You may remember a few months back around Novemeber, I was going to join the Marines. I finally told my parents and they freaked but they comprmised. I talked to both the Marines and Army I felt the Army gave me the best opportunity to serve my country in the way I want.I joined the Delay Entry Program in which I was able to move up a rank before going to boot camp. I'll be a signal support specialist, I leave two weeks after my graduation for boot camp. I look forward to serving in Iraq or Afghanistan that's why I joined. For me I couldn't sit back and agree with a war, and have other people fight for our country. After four years of service I plan on going to Texas State university and earn a Sports Marketing degree. If I still feel our country still needs men like me, i'll go in as officer.
And thank you in advance for your service.
I know several young men who have been in the Army AND the Marines. Either way, serving our country is a great thing for you to do.
It may smell real bad but it sure is deep...what could it be??
If you'd prefer something a little friendlier on the senses -
Brief History of the United States Marine Corps
On November 10, 1775, the Continental Congress meeting in Philadelphia passed a resolution stating that "two Battalions of Marines be raised" for service as landing forces with the fleet. This resolution, established the Continental Marines and marked the birth date of the United States Marine Corps. Serving on land and at sea, these first Marines distinguished themselves in a number of important operations, including their first amphibious raid into the Bahamas in March 1776, under the command of Captain (later Major) Samuel Nicholas. Nicholas, the first commissioned officer in the Continental Marines, remained the senior Marine officer throughout the American Revolution and is considered to be the first Marine Commandant. The Treaty of Paris in April 1783 brought an end to the Revolutionary War and as the last of the Navy's ships were sold, the Continental Navy and Marines went out of existence.
Following the Revolutionary War and the formal re-establishment of the Marine Corps on 11 July 1798, Marines saw action in the quasi-war with France, landed in Santo Domingo, and took part in many operations against the Barbary pirates along the "Shores of Tripoli". Marines participated in numerous naval operations during the War of 1812, as well as participating in the defense of Washington at Bladensburg, Maryland, and fought alongside Andrew Jackson in the defeat of the British at New Orleans. The decades following the War of 1812 saw the Marines protecting American interests around the world, in the Caribbean, at the Falkland Islands, Sumatra and off the coast of West Africa, and also close to home in the operations against the Seminole Indians in Florida.
"Be all that you can be" was much, much better.
Thank You!
Good luck, stay safe, and give 'em hell!!
As one who was the recipient of the amenities provided by the U.S. Army at Fort Jackson in the summer, I can attest that this young man will not, repeat, not, enjoy the weather then.

That's OK, it's Boot Camp, he isn't suppose to enjoy it ;)
Hooooah!!!!
Good luck and God bless you!
Best of luck to you.
I was not saying that he should enjoy boot camp, I was merely pointing out that South Carolina in the summer is exceptionally bad: very hot and very humid, worst than most places that I know. If I had had it to do over again, I would have chosen (and I did have the choice) October and November instead of July and August. That's all.
Thank you for volunteering to serve. Give your parents some time. Honestly we tried talking all three of our sons who volunteered out of joining. We later became very supportive of their decisions.
Sound like you have a good plan and have thought out your future. Serving will be one of the most rewarding things you will ever do (although it may not always seem like it at the time!) Good luck and hope you get to report back to FR from time to time to let us know your progress.
Thank you for your service to our country. My prayers are with you.
Have you seen this crap?
