I saw McCain on TV making the quote and he cleary said "50 dollars per HOUR".

Yes, he mant to say $50 per day, but he said hour, which it what makes this so funny. Took forever for a Freeper to point out $50 per hour is not happening for this type of work anywhere.

Maybe he was talking about that "special" lettuce. The tall, skinny "leaf" type, with the pointy leaves and fibrous stalks?

Two of my kids were born in Yuma. We lived there 21 years last time and since my dad was in the military, I've done four different tours there.

It's really hot, and the snowbirds come as a whole army in the winter. But it's got the greatest Mexican restaurants anywhere, little family owned places. We take ice chests and stock up with food to bring back during our trips over there.

It's a Republican town too.

I called also but acted very much like I was looking for work. I told them how I had been in the construction trade but the pay got so low that I lost most everything.

They tried to interject but I just kept talking and they were not rude, I mean, they listened cause of the story I was laying on them.

I kept asking how I could get that job, that I understood it was only seasonal, that I would drive their to fill out an application if they wanted me to.

They never got around to telling me it was a fake offer. The call ended with me leaving them my contact information and mailing address for the job application.

Agreed. But I was looking for a catch in McCain's offer - if you only get paid a small part of the year but have to stay there for the whole year then its not much of an offer.

By then, you would have residency, and could vote against him.

Maybe THAT is why he suddenly decided it was all a rhetorical joke.
