Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, a leading advocate of stricter gun control, said yesterday that there was nothing wrong with owning a gun for hunting. In fact, he said he even had one himself as a teenager.
Mr. Bloomberg told listeners on his weekly radio program on WABC-AM that he participated in riflery at a Boy Scout camp, and that his parents later allowed him to own a rifle while he was growing up in Medford, Mass.
"When I was 15 or so, I had a .22-caliber rifle, but I used it only at a range, and you know there's nothing wrong with that," the mayor said. "Part of my hearing's gone because of it."
Mr. Bloomberg is scheduled to meet with more than a dozen mayors from across the country at Gracie Mansion on Tuesday to discuss ways to stop illegal gun trafficking and reduce gun violence. Mr. Bloomberg has made combating illegal guns a priority in his second term in office.
The mayor said yesterday that he had no problem with people who own guns legally and use them for recreation.
"Believe this or not, I am a defender of the Second Amendment," Mr. Bloomberg said. "I see nothing wrong with people having guns. But that doesn't mean you can have a gun everyplace. And concealed weapons or even weapons out in the open in big cities, in city streets, does not make a lot of sense to me."
The mayor added that people with children in their homes should not keep guns. "That's like waving a red flag in front of a kid," Mr. Bloomberg said. "Guns are very dangerous things, and the big problem we have is there's an enormous number of guns in the hands of criminals sold illegally."

Megalomaniacs are always dangerous but when they start stomping on Constitutional Rights they can produce fatal results.

Good afternoon.
""Part of my hearing's gone because of it."
What a crock. Bloomie should try 105 rounds impacting within 50 feet, or five M-16s and an M60 blasting away a few feet away from each other.

I'd like to reveal guns in my childhood past, my present and my future.
I learned to use firearms safely from my father. My father who kept a variety of rifles and shotguns in the living room closet. I'm doing the same with my children. My children know I carry a handgun with me nearly everywhere that I go.
Thanks for reminding me why I have avoided a visit to New York City for my entire life Mayor Bloomers.

Talk about your old, tired, Marxist lies. Assuring that a banner will never come after hunting guns is probably the oldest, most dishonest trick in their bag. Sadly, many hunters buy the lie.

I predicted
here that Bloomie would trip over himself running away from this once the queers and the ACLU started screeching about his involvement with the Scouts. It sure didn't take long for them to start whining to their Old Gray mouthpiece and get them to start the assault.
I think I already hear Bloomie lacing up his Nikes.
