Overselling Climate Change
BBC ^ | April 17, 2006 | staff

Posted on 04/17/2006 1:26:34 PM PDT by Bubba_Leroy

Simon Cox reports on how scientists are becoming worried by the quality of research used to back up the most extreme climate predictions.

Every week we are assailed by scare stories about the climate. Malaria in Africa, hurricanes in Florida, even the death of frogs in Latin America - all are being linked to global warming. But does the science behind these claims really stand up, or are the risks of climate change being oversold to win the battle for influence?

The battle to feed all of humanity is over. In the 1970's and 1980's hundreds of millions of people will starve to death in spite of any crash programs embarked upon now.
- Paul Ehrlich in the beginning of his 1968 ``The Population Bomb''

This vast tragedy, however, is nothing compared to the nutritional disaster that seems likely to overtake humanity in the 1970s (or, at the latest, the 1980s) ... A situation has been created that could lead to a billion or more people starving to death.
- Paul Ehrlich, "The End of Affluence" (1974), p.21

Hundreds of millions of people will soon perish in smog disasters in New York and Los Angeles...the oceans will die of DDT poisoning by 1979...the U.S. life expectancy will drop to 42 years by 1980 due to cancer epidemics.
- Paul Ehrlich, 1969 in Ramparts.

We are all going to die! In less than 150 years, every man, woman and child now living on Earth will be dead!!!
- Bubba Leroy (2006)

Am I right in saying that this Paul Ehrlich is a Eugenicist?

Ah, Ramparts, from my youthful days as a Leftist. I still have a few issues stashed away in my garage.

We should just be thankful that we got an extra six years when we dodged the Y2K bullet!

Just 150 years?

There are lots of babies alive today that will still be alive in 100 years and, depending on advances in medical science, there are some that may be alive in 120 years, but I think 150 years is a safe bet.

Of course if I am still around in 150 years then I won't mind being included with Paul Ehrlich in a list of idiots who made stupid predictions.

Wait a minute...aren't we already dead from Mad Cow Disease, West Nile Virus and Lyme Disease?

Bird Flu = 98 deaths out of a world population in the billions? Yeah. Keep talking, "Experts." *Rolleyes*

If I'm still around in 150 years, wear a gas mask.

I'm only 40 something, and the outgassing is pretty bad... And little Mikey is following in Pa-pa's footsteps. He's got an SBD that can't be beat... ;>)

Wasn't there some environmental honcho that wrote explicitly several years ago that they *needed* to exagerate and lie about the environment in order to motivate the population to action? I think he retracted it, but he said it, and I don't think he was opposed by the environmentalists who were his audience.

"...how about the super volcano beneath yellowstone?"

Or the Ice Storm heading toward Canada. The Flood to End All Floods heading toward London City. The Fire to End All Fires that Sydney, Australia will suffer in the future? Another Earthquake in San Franciso...well, I don't CARE about that one, LOL!

DH & I watched HOURS of Discovery Channel yesterday while digesting Easter Dinner. ;) I call it "The All Disaster All The Time" Channel.

It keeps us up on what the EnviroWackos will have us worrying about next. Forewarned is forearmed...against them! ;)

The real concern of the white coats?
The deceit used in pushing an agenda on environmental hysteria...
will result in cuts in their grant money.

OK, that may not be true of all the white coats.

We watched some of that, as well.

Did you guys notice that the final statement in each segment, as the credits were rolling, all referred to Global Warming as the cause?

We decided we were just watching science fiction and took it as such.

"...all referred to Global Warming as the cause?"

Who else but the Hollyweird Whackos would fund the production of this stupidity? It's simply mind-boggling...but always good for a laugh. :)

I'm also (finally!) reading "State of Fear" by Michael Crichton. I know it's fiction, but it all makes sense to me now; I've checked the footnotes as I go along.

Another good read is "Fat Politics." It's all about the "crisis" of obesity that's been totally created by "scientists" and "diet gurus" to make us all feel fat. No matter WHAT we look like. *Rolleyes* The author actually started out writing a book that supports us all being obese...but what he found in his research was 180 degrees opposite.

He's a bug guy. Butterflies, to be specific. Excellent qualifications to lecture the world on the future of the human race.

One was the science editor of Newsweak. I don't recall him retracting it. As far as I know today, lying about the environment is still official Newsweak policy.
