(Full Story)

Pakistan needs to do more to crack down on terrorism along the Pakistani-Afghan border, a spokesman for Afghan President Hamid Karzai said Tuesday.

Rahim Karimi said in the news conference that Afghanistan need greater "cooperation" from both its eastern neighbor and the international community in its battle against Islamic militants.

Coalition and Afghan forces have in recent days been fighting fierce battles against Taliban fighters near the Afghan-Pakistan border.

Coalition Forces Kill Seven Terrorists, Detain Two

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, May 24, 2006 – Coalition forces killed seven terrorists and captured two others in Iraq yesterday, U.S. military officials said.
During a raid east of Lake Thar Thar, coalition forces killed four terrorists and detained two others. One of detainees is Sudanese. The other detainee, of unknown citizenship, was wounded in the initial raid, treated on site, and medically evacuated to the 10th Combat Support Hospital, military officials said.

Coalition forces found Yemeni, Saudi, Tunisian, Sudanese and Iraqi passports at the site of the raid.

In a separate incident yesterday, coalition forces located and killed three suspected al-Qaida terrorists near Yusifiyah while searching for a wanted al-Qaida terrorist.

The terrorists were driving a vehicle containing grenades and small arms. One of the terrorists was wearing a suicide vest, military officials said.

No coalition forces or civilians were injured in either incident.

Afghan, Coalition Forces Kill 24 Enemy Fighters

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, May 24, 2006 – Coalition forces killed 24 enemy fighters in Afghanistan yesterday, U.S. military officials said.
Afghan National Army and coalition forces battled terrorists for six hours in the Tarin Kowt district of Uruzgan province yesterday evening, military officials said.

One Afghan National Police officer and four Afghan soldiers were killed battling the enemy fighters.

Additional Afghan soldiers and police were wounded and were taken to a nearby medical treatment facility. No report was available on their condition.

The engagement started when a joint combat patrol of Afghan and coalition forces returned fire against several enemy fighters who were hiding in a compound.

Afghan and coalition forces beat back the attack with heavy machine-gun fire and forced the attackers to retreat. The enemy fighters then attempted to reinforce with additional militants from two nearby compounds, military officials said.

In other news from Afghanistan, three Afghan men and one woman were killed May 22 when a makeshift bomb exploded in the Jalrez district of Wardak province.

"Our sympathies go out to the families of the four civilians killed Monday by an IED explosion," Army Lt. Col. Paul Fitzpatrick, a Combined Joint Task Force 76 spokesman, said. "This is just another example of how enemy extremists use these tools of terror without regard for the lives of innocent Afghans in the ruthless pursuit of their oppressive ideals."

In addition, in two separate May 22 incidents, coalition forces found and disabled two makeshift bombs.

I found this a little odd. Any more reports of mysterious 'surges'?

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/060524/sfw122.html?.v=18

No doubt, they will tell us when they find out. Just like the person that died in England from Ebola, or was is in France from the Flu, or did anything really happen at all??

ICE operation arrests 32 fugitives hiding in Edison, New Jersey
Surveillance by ICE offices indicates some fugitives were working together to defy the law

EDISON, N.J. - In a pre-dawn operation this morning dozens of officers from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Fugitive Operations Teams arrested 32 fugitives hiding in the Edison area. All of the individuals arrested are illegal aliens from Indonesia who have been ordered deported by U.S. Immigration Judges and have defied that order.

Each of these individuals has a final order of removal issued by an immigration judge. “ICE is systematically targeting those who violate removal orders, and aggressively enforcing those orders,” said Raymond A. Simonse, field office director for ICE's office of detention and removal in Newark. “ICE's investigation revealed that some of these individuals worked together to hide their identities and locations and some frequently moved in an effort to evade law enforcement.”

ICE will detain all of the individuals pending their removal back to Indonesia. Three other individuals from Indonesia who are illegally in the country were also arrested during the operation; bring the total number of arrests to 35. Today's operation included deportation officers from ICE offices in both Newark and New York.

Removing fugitives from the U.S. is one of the cornerstones of the Interior Enforcement strategy of the Secure Border Initiative announced last month by Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.

Since ICE was created in March 2003, these teams have arrested more than 42,000 aliens, of which 31,000 were fugitives. More than 29,000 of these individuals have been removed from the country. The New Jersey Fugitive Operations Team has apprehended 796 individuals so far this fiscal year. By the end of this fiscal year, ICE will expand the number of Fugitive Operations teams from the existing 35 teams to 52 teams.

Travel Warning
United States Department of State
Bureau of Consular Affairs
Washington, DC 20520

This information is current as of today, Wed May 24 2006 21:24:50 GMT-0700.

EAST TIMOR

May 24, 2006

This Travel Warning is being updated to alert Americans that, due to ongoing security concerns in Dili, East Timor, the U.S. Embassy has been granted ordered departure status. Family members and non-emergency American employees have been ordered to depart East Timor. The Department of State urges American citizens to defer travel to East Timor. Americans currently in East Timor should consider departing in light of the current security situation. This supersedes the Travel Warning issued on May 4, 2006.

The Department of State is concerned by the threat to the personal safety of Americans in East Timor due to continued communal and politically motivated violence. Demonstrations in response to the dismissal of 595 members of the armed forces escalated into rioting and violence on April 27 - 30. Additionally, with only one road to the airport and three daily flights out, we urge American citizens to make travel plans without delay. American citizens who wish to leave the country but encounter difficulties doing so should contact the Embassy.

The Department of State urges American citizens to defer travel to East Timor and that Americans currently in East Timor consider departing in light of the current security situation. Americans who choose to travel to Dili despite this Travel Warning should be alert to the potential for violence and to avoid those areas where disturbances have occurred, primarily downtown Dili, Becora, the western suburbs, and Fatuahi. We urge American citizens to avoid demonstrations and large gatherings. Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. Any American citizens remaining in or traveling to East Timor are advised immediately to register at the Embassy and obtain all recent messages sent to the American community in East Timor. The U.S. Embassy in Dili can be reached at +670 332-4684 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. local time or the duty officer outside business hours at +670-723-1323. The US Embassy is located on Avenida de Portugal in the Pantai Kelapa area. U.S. citizens living in or traveling to East Timor can also register through the State Department's travel registration website, https://travelregistration.state.gov.

For the latest security information, Americans living and traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov/, where the current Worldwide Cautions, Public Announcements, and Travel Warnings can be found. Travelers should also consult the Department of State's latest Consular information Sheet for East Timor. Up-to-date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the U.S., or, for callers outside the U.S. and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).

Iraqi Insurgent Gives Chilling Confession
Washington Post ^ | May 24 2006 | Nelson Hernandez and Naseer Nouri

Posted on 05/24/2006 9:34:05 PM PDT by jmc1969

An alleged agent of the group al-Qaeda in Iraq told a chilling story of hijacking, kidnapping and murder in the name of holy war Tuesday.

In a videotaped confession broadcast on Jordanian state television, Khalaf al-Kerbouly related his deeds without a trace of emotion. Though Jordan's government billed him as a high-ranking al-Qaeda operative arrested in the murder of a Jordanian citizen, Kerbouly's account made him sound more like a simple foot soldier for Iraq's most prominent insurgent organization.

His confession gave a rare glimpse into the mentality of the combatants.

Kerbouly said he was an Iraqi customs agent along the western border with Jordan and was in a position to know who was entering and leaving Iraq, and to kill them if it suited al-Qaeda's purposes. Among his targets was a Jordanian truck driver.

"His name was Khalid al-Dasouqi," Kerbouly recalled in a flat tone. "He said, 'What will you do?' I said, 'I will kill you.' He started to beg me, 'Please, do not kill me,' and so I said, 'I must kill you.' He kept on begging me, and I pulled my personal pistol and said to him, 'Say your prayers.' He said them as he was begging.

"Immediately I shot him twice in the head. I left him in that spot and he was handcuffed and blindfolded. I made sure that he was dead, put his passport and papers over him and went away."

Dasouqi's wife, interviewed separately in the broadcast as one of her daughters wept, suggested that Kerbouly be executed in front of a mosque.

Kerbouly also said he had hijacked trucks, killed four Iraqi soldiers and kidnapped two employees of the Moroccan Embassy in Baghdad, who were killed after he handed them over to his superiors.

An update from the blog with the al Qaeda suitcase nukes story:
Bin Laden sought and received a fatwah ruling from Muslim clerics in 2005 for Islamic religious permission to detonate nuclear devices inside the US. The Quran requires bin Laden’s offer of a truce before Bin Laden can carry out the fatwah to use nuclear weapons in the US.
Remember back in January when we all had a hearty laugh about bin Laden’s audio tape offering the U.S. a truce? It's not so funny anymore because now we know why he did it.

"JI training in chemical weapons"
Natalie O'Brien
May 25, 2006

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "TERRORISTS linked to the group blamed for the Bali bombings are being trained in the use of chemical weapons that can cause widespread death and destruction.

Terrorism expert Rohan Gunaratna has warned that the authorities have proof Jemaah Islamiah has been training its operatives in chemical warfare.

Dr Gunaratna said authorities had recovered a training manual from the home of a senior JI leader instructing terrorists on how to develop and launch an attack with the deadly chemical, hydrogen cyanide.

"The chemicals and biological agents discussed in the manual were similar to those that al-Qa'ida had been experimenting with and producing in laboratories in Afghanistan," Dr Gunaratna said. "Al-Qa'ida has conducted experiments on dogs and rabbits exposing them to the fumes and forcing them to die harrowing deaths."

Australian Federal Police Commissioner Mick Keelty yesterday confirmed chemical warfare was an option that terrorist groups might consider, saying: "We do have to be prepared for biological and chemical attacks."

Speaking from Kuala Lumpur, where he was attending a meeting of regional police chiefs, Mr Keelty said groups such as JI had demonstrated their ability to quickly embrace new technology."

Iranian students clash with police
JP ^ | 5/24/06 | JP

Posted on 05/24/2006 10:42:06 PM PDT by freedom44

Iranian students have clashed with police and Islamic vigilantes during a protest against restrictions imposed by Mahmoud Ahmedinejad's government.

Some 40 police officers and four students were injured during the clashes outside Tehran University's dormitories on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, according to Iran Student News Agency ISNA, although conflicting reports listed the number of wounded police at around five.

Six students were reportedly arrested during the protest.

Western countries have long hoped that a popular uprising in the Persian country would lead to the overthrow of the radical Islamic regime ruling Iran.

Abdollah Momeni, a student leader, said up to 2,000 students had gathered for the protest over the expulsion of some students and the authorities' handling of critics.

He added that 20 had been seized by Islamic vigilantes who broke into the dormitories, reported ISNA.

"The main reason for the objections in recent days goes back to the limitations imposed on universities and political students after the new government came to power," Momeni said.

"Some active students have been expelled and some students face mass summons before disciplinary committees. We are also objecting to recent dealings with critical professors such as Ramin Jahanbegloo," he added.

Iran this month said it had arrested philosopher Jahanbegloo - a liberal who favors strengthening ties with the West - on charges of espionage.

Meanwhile students at Tehran's Amir Kabir University also launched protests against the alleged intervention of the Basij - an Islamic militia - in student elections.

"We don't want the Islam of the Taliban" shouted students, according to the ISNA news agency.

"Hamas looking to fly planes into buildings
Terror leader details goal to carry out 9-11-style attacks, 'possibly skyscraper'"
Posted: May 25, 2006
1:00 a.m. Eastern

By Aaron Klein
© 2006 WorldNetDaily.com

JERUSALEM – Hamas is seeking the ability to attack Israel using small airplanes laden with explosives to be flown 9-11-style into important targets, possibly Tel Aviv skyscrapers, Abu Abdullah, a leader of Hamas' so-called military wing, told WorldNetDaily yesterday.

Abdullah is considered one of the most important operational members of Hamas' Izzedine al-Qassam Martyrs Brigades, Hamas' declared "resistance" department. He said his group would not immediately carry out airplane attacks, but that Hamas is preparing for the possibility should a long-term truce it claims to abide by falls apart.

Abdullah's statements come after Palestinian security officials told WND they believe Hamas recently smuggled into the Gaza Strip three small airplanes that can carry explosives and be used to attack Israel. They said information indicates the aircraft were purchased from eastern European dealers and that Hamas members received flight training from professionals in the Sudan, Iran and Syria.

Abdullah refused to confirm the reports, but said his group has the right to acquire aircraft.

"I cannot confirm whether this information is right or not but for sure it is one of our goals to have these airplanes," Abdullah said. "It is part of our legitimate arming in case the enemy [Israel] thinks to launch a big attack against our people."

Abdullah said Hamas would fly the planes into Jewish targets, possibly Tel Aviv skyscrapers.

"The goal is to have these planes carry maximum quantities of explosives and that they will be able to hit the targets that are fixed for its operation at a high level of accuracy. All the Zionist goals in our dear Palestine are legitimate. I estimate that this tool will not be used against regular targets. We will choose precious targets and I do not want to speak about strategic or any other targets. ... We know that the enemy is building new and high buildings in Tel Aviv."

The terror leader listed possible military targets, as well.

"[Our target] could be important military and civil buildings and compounds and it could also be settlements in 1948 occupied Palestine (Israel). We know that many of the decisions to kill our brothers are taken in the army headquarters in occupied Beer Sheva (considered the capital of the Israeli Negev desert). All these targets are legitimate ones," Abdullah said.

Abdullah would not specify whether the airplanes used in the attacks Hamas is seeking the ability to carry out would be piloted or flown by remote control."
