qaeda? Because high CIA officials like McCarthy told the Democratic staffers she had their back and would leak like a sieve against any conclusion that allowed for some degree of cooperation between the two.

This is pretty big. The liberal cabal in the CIA just lost one of its top guns for subverting the government that nominally is in charge of it.

This, by the way, was a bit of a tip-off that she didn't really accept the whole "secret" part of the CIA's mission. From her 9/11 testimony:

The Congress, too, has a role in warning. Unlike other functions of democratic government, the conduct of intelligence is purposely-and with the consent of the public-carried out in secret, out of the view of public and without much public debate. Instead, Americans rely on their representatives in Congress to ensure that the intelligence function is performed, not only in a way that keeps us safe, but also in a way that is consistent with our democratic values.

Thus, the intelligence oversight committees have a heavy burden. Unlike other committees which regularly receive citizen input, and are assisted by the scrutiny of the public over "what the government is up to," the intelligence committees must depend on small staffs and input from the very agencies they are charged with overseeing.

And when Congress isn't holding Bush to account the way Mary McCarthy would like, she runs to the Washington Post to give the liberals in Congress the cover they need to go after him.

Dick Durbin wants to take on Bush over the prisons issues? Well, he can't, of course, at least not publicly. It's secret information, so Dick Durbin can't reveal it. He can argue about it behind closed doors, but what good does that do the liberals politically?

And so Mary McCarthy outs the information so that the Democrats can score their points without fear of being branded national-security leakers.

The game's up. You are now quite plainly out of your reckoning."

"Cabal" is not too strong a word to describe this. Going back to the days of Nixon, if not before, we have a situation in which government bureaucrats who oppose the policies of Republican administrations work hand-in-glove with the news media to subvert the policies of our elected officials. They brought down Nixon and tried to bring down Reagan and Bush. We saw this element at work in the Plame affair, and now again in the secret prison story. More and more, the national press corps acts as if it thinks it is entitled to be dictating the course of government. When a president like Bush disregards their wisdom, they are enraged, and do whatever they can to take him down.

One final note on George W. Bush’s management style and his Harvard Business School background does not derive from the classroom, per se. One feature of life there is that a subculture of poker players exists. Poker is a natural fit with the inclinations, talents, and skills of many future entrepreneurs. A close reading of the odds, combined with the ability to out-psych the opposition, leads to capital accumulation in many fields, aside from the poker table.

By reputation, the President was a very avid and skillful poker player when he was an MBA student. One of the secrets of a successful poker player is to encourage your opponent to bet a lot of chips on a losing hand. This is a pattern of behavior one sees repeatedly in George W. Bush’s political career.

He is not one to loudly proclaim his strengths at the beginning of a campaign. Instead, he bides his time, does not respond forcefully, at least at first, to critiques from his enemies, no matter how loud and annoying they get. If anything, this apparent passivity only goads them into making their case more emphatically.

April 24, 2006 - A former CIA officer who was sacked last week after allegedly confessing to leaking secrets has denied she was the source of a controversial Washington Post story about alleged CIA secret detention operations in Eastern Europe, a friend of the operative told NEWSWEEK.

The fired official, Mary O. McCarthy, “categorically denies being the source of the leak,” one of McCarthy’s friends and former colleagues, Rand Beers, said Monday after speaking to McCarthy. Beers said he could not elaborate on this denial and McCarthy herself did not respond to a request for comment left by NEWSWEEK on her home answering machine. A national security advisor to Democratic Party candidate John Kerry during the 2004 presidential campaign, Beers worked as the head of intelligence programs on President Bill Clinton’s National Security Council staff and later served as a top deputy on counter-terrorism for President Bush in 2002 and 2003. McCarthy, a career CIA analyst, initially worked as a deputy to Beers on the NSC and later took over Beer’s role as the Clinton NSC’s top intelligence expert.

CIA spokesman Paul Gimigliano re-affirmed on Monday that an agency official had been fired after acknowledging “unauthorized contacts with the media and discussion of classified information” with journalists. Gimigliano and other administration spokespersons said they were prohibited by law from disclosing the identity of the person who was fired. But government officials familiar with the matter confirmed to NEWSWEEK that McCarthy, a 20-year veteran of the CIA’s intelligence—or analytical— branch, was the individual in question.

The officials, who asked for anonymity because they were discussing sensitive information, said that McCarthy had been fired after allegedly confessing during the course of a leak investigation based heavily on polygraph examinations that she had engaged in unauthorized contacts with more than one journalist regarding more than one news story. The only journalist so far identified by government sources as one of the unauthorized persons with whom McCarthy admitted contact is Washington Post reporter Dana Priest, who last week won a Pulitzer Prize for revealing details of a secret airline and prison network that the CIA operates to detain and interrogate high-level Al Qaeda suspects.

Priest’s most contentious story, published by the Post last November, alleged that the CIA had been “hiding and interrogating some of its most important Al Qaeda captives at a Soviet-era compound in Eastern Europe.” Even though the Post said it decided, in response to administration appeals, not to identify the Eastern European countries involved in secret CIA detention operations, intelligence officials said at the time that the story caused potentially serious damage to agency activities. The officials said the CIA would filing a “crime report” with the Justice Department regarding possible leaks of classified information. (Eric C. Grant, public affairs director of the Washington Post, says none of the paper’s reporters has been subpoenaed or talked to investigators in connection with this matter.)
