Mr. President, I thank Senator Leahy, ranking member on the Judiciary Committee. I have received just this afternoon in my office some disturbing news in the form of correspondence from the Congressional Budget Office. It suggests a number of areas where the amendment we are talking about here today, No. 3424, the immigration so-called compromise, violates our budget and the rules of the Senate. Let me read from the correspondence we have received. This is something, as you know, Mr. President, as a member of the Judiciary Committee, that we never discussed at all. It is not a matter we spent any time at all discussing as we moved forward with legislation which ultimately cleared that committee and came to the floor legislation which I thought was not good legislation and which I opposed, and so did the Senator from Texas, who just relinquished the Chair. We didn't discuss the financial impact of the legislation before us. Stand Up For America ! |

Well, thanks. But those are from Neal Boortz's column. The line under the Statue of Liberty photo is the link. I should have put his name underneath it.
Anyway, I use points one and two in my phone calls.
God bless our Border Patrol, working for our nation's security 24/7.
And, Proudly Republican, welcome to the group here on the thread. Please come back. I share your frustration about being heard.

That is really difficult to look at and listen to.
Nothing but low-lifes on the other side and they laugh about being abusive.
The lady is a hero to me; I hope someone can tell her that for me.
This is a war, we will take some hits and we must be prepared.
Well, heck, we take hits right here on the forum!
White House Snubs 9/11 Families and Victims of Illegal Alien Crimes
HAWLEY, PA (April 25, 2006) 9/11 Families for a Secure America member Peter Gadiel, along with other families who lost loved ones to murders committed by illegal aliens, held a rally at the White House Monday to deliver over 570,000 petition signatures to demand that President Bush enforce immigration laws. Gadiel, who lost his son, Jason Gadiel, on 9/11 in the north tower of the World Trade Center, 103rd floor, made the following statement:
Families of Americans murdered by illegal aliens held a rally outside the White House on Monday, April 24th, to demand that the president start enforcing immigration law. Also present were Roy Beck and staff members of Numbers USA who had collected over 570,000 signatures on petitions to the president asking him to enforce US immigration law and stop the invasion of illegal aliens.
We attempted to deliver these petitions to the White House, and after the Secret Service contacted Administration officials, the message was relayed to us that Mr. Bush's minions would not accept them.
It was not particularly surprising to us, given the president's longstanding policy of refusal to enforce the law; his disregard for the security of the nation and the contempt he has shown for those of us who have seen our loved ones murdered by illegals, or raped, shot or otherwise victimized.
Nevertheless, each additional refusal by this man who professes a belief in God and has sworn an oath on the Bible to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, so help me God, is a further reminder that this president is little different from his discredited predecessor, Bill Clinton.
The foundation for the 9/11 attacks was prepared by al Qaeda during the Clinton Administration and principal responsibility for America's failure to prevent the attacks lies with Clinton, Albright, Reno and Jaime Gorelick. However, Mr. Bush's refusal to take even minimal action to stop the foreign invasion that has continued during the five and a half years of his term shows that he has as little concern for the security of Americans as Clinton. When there is another terrorist attack, Bush will have to accept full responsibility.
We were informed later in the day that Mr. Bush had spoken in Orange County, California and that Republican Representative Dana Rohrabacher refused to speak on the same program with him, saying that the president had sold out to the cheap labor lobby. We applaud Mr. Rohrabacher's integrity and good judgment.

Immigrants In, Wages Down
How to do the figuring.
EDITOR'S NOTE: This piece appears in the May 8, 2006, issue of National Review.
Do immigrants harm the employment prospects of native-born Americans? If so, how serious is the harm? Economists have analyzed these questions for the past quarter-century. Most of the early studies concluded that the wage impact of immigration was small. But newly available evidence is slowly breaking down this consensus. In fact, immigration may have depressed the wages of low-skilled workers by 5 to 8 percentage points.

Dear Faxer:
Tell Rep. Hastert you hope he is not wavering on an enforcement-only immigration bill
President Bush began a campaign this week to apply pressure to House and Senate leaders to pass some form of amnesty-guestworker program.
The Washington Post reports that Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, who voted in favor of the House-passed, enforcement-only H.R. 4437, is among House leaders who have "told Bush they are open to softening the bill they passed in December and allowing illegal immigrants a road to citizenship, as long as it includes stiff financial penalties and back taxes for illegal immigrants who seek lawful work papers, and strong border enforcement." It is unclear whether or not this actually means that Rep. Hastert is wavering in his support of H.R. 4437
What the President and many other congressional leader are apparently not considering is that there is a third way -- the practical way -- of "attrition" for dealing with the 12 million illegal aliens in our country. By stepping up interior enforcement efforts, such as workplace verification, many illegal aliens will begin to self-deport as they are unable to access jobs and other benefits.
As a spokesperson for Rep. Tom Tancredo' said, "No one is talking about mass deportations...Our approach is one of attrition where you make it difficult for an illegal alien to get a job in this country or to access our social services, so that over time, illegal aliens stop coming to this country and the ones already here go home."
As a reminder, just prior to Congress' Easter recess, the Senate failed to pass its immigration reform bill containing a massive amnesty-guestworker bill. Under consideration were three main proposals. One was passed by the Senate Judiciary Committee and crafted by its chair, Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA). The Specter proposal would reward illegal aliens with amnesty and add 30 million foreign workers and their dependents over the next decade. Another proposal, S. 2454, was introduced by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, MD (R-TN). S. 2454 would add 20 million foreign workers and their dependents over the next year. It would double the annual allotment of green cards. Finally, a proposal by Sens. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) and Mel Martinez (R-FL) would produce a tiered amnesty and add at least 35 million foreign workers and their dependents over the next decade.
At this point it is unclear whether or not one of these immigration bills will be brought to the Senate floor again, but Speaker of the House Hastert will play a key role in the process of reconciling the House-passed H.R. 4437 with whatever immigration proposal may come out of the Senate.
Send this fax to Representative Hastert asking him to stand firmly in support of H.R. 4437 and resist pressure to cave in and support some sort of amnesty-guestworker proposal.
NOTE: What's great about Numbers is it is free to sign up, when you are signed up and click on this the fax is there waiting to be clicked and sent/ I just did nanana ~Smile
