Afghanistan Calls for Crackdown at Border

Pakistan needs to do more to crack down on terrorism along the Pakistani-Afghan border, a spokesman for Afghan President Hamid Karzai said Tuesday.

Rahim Karimi said in the news conference that Afghanistan need greater "cooperation" from both its eastern neighbor and the international community in its battle against Islamic militants.

Coalition and Afghan forces have in recent days been fighting fierce battles against Taliban fighters near the Afghan-Pakistan border.

Huge Fire Breaks Out at Istanbul Airport

ISTANBUL, Turkey -- A huge fire engulfed the cargo section of Istanbul's Ataturk International Airport on Wednesday, blocking air traffic and causing hundreds of panicked people to flee, television reports said. Authorities worked to evacuate thousands of people from nearby terminals.

Black smoke billowed 100 feet into the air and firefighters were trying to extinguish the blaze.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.

Private NTV television said some cargo workers may have been trapped inside the blazing cargo building.

I wondered if the bond amounts were were accurate as there are many listed with 0 (zero) bond.

A little more info. that I found on one of the early articles dated 5/22/06.

School employees tried to stop the white male driver, estimated by witnesses to be 35 to 55 years old, as he drove into the fairgoers..

He fled the scene. But he was arrested late Sunday night by Troy officers at the request of Southfield police who developed information to tell them where the man was, said Lt. Steven Lasota, in a statement.

Southfield officers took custody of the driver from Troy police and impounded the van. The man, whose identity was not released, will be arraigned at 46th District Court today, said Lasota.

Lasota had issued a notice to the media to alert people to look out for the vehicle, a maroon 1994 Plymouth Voyager, with a broken-out driver's side window and left taillight. The plate is DHA-648, according to witnesses.

He said the driver appeared to be clean-shaven, of average build and possibly had a receding hairline. He is asking anyone with information to call the Southfield Police Department at (248) 796-5500.

Driver charged in school festival crash that injured 13 people

SOUTHFIELD -- The Troy man accused of plowing his minivan into a festival crowd Sunday, injuring 13 people, has been charged with 28 felonies and could spend the rest of his life in prison.

Timothy Hall Buss, 34, was arraigned Wednesday morning in 46th District Court and faces 13 counts of felony assault with the intent to murder, 13 counts of felony assault with a dangerous weapon, one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident and one charge of malicious destruction of property. His bond was set at $1.3 million. The penalties for the most serious charges range up to life in prison.(snip)

Set to launch on 6-6-06, best-selling author Ann Coulter throws open the doors of the "Church of Liberalism" in her latest and most controversial book to date.

"If a Martian landed in America and set out to determine the nation's official state religion, he would have to conclude it is liberalism, while Christianity and Judaism are prohibited by law," Coulter writes in "Godless: The Church of Liberalism."

The WND columnist argues that while many Americans are outraged by liberal hostility to traditional religion, to focus solely on the Left's attacks on Judeo-Christian tradition is to miss a larger point: Liberalism is a religion—a godless one.

"Liberals love to boast that they are not 'religious,' which is what one would expect to hear from the state-sanctioned religion," she writes.

"Of course liberalism is a religion. It has its own cosmology, its own miracles, its own beliefs in the supernatural, its own churches, its own high priests, its own saints, its own total worldview, and its own explanation of the existence of the universe. In other words, liberalism contains all the attributes of what is generally known as 'religion.'"

Chapter headings in Coulter's "Godless" include "On the Seventh Day, God Rested and Liberals Schemed" and "Liberals' Doctrine of Infallibility: Sobbing Hysterical Women" and "The Holiest Sacrament: Abortion."

Coulter is the author of four New York Times bestsellers: "How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must)," "Treason," "Slander," and "High Crimes and Misdemeanors."

In her new book, available now through the WND Book Service at a discount of 32 percent, Coulter takes on what she calls the liberal creation myth: Charles Darwin's theory of evolution.

For liberals, evolution is the touchstone that separates the enlightened from the benighted. But Coulter neatly reverses the pretense that liberals are rationalists guided by the ideals of free inquiry and the scientific method. She exposes the essential truth about Darwinian evolution that liberals refuse to confront: It is bogus science.

Writing with a keen appreciation for genuine science, Coulter reveals that the so-called "gaps" in the theory of evolution are all there is – Darwinism is nothing but a gap. After 150 years of dedicated searching into the fossil record, evolution's proponents have failed utterly to substantiate its claims. And a long line of supposed evidence, from the infamous Piltdown Man to the "evolving" peppered moths of England, has been exposed as hoaxes. Still, liberals treat those who question evolution as religious heretics and prohibit students from hearing about real science when it contradicts Darwinism. A couple of provisions of the propsed immigration bill
