Senate immigration overhaul in doubt

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. Senate compromise on an overhaul of immigration law appeared to get bogged down late on Thursday in the face of opposition by some Republicans who say it would give amnesty to lawbreakers.
It appeared unlikely the Senate would approve before a two-week congressional break on Friday the radical immigration reform that would give millions of illegal immigrants a chance to earn U.S. citizenship.
The bill's backers expressed fear that failure to enact the legislation before lawmakers leave for their spring break could hurt its chances in a congressional election year.
Senate Republican Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee and Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid of Nevada earlier hailed a "breakthrough" on the compromise bill that would include a guest worker program sought by President George W. Bush.
But the two leaders were unable to agree on how many amendments to the bill would be allowed.

I don't care what you can live with.
This nation can't "live with" the 20+ million illegal aliens-and their extended families-that Dubya & Co. are hellbent on legalizing.
They are criminals, and many of them are child-molesters, just in case you missed it.
In fact, there was an entire task force in the Justice Department devoted to tracking down and identifying pederasts who were also illegal aliens.
The only people who are "mad" in this debate are the open borders enthusiasts like you, and that pedophile-protecting, rabble-rousing, hypocritical scum-bucket agitators, Cardinal Mahoney.

What alternate universe do you live in?
27% of all federal prison inmates are illegals, 50% of LA county inmates are illegals. LA county alone has thousands upon thousands of felony warrants issued for illegals. The very same LA county has issued standing orders to their LEO not to pursue illegals.
Scofflaws are a corrupting corrosive cancer, and you want to excuse millions more scofflaws being thrust upon America?
Of course by your very statement, you are one of the scofflaws who scoff at the law.
To: catholicfreeper
You are a scofflaw enabler of the illegals.

"On a KFYI (Phoenix) news clip today John McCain said ".... compared to what we have now, this (reform) bill is nirvana."
Yep sure is, for illegal criminals and Quislings.

Are you serious.. you see this situation as just a fineable offense.. and not a threat to National Security, American way of life? What kind of Country do you want to live in, one that allows millions of illegal invaders to march in our streets by the hundreds of thousands, waving Mexican flags, in order to coerce our lawmakers, Congress, into creating and passing laws to THEIR satisfactions???

Cardinal Mahoney is one of many that should be notified that his tax-free status as a church will now be tax-paying, to subsidize illegal aliens through government services.

I have been psuedo-blogging, for years, a couple of the elements in WWIV ( III being the Cold War ), in which we find ourselves engaged.
The first element?
Islam, a Religion of Peace®? ( links, blogs, quips, quotes, aggravating pictures ) is located here- click the Pic, and scroll backwards:
The other, somewhat interlocking element is this one:
"Thunder on the Border," click the picture:
( PS- my personal prediction? That picture will become one of the most widely distributed, and most hated, pictures on the internet. The Illegal lobby could not have done more damage to themselves with that "Mexican Flag Superior, America in Distress" photograph if they had tried... )

"I believe that immigrants are not criminals"
What part of illegal do you not understand?
Do you think everyone in the US can be as flaky as yourself and just "believe" in what ever law they chose to?
Hmmm, I don't "believe" bank robbers are really criminals....maybe I'll go make an undocumented withdrawal tomorrow.
I don't "believe" that non payment of my fair share of taxes is a criminal activity.....therefore I'll go out and hire some illegals.
I "believe" I'll be a scumbag employer and hire illegals so I can compete unfairly against my competition who are suckers and abide by the laws and run legitimate businesses.
or... how about this... I don't "believe" my company should abide by the strict laws our country has set up for manufacturing medical devices... I "believe" I'll produce crappy inferior products and dump them on the unwitting public.
See how silly your position really is?
Just because you don't "believe" a law is a law... thankfully will not make it disappear. It is you who are making the mistake.

"1. this will open and help the party gain many more members" - You're a fool if you truly believe that.
"2. what makes this country great is how we treat our immigrants" - We treat legal immigrants late, it's alien invader trash that we hate. Let's not attempt to muddy the water by grouping the two together.
"3. lets solve this now" - Not at the expense of our sovereignty and rewarding lawbreakers.
"4. God loves the immigrant and will judge us how we treat strangers" - Again, legal immigrants are far different from illegal trash.

I believe that immigrants are not criminalsLegal immigrants are not. Illegal immigrants are.
And the mindset of persons who come here despite our immigration laws also leads to a mindset where they do not feel obliged to obey other laws of ours they find inconvenient. Do you think that is going to change by making them legal?

Follow the money. 20 million illegal aliens 80% from Catholic countries. Figuring that only half the criminals go to church on any week, and that they give an average of just $2.00 each, it's $16 million a week.
Rev. Ike would love a weekly haul like that.

It's really hard to get through to these numbers, because people are livid! But, I think we're making a difference because so far, none of the guestamnesty bills have passed. I hope a few Senators are listening...

Thanks for nothing, Senator Frist, and believe me, you can kiss your presidential aspirations good-bye, because the base will now desert you in vast numbers. And trust me, that is exactly what is going to happen. You think it is the illegals out there on the streets, along with a bunch of young people being truant from school, that you have to fear vote-wise. They mostly don't vote, or can't vote, or won't vote, but your Republican base does, in large numbers. You have chosen to please the wrong constituency, and that is the constituency that will do great harm to the future of our country.
Well put. This goes for all Republicans that cave into voting for guestamnesty.

It's held up because Senators are afraid they've pushed LEGAL American citizens that VOTE too far.
I've read that the number of calls/faxes/emails per day are now exceeding the number over the ports deal. Of course, we'll never know for sure because those Senators that vote for amnesty won't want to admit they're voting over their constituents objections.
