Mr. President, I thank Senator Leahy, ranking member on the Judiciary Committee. I have received just this afternoon in my office some disturbing news in the form of correspondence from the Congressional Budget Office. It suggests a number of areas where the amendment we are talking about here today, No. 3424, the immigration so-called compromise, violates our budget and the rules of the Senate. Let me read from the correspondence we have received. This is something, as you know, Mr. President, as a member of the Judiciary Committee, that we never discussed at all. It is not a matter we spent any time at all discussing as we moved forward with legislation which ultimately cleared that committee and came to the floor legislation which I thought was not good legislation and which I opposed, and so did the Senator from Texas, who just relinquished the Chair. We didn't discuss the financial impact of the legislation before us. Stand Up For America ! |

OMGoodness JP... Prayers being lifted for JP, her daughter, granddaughter and the medical staff who are taking care of this sweet little angel.
Bears repeating...on a daily basis...on every MSM news report...on bumper stickers.
"Considering this is our little corner of the world what did you expect?"
JP..LaEnchiladita...I see we have acquired some new posters here on this informative immigration thread. What a wonderful way to help them see the big picture! JP has worked hard along with many other Freepers to make this the Go-To thread to post and read the latest immigration articles, political leanings, news, etc.
Just want to make sure that this thread will continue to be a positive, kind, intelligent sharing of information. I would not want to see the nastiness that happened on the thread the other night. I will be watching closely to make sure that those who just show up to cause disruption, change the subject, or are just plain uncivil via mean and personal attacks mind their manners!!
You'll have to show me where I haven't been civil. And in the interim, you worry about your posts and I'll worry about mine.
After the rally, immigrant groups plan next step (Chicago)
Pilsen group will head to Washington next
The immigration movement is at the forefront of the countrys mind and passions are high after Mondays marches, organizers and legislators said Wednesday. Now they hope to capitalize on the momentum with a rally in Washington, D.C., on Friday, May 19.
Emma Lozano, president of Pueblo Sin Fronteras in Pilsen, said the Washington rally will call for an immediate moratorium on raids and deportations and for Congressional approval of a comprehensive immigration bill.
Pueblo Sin Fronteras, or People Without Borders, an organization that promotes the rights of immigrants and their families, plans to bus participants from Chicago to Washington, D.C., May 18.
The rally will be on the Ellipse, Lozano said, "which seems fitting to put it back on the president since the House and Senate cannot agree" on an immigration bill.
Lozano and organizers said they are in the planning and development stage and are unsure of specifics, such as the length of the rally, the number of buses, speakers, and participant size.
Alderman Danny Solis (25th Ward) said he was unsure if he would attend the Washington rally, but said he believed Gov. Rod Blagojevich and Mayor Daley would either attend or be represented.(snip)

Immigrants... sheesh... it isn't about immigrants. It's about illegal. And the pandering to Pueblo Sin Fronteras, or People Without Borders over citizens of the US who voice concern over this issue. Thanks for the post, V!!
Wonderful tagline!!
