Who is Mary McCarthy?
Well, as of this morning (Saturday) most of the big media don't care. They're fixated with the weather and gas prices and anything else that will divert the public's attention from the stunning revelation that a Sandy Berger crony has apparently been leaking top-secret information from her high post at the CIA. The media will continue to downplay this story as they cover-up their own role in exposing our nation's secrets, including the supposed existence of CIA prisons in Europe. She'll be called a "whistleblower" and praised as some kind of patriot (a patriot, in the eyes of the media, is anybody who undermines this administration and the war effort by leaking national security secrets to them). They will downplay that McCarthy was a Clintonoid who somehow managed to land a top post at the CIA, ultimately winding up in the CIA's Inspector General's Office, from where she could monitor CIA internal investigations of, well, leaks, among other things.
The news spin, to the extent attention is being paid to this by the big media outlets, is that McCarthy's firing is unprecedented! Or it's Bush's fault! In one of the most absurd comments by any newsman anywhere, Newsbusters.org notes that Bob Schieffer of CBS Evening News asserted that it is no secret that the current administration does not like its people hanging out with news reporters without permission and he described the firing as a first a dubious first, to be sure. Here. Is this guy for real?
If she leaked she must be charged. I wonder what Schieffer would say then? I suppose he would urge that she receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. After all, the Washington Post's Dana Priest, who apparently served as McCarthy's stenographer, was just awarded the Pulitzer Prize.
I must say, however, that the media's sickening hypocrisy knows no bounds. They came to the defense of Joe Wilson and his wife, Valerie Plame, who worked behind-the-scenes to get her husband that fact-finding trip to Niger. They demanded an investigation into who leaked Plames identity to Bob Novak which ensnared their own reporters. They hoped they would critically wound the president, and they failed. Clearly Plame was not undercover and the revelation of her identity was not a crime. Lewis Libby now stands accused of lying about a crime that never occurred and the media think thats a good thing.
Now comes Mary McCarthy, who apparently leaked real classified national-security secrets and the media largely dismiss it or defend it. They have no curiosity about McCarthy, the extent of her leaks, to whom she leaked (beyond Priest, did she leak to other reporters, members of Congress, other governments?), how she secured top security posts, and her ties to the Clinton administration. Surely there is every reason the government should pursue this investigation at least as vigorously as the Plame matter has been pursued. Dana Priest, among others, should have her day before a grand jury.
And watch the congressional Democrats follow the medias lead. Long ago they put party and power above victory in this war. McCarthys ties to Clinton threaten to take attention from their unrelenting attack on the Bush administration and their claims of incompetence in the management of the war, which they see as their ticket to majority status in 2006.
Putting that aside, the discovery of McCarthy does make you wonder how many more of her ilk have squirreled themselves into the bureaucracy, from where they seek to undermine the country.
Dond't forget the McCain Feingold Campaign Finance garbage and jumpin' Jeffords. W didn't have control of the Senate for most of his first two years in office.
He really did think that he could bring a new tone to Washington. The friendly relations between the parties only happened when the Repubs were happy to go along with the majority, never the other way.
W could not sweep out civil servants and Clinton made sure that many of his political appointees were changed to that status before he left office. Whenever the agenda media says that "administration officials say"...something negative, think State Department, not White House. Since the agenda media is in the propaganda business, not the news business, they never mention that clarifying fact.
Simple, 1st check the political contributions of the employees.
Any that gave to Kerry, Clinton or Kennedy or ilk moves to the top of the LIE Detector list.
Watch 'em drop like flies!
Johnson is also one of those treasonous Veterans for Peace bunch. Only reasonable to assume he'd continue the lie and defend her.
....They have no curiosity about McCarthy, the extent of her leaks, to whom she leaked.....The lack of curosity stems from fear. They see the impending doom and need a few days to learn how to react.
Will it be our ass or the DNC's ass........That is their delimma.
The DNC will loose as the suits take control of the newsies.
And it's so delicious that her name is "McCarthy." ha!
How DID she wind up in the CIA's IG office?
Exactly. Let's see the blogsphere spring into action now and grow this story some huge legs.
Agreed. And popcorn, please.
Since when is someone who flunks a polygraph and admits to lying on a matter that (a) is a element of a crime and (2) impacts national security --- a "sacrificial lamb"?
What a bunch of hooey.
Ah, what leaps of faith, what excuses for the Bushies not cleaning houses in 2001. Who here remembers that their favourite president denied at the time that there was any vandalism by the departing Klintonites. There are about 3,000 political appointments available to any administration. Whether or not the McCarthy woman was one of them we don't know, but if she was, one of the couple of dozen or a few dozen that the President himself makes should have cleaned house. He didn't! The hugs and appointments the Toonites have received from this administration and the Bush family, and the slap on the wrist that Sandy Burglar received, speak for themselves. Barbara Bush's adopted son indeed! Payback from scumbags!
I'm betting this won't even get a mention on the Sunday morning gab fests....
Ahah! Like I said - here come the Bush critics salivating that they can assume their pompous, better, smarter than the President of the United States attitude to make all here understand that they, not the President of the United States, but they are the true determiners of "how to run the United States" from their armchair without having to do a lick of work.
Yes, we are impressed. Oh, great one, just what must the President do now - we wait with bated breath.
Mr. Levin makes two great points here. Why would anyone get an award for "journalism" when all they did was to "take dictation" from a perfectly willing source? It isn't like Priest had to dodge shot and shell to get the information. Hell, she didn't even have to hide in the parking garage to meet with "Deep Throat". So the award, in a real sense, was either intended for McCarthy, to show her how appreciated, loved and (if need be) protected she was. The same would apply to Priest, of course, in the sense that if she got tossed in the pokey along with McCarthy, she would have (in addition to an all expense paid legal "dream team") the protection of the "Pulitzer Prize Winner" moniker.
I might add ............ I generally watch movies for their excellent dialogue. Thusly I see a lot of older movies.
"Lion in Winter" (1968) with Katharine Hepburn, Peter O'Toole, and Anthony Hopkins comes to mind. That was great.
"Putting that aside, the discovery of McCarthy does make you wonder how many more of her ilk have squirreled themselves into the bureaucracy, from where they seek to undermine the country." Well Mark, ask Durbin and Rockefeller 'cause I'm certain they could name at least a dozen contacts for their leaking sedition.
bttt
Frankly, I am done with you.
It's pretty obvious you can't comprehend the differences betwee '93 and '01.
