New York State is losing more residents than any other state in the country, according to U.S. Census Bureau statistics released early today.
Based on surveys taken between 2000 and 2004, the figures show that New York replaced California as the net migration outflow leader, with an average of 182,886 people leaving a year, nearly double California's average for the same period.
California led the nation between 1990 and 2000.
The findings track the state-to-state movement in America.
They do not include international immigration numbers.
The New York City metropolitan region - which includes Long Island and parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania - also leads the country in migration outflow, with an average of 211,014 leaving a year.
The number is higher than the state figure because many of those leaving the metropolitan region resettle in other areas of New York.
Despite the tremendous outflow, the overall city population, at 8.2 million, is growing due to increases in international immigration and a birthrate that is greater than the death rate.
"There are three reasons people are leaving: taxes, taxes, and taxes," a Republican candidate for governor, John Faso, said.
His recommended solution: "Cut taxes, reduce spending, put the state budget on a diet."
Another Republican candidate, William Weld, also stressed the need to cut taxes.
"For New York to retain its young people and talented work force, it must corral and bridle New York's government spending, cut taxes, and reduce imposed business costs such as health care and worker's compensation,"...
These are simple changes that will provide the key to keeping our seed corn: good jobs at good wages."

We left in 1986 and not only did not look back, but felt nothing but pity for those that stayed. To understand what is happening in NY, all you have to do is visit Albany, that center of liberal stupidity and mega-corruption. Then take a drive around up-State NY cities and see the disaster that high taxes and socialist government at every level has done to wreck industry, commerce and the spirit of the survivors. And then there are the two RAT senators who work diligently at ruining the State and the Nation. Hitlery is the worst but the TV personality, Schumer, is a close second. Both are the reasons that no one with an ounce of brains could ever be a RAT or vote for them.
:)
"Yes and no. More to the point, is that New Yorkers are sick of the routine corruption of state and local politics. NY at every level is run strictly for the politicians, their families and their friends. Republican or Democrat, makes no difference. People are moving out, because they can see how futile it is to expect any honesty in NY.
The taxes are high because they fund the payoffs necessary to the personal enrichment of politicians here, and the sky's the limit.
In NY, "legal" corruption has been perfected, and there will be no change any time in the near future."
Sigh.
So pessimistic. So cynical and depressing.
But so very true.
There doesn't seem to be any way out.
(I'm an upstate NYer)
I moved to Northern NJ last fall...don't worry, some of us new NJers are conservative, active and pretty darn loud about it! I enjoy parking my bumper sticker laden SUV next to the "Dump Bush...Kill Babies" in my town....it has gotten me in a few uncomfortable conversations at my fiance's church and it the Stop and Shop parking lot...but it sure is fun!
Everyone has different priorities, and I'm glad you've found such a great home in Nashville. It is no doubt helpful that the city is prosperous but isn't growing too quickly, unlike some other places.
South Carolina is not on this list? Good.

Ah, the free market.
Do you get many half backs ?
NY to Florida...then half the way back to New York.
OK. You and Wideawake can stay but the unbearable Libs who have moved to Montclair have got to go!
The People's Cube kicks ass.
Oleg and Brian were supposed to do something in the nation's capital during the last moonbat conclave in D.C.
I'm not sure how that turned out.
They need to revive Communists For Kerry's (Kommunists For Klinton?) street theater/political agitprop.
That was always fun to watch.
The politicians know it too.. In most places MORE GIVERMENT is a good thing.. Whats not mentioned however is for giverment to give it first has to TAKE... hopefully from somebody else(is the logic I assume)..
Those on the east coast(and other places) have yet to learn, socialism is slavery by giverment.. and they are not too smart or they would have learned it already.. Where you have high taxes you have a very dumb populace.. Any givernment owns NOTHING but they/it takes from the people, as a parasite.. The "people" are the Host, the givernment, any givernment is "the Parasite"..
The founders of the United States KNEW THAT...
Karl Marx did NOT..
I've been trying to leave New York for years but I just can't save enough to pay the State's exit tax.
As a resident of the Empire State, I can unequivocably state that this is a great place to live if A: You don't work, or B: You work for the state.
The Democrat socialists love what is happening. While the white middle class leaves the uneducated immigrant population takes their place thus more Democrat voters. Only the very wealthy and the poor will remain. Eventually the housing market in the NYC area will collapse as sellers will outnumber buyers. This will lead to total economic collapse of this region. Smart people are getting out now while they can still get a high price for their home. I would urge all to leave the NY, NJ area as I plan to do. In a word taxes taxes taxes.
