New York Is Losing People at Fastest Pace in America
New York Sun ^ | April 20, 2006 | DANIELA GERSON

New York State is losing more residents than any other state in the country, according to U.S. Census Bureau statistics released early today.

Based on surveys taken between 2000 and 2004, the figures show that New York replaced California as the net migration outflow leader, with an average of 182,886 people leaving a year, nearly double California's average for the same period.

California led the nation between 1990 and 2000.

The findings track the state-to-state movement in America.

They do not include international immigration numbers.

The New York City metropolitan region - which includes Long Island and parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania - also leads the country in migration outflow, with an average of 211,014 leaving a year.

The number is higher than the state figure because many of those leaving the metropolitan region resettle in other areas of New York.

Despite the tremendous outflow, the overall city population, at 8.2 million, is growing due to increases in international immigration and a birthrate that is greater than the death rate.

"There are three reasons people are leaving: taxes, taxes, and taxes," a Republican candidate for governor, John Faso, said.

His recommended solution: "Cut taxes, reduce spending, put the state budget on a diet."

Another Republican candidate, William Weld, also stressed the need to cut taxes.

"For New York to retain its young people and talented work force, it must corral and bridle New York's government spending, cut taxes, and reduce imposed business costs such as health care and worker's compensation,"...

These are simple changes that will provide the key to keeping our seed corn: good jobs at good wages."

NY Republicans are welcome here in PA as long as they remember that, except for Philly, our state is very, very, red (and would be if we can con NJ into taking the city off our hands). You don't have to "play RINO" here, and we'll be happy to help you break the habit (hmmm...sounds like a 12-step anti-smoking program). One thing is for sure: our state is a tax haven by comparison, and let's keep it that way.

Less crowded trains. Lower house prices. Great news!

Oh, there are still plenty of people there, it's just that so many are "undocumented".

That way, they're harder to tax.

I long for a slice of NY pizza. My next door neighbor is from Chicago. There is a major feud going on here as to who has the best pizza. She thinks that Pizza Hut qualifies as NY pizza. She has never tried Umberto's of New Hyde Park or Tony's of Medford. Chicago pizza? Ha!

And I swear they are all moving to FL! It's estimated that 1000 people per day move here.

"Chicago pizza? Ha!"

Well, if one is sufficiently starved or sufficiently stoned, Chicago "pizza" can pass for pizza. However, the worst of the worst when it comes to pizza is California Pizza Kitchen, where the only thing their "pizza" has in common with the real thing (i.e., NY pizza) is the name.

Can you blame them? Their taxes are the highest in the country, crime is rampant and all the Democratically controlled cities are illegal alien sanctuary cities. Crime is up no matter what the politicos say. The politicians have taken away the rights of the individual to protect themselves and the felons are having a field day because the politicians have decriminalized many violent crimes.

By the time they get to Florida they are so disillusioned that they no longer vote at all.

I was born and raised there...now live in Texas since 1983...most of my family still lives there....real estate and taxes there are choking off residents.....quality of life has gone down too....a lot of the 'immigrants' seem to trash up the communities....and those suckers just vote democrat....tax you into oblivion....LIBERALS SUCK...they the libs ruined Long Island and NYC.

Sounds like bagels in Florida. The only thing they have in common with NY bagels is the hole.

The NYers come down to FL for the low taxes. Then they get upset we have less programs and services, and proceed to vote in higher taxes.

It's maddening.

The political, media, and business elites along with the race pimps for whom the present system is empowering would respond "middle class, we don't need no stinkin' middle class".

See what happens when one puts Hillary in office? People leaving in droves. She must be so proud. She'll just have to have another tax increase to help fund the shortfall...

To paraphrase Margaret Thatcher, the New York dem/socialist party is soon going to run out of people to tax.

Yes indeed! That's one of my favorite Thatcher quotes, nicely paraphrased.

The question is: when will business start to decentralize? In this day and time, why cluster in one city?

Liar, Democrats promise only to raise taxes on the rich and they keep that promise. The problem is they think every one who is one step above starvation is "Rich".

Hmmmm... Would this mean if Hillary! was elected in 2008, 50 times that many would flee the U.S.A.?
