(San Francisco)Mayor: City would ignore (immigration)legislation if it were to pass
The Examiner ^ | April 7, 2006 | Justin Jouvenal

SAN FRANCISCO - Mayor Gavin Newsom said Thursday that The City will not comply with any federal legislation that criminalizes efforts to help illegal immigrants.

The mayor also denounced a bipartisan congressional proposal that would beef up border security and allow as many as 12 million illegal immigrants to gain legal status.

Newsom, who has not been afraid to wade into controversial national issues such as gay marriage, appeared with a group of elected officials on the steps of City Hall to support immigrants, “documented as well as undocumented.”Newsom also signed a resolution sponsored by Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval, and passed unanimously by the Board of Supervisors, urging San Francisco law enforcement not to comply with criminal provisions of any new immigration bill.

“San Francisco stands foursquare in strong opposition to the rhetoric coming out of Washington, D.C.,” Newsom said. “If people think we were defiant on the gay marriage issue, they haven’t seen defiance.”

The Constitution mandates that the federal government protect the borders of our nation and last time I checked, the Constitution was still the supreme law of the land.

"National-origin discrimination is the civil rights issue of our time,” said Rodel Rodis, a member of the City College board and an immigration attorney. “I could go to jail because of helping illegal immigrants.”

There you have it. There is no sanity left in that dump.

National origin discrimination? Maybe we should tell Mr. Rodis to take his message to France and demand that they pay his retirement expenses one day and see what happens.

I'll just let the comment about going to jail for helping illegal immigrants speak for itself.

There is one way to stop that crap in its tracks. Just put another provision that ALL federal money stops flowing into the city's coffers as soon as they start ignoring the law. Then fine the city $50,000 per incident for every illegal alien caught within its boundaries.

If the feds are going to ignore their own laws, why should a municipality respect them?

My state gives in-state tuition & drivers licenses to illegals. We also share a border with Cannuckistan.

Next year, a passport will be required to make a border crossing. You should see all the backroom dealing going on trying to get waivers. Wanna bet the rules don't take effect as prescribed? Neither would what you suggest ever happen unless we clean our legislative houses.

Not that the legislation will pass but if it did, I'd say ignore this stupid bastard and let him turn SF into a shit-sty, 3rd world city overrun with illegal aliens taking refuge there to avoid the law.

The joke would be on him.

If states can boycott national laws, can city-dwellers boycott city taxes? Like the SF tax money that pays for free sex-change ops to domestic partners?

What do you think would happen if the good mayor said this:

"Mayor Gavin Newsom said Thursday that The City will not comply with any federal legislation that criminalizes efforts to help illegal immigrants the use and ownership of machine guns."

Chapter III

Of Foreigners

Articles 33 - Foreigners are those who do not possess the qualities determined in Article 30. They have the right to the guarantees of Chapter I of the first title of this Constitution, but the Executive of the Union has the exclusive right to expel from the national territory, immediately and without necessity of judicial proceedings, all foreigners whose stay it judges inconvenient. Foreigners may not, in any manner, involve themselves in the political affairs of the country.

As George read this section of the Mexican Constitution on the radio, I immediately went to the Mexican Constitution on my computer and found that the section immediately preceding this states:

Article 32 - The law will regulate the exercise of rights that Mexican legislation grants to Mexicans who possess another nationality, and establish standards to avoid conflicts of double nationality.

The exercise of duties and functions for which, by disposition of the present Constitution, may be reserved to those who have the quality of Mexican nationality, and do not receive another nationality. This reservation also will be applicable to those cases which other laws of the Congress of the Union specify.

In time of peace, no foreigner may serve in the Army, or in police or public security forces. To belong actively to the Army in time of peace, or to the National Navy or the Air Force at any moment, and discharge any duty or commission in them, one is required to be Mexican by birth. The same quality is indispensable for captains, pilots, owners, machinists, mechanics, and in general for all personnel who staff any ship or aircraft that carries the Mexican flag or merchant insignia. Also, Mexican citizenship by birth is necessary to exercise the responsibilities of port captain, and all the services of director of an airport.

Mexicans will be preferred to foreigners in equality of circumstances, for all classes of concessions and all employment, duties, or commissions of government for which the quality of citizenship is not indispensable.

Someone ought to sure Gavin from here to kingdom come for declaring his intent to ignore the law if he doesn't like it. It's the taxpayer's money ... not his.

Why doesn't he just secede?

They don't want the military in SF, they don't want to adhere to the laws - let's push them into the Pacific Ocean.

I can assure you, that city (SF) would not care one iota about a boycott.

The more attention you heap on them, the more self-rightous they become. You kinda got to be here to get it. It's odd logic, but it works for them.
