I make $100/hr by sitting on my tail and just turning over real state.
Thanks but no thanks.
I have picked lettuce. It definitely breaks your back, plus all the chemicals give you allergies, the bugs and weeds give you rashes. On top of that, the heat is a permanent dehydrating hazard.

Or are you here to stir the pot? He's not stirring anything. I heard McCain say it.
"I doubt anyone here would be up to the task of picking lettuce for $50 an hour for a season."
He said it to a labor union meeting about a week ago.
McCain is the one who should be answering questions.

I called 480-897-6289 and talked to a young woman. She said she his office is taking names and numbers of people who want the jobs BUT that they have no job application forms. Hmmm... I asked when and where the picking season started, and she didn't know. She said that his office had no information on the details of his job offer. I asked if Senator McCain should know the details of his job offer before making the offer? She answered "no comment".

"The nitwit made that "offer" over a week ago. I'm surprised it didn't show up here sooner."
I have commented 2-3 times. I am a retired attorney in Phoenix and I never made 100K in my life. Of course, I didn't do trials.

However, the cost of the services that we provide to illegals would go down...
Something tells me to risk it. You can't reward illegal behavior just because you want things cheaper.

Maybe YOU can't work like that, John, but a lot of us would be more than willing.
Of course, we wouldn't stay lettuce pickers. Eventually, we'd own the field. And the one next to it.

Great idea! This not only shows him for the liar and fool he is, but rubs his nose in it with every call.

Let's each send McLame a head of lettuce as an example of our work. We can include a note stating that he will see that the lettuce:
1. Was cut from the ground at the appropriate place.
2. Lettuce leaf was not damaged during harvest.
3. Lettuce was properly washed.
This should be the best resume there is: An example of our AMERICAN harvesting work. This can show McLame that not all Americans are not the lazy, fat sloths he seems to think we are.

He also said, of course, "you can't do it", as if Americans couldn't do the job and we need the illegals to do it for us. White Men Can't Jump, Dance, or Pick Lettuce.

In part, that is why they are called migrant workers. They migrate from one growing area to another as crops come ripe. That is part of the reason Americans don't do this job much. Most aren't willing to leave a permanent home to do the picking. Illegals, who don't have a permanent home, are more willing to migrate.

I called and was told that it was a "rhetorical" statement by McCain.
too bad the mccain feingold bill can't be called rhetorical legislation.
To: Fred
I swear that if I were 20 years younger and didn't have an artificial hip I would take him up on it. For $50/hour picking lettice is a job Americans would do.

Agreed. But I was looking for a catch in McCain's offer - if you only get paid a small part of the year but have to stay there for the whole year then its not much of an offer.

They only pick lettuce from the end of November to the middle of March in Yuma.
Be a quick way to take care of a big chunk of college expenses at a state school. I wonder if this offer is contract labor.
