There was a crackdown Wednesday and dozens of illegal immigrants were arrested.
Many of those same immigrants were released just hours later
It was the last thing they, and their families, expected.
"They are not criminals. All they're here for is to work for their family," said Mariz Gomez.
And that's what they were doing making wooden pallets at two different locations when federal agents swooped in and took nearly 70 suspected undocumented workers to this federal detention center in north Houston.
"Just for them to come in here and to just throw them back to where they go. That's not right for them," said Gomez.
Families 11 News spoke with feared the men mostly from Central American countries would be deported.
But that was hardly the case.
Just five hours later Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents began releasing the undocumented workers.
"I was surprised by the quick release," said a man who asked that his face not be shown. Several others made the same request.
It is not clear why these immigrants were released so quickly but workers say it may be because the 950-bed facility was severely overcrowded.
The workers say they were told the facilities were full. Sources inside the facility say the same thing and that agents have been ordered to release immigrants as soon as possible.
Some of the workers say there were other problems Wednesday.
They said computers went down and agents had to scribble information, in one case, failing to write in a court date altogether.
The men we spoke with promised to show up for their immigration hearings, still finding it hard to believe they were released so soon.
Read #78 and answer.
Much work remains to be done before we can announce our total failure to make any progress.
PETA has the answer:
"When tiny guests stop by, turn compassion into action. Plastic trap catches mice alive and unharmed so they can be released outdoors. Be sure to check the trap frequently, so mice won't suffer needlessly. Each trap is reusable so that you can catch and release each mouse for relocation. We will enclose our Humane Control of Mice and Rats tip sheet with every order."

Disgusting...wow...do we suck THIS BAD?
The alien is supposed to be held until the matter is resolved. Since a quick check with the DHS database will show whether such claim is valid, the adjudication can happen very quickly.
Furthermore, even the relatives quoted in the news reports admit that those workers were illegal aliens. I seriously doubt that most of those released denied being illegal aliens. They are told that lying to a fededal agent is a felony, and they act accordingly.
Chertoff has become a parody of himself. I hope that SNL does not get hold of this news tidbit.
People for Eating Tasty Aliens?? They want us to eat them?
According to the article, the office's computers went down and all the paperwork had to be done by hand! Of course it was going to be slower and more mistakes made! Then before it was all done, they were ordered to release many of the people arrested because of crowded conditions at the facility.
You can be as skeptical as you like, but the article doesn't support your view.
Your defense of DHS is so lame. The job of DHS is to adjudicate these cases right away, assuming that there is need for such adjudication.
yeah released....this political football isn't going away so they better start doing something about this shortly.
What, they couldn't afford any buses to drop these illegals off at the border?
I just hope the bust they did with the pallet company in Phoenix won't have the same ending.
But it won't surprise me if it did.
Just keep thinking FENCE
How convenient. Too bad. They had no choice but to set them all free. (Humph!)
Always take the easiest path to reach your goal. "Now we know how really tough and how serious they are about immigration (not)."
Cattlecars taking them back to the border would be cheaper than airplanes, and I don't give a damn about the Nazi parallels. I am so angry I could spit blood.

The article quotes unnamed sources that the agents were pressured to release the migrants as soon as possible. I've yet to have a traffic ticket that wasn't completely filled out.
There is plenty of room for skepticism.
It is our policy.
Bush changed the policy to have illegals flown inland by plane.
We are stopping the catch and release program for non mexicans too, we already had it for mexicans.
Out of all the arrests you found one jail that was overflooded and they had to be released.
Dems blocked more detainee beds last year.
Whoever posted this isn't showing all the illegals nationwide who were arrested in this protest and weren't released.
They were arrested at 12 locations and one location was filled.
A lot of freepers love posting stories like this that takes everything out of context so we can get speaker of the house pelosi.
