Iran Leader: Israel Will Be Annihilated

TEHRAN, Iran - The president of Iran again lashed out at Israel on Friday and said it was "heading toward annihilation," just days after Tehran raised fears about its nuclear activities by saying it successfully enriched uranium for the first time.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called Israel a "permanent threat" to the Middle East that will "soon" be liberated. He also appeared to again question whether the Holocaust really happened.

"Like it or not, the Zionist regime is heading toward annihilation," Ahmadinejad said at the opening of a conference in support of the Palestinians. "The Zionist regime is a rotten, dried tree that will be eliminated by one storm."

Ahmadinejad provoked a world outcry in October when he said Israel should be "wiped off the map."

On Friday, he repeated his previous line on the Holocaust, saying: "If such a disaster is true, why should the people of this region pay the price? Why does the Palestinian nation have to be suppressed and have its land occupied?"

The land of Palestine, he said, referring to the British mandated territory that includes all of Israel, Gaza and the West Bank, "will be freed soon."

He did not say how this would be achieved, but insisted to the audience of at least 900 people: "Believe that Palestine will be freed soon."

"The existence of this (Israeli) regime is a permanent threat" to the Middle East, he added. "Its existence has harmed the dignity of Islamic nations."

The three-day conference on Palestine is being attended by officials of Hamas, the ruling party in the Palestinian territories.

Iran has previously said it will give money to the Palestinian Authority to make up for the withdrawal of donations by Western nations who object to Hamas' refusal to recognize Israel and renounce violence. But no figure has been published.

On Tuesday, Ahmadinejad announced that Iran had successfully enriched uranium using a battery of 164 centrifuges, a significant step toward the large-scale production of enriched uranium required for either fueling nuclear reactors or making nuclear weapons.

The United States, France and Israel accuse Iran of using a civilian nuclear program to secretly build a weapon. Iran denies this, saying its program is confined to generating electricity.

The U.N. Security Council has given Iran until April 28 to cease enrichment. But Iran has rejected the demand.

The chief of Israeli military intelligence, Maj. Gen. Amos Yadlin, was quoted Wednesday as saying Iran could develop a nuclear bomb "within three years, by the end of the decade."

I don't think Iran's President can say "come on and kick the shit right out of me" any clearer

Yeah...is this guy on somebody's payroll?! (like, um, Don Rumsfeld?)

He's doing a really great job of eliminating any hesitation about turning his country into the Great Glass Desert....

Israel better not wait for the US on this one. While we are their greatest ally and would nod doubt come to their defense, Israel can't afford a first strik from Iran. They can't wait for our footdragging. Our left and our MSM will not approve a preemptive action no our part.

I'm actually glad Iran's leaders are being so bold since it will make it a lot easier for us (and other nations) to deal with them and other nations which promote Islamic ideology which is, by the way, incompatible with a democratic or democratic republic type of government in a pluralistic society.

President nutcase of Iran is obviously trying to provoke an attack on his nation. The question is, do we have any choice except to give him what he wants?

As to odds, I have heard that Tradesport.com is taking odds on the likelihood of a U.S. invasion but I haven't been able to find the category listed. They have some very interest odds shown for 2008 Presidential primaries by party.

Here's the link...

Thank you. The first item is what I was looking for, Israel destroying the nuke plant in Iraq.

The stakes are much higher this time around...

If I lived in Israel I would expect my government to take action before the nukes fly.

Jimmy Carter did this to us. I know the Shah had plenty of detractors here and abroad, but my God, he would be dead by now and perhaps one of his son would have followed in the path of Jordan.

The ones to blame right now are all of those who have been undermining our success--Dems, MSM and Joe Wilson come to mind. If they cannot see how this fanatic is feeding off of them, I hope at least one of them survives what happens so they can see what "Hate Bush" got us.

I have not been this alarmed since I was in the 2nd grade during the Cuban Missle Crisis. That fear, nuclear annihilation, stayed with me well into my teens.

It seems Bush is between a rock and a hard place.....

1. Rock: Pre-emptive attack against Iran and live with the consequences home and in the Middle East
or
2. Hard place: Wait until the nukes fall to respond.

For most of us, it is a no-brainer. The rock is mightier than the hard place. On this, I do trust the President to do the right thing.

Don't think the nut case of Iran realizes what he's up against. And actually, I don't care. He's a nut...

"The existence of this (Israeli) regime is a permanent threat" to the Middle East

Look at a map and compare the number of Arab countries to the size of her.

In any case, she had better not wait for Superman to save the day. Time for her to roll up her own sleeves and go at it (gloves or not).

Anybody have the latest intelligence on what is up with Iran?

I assume the irrational nutjob leader of Iran is telling us what he wants, the real question is why. It leads me to believe that he may already have the bomb and plans to use it as retaliation if attacked.

I am beginning to think that Iran is going to cause 'total war' in the middle east.

Jimmy C. has been remarkably silent lately. But when we bomb Iran's nukes out of existence, he'll be right there...in some foreign country...declaring GW a warmonger and that we should have asked Iran nicely not to build nukes.

I will always remember Israel in the 60's and 70's--they could and would kick some serious ass.
