Deal Would Put Millions on Path To Citizenship

WASHINGTON, April 6 — After days of painstaking negotiations, Senate leaders today hammered out a broad, bipartisan compromise that would put the vast majority of the nation's 11 million illegal immigrants on a path to citizenship.

The plan would also create a temporary worker program that would allow 325,000 foreigners to fill jobs in the United States each year. The Senate was expected to vote on the measure late today or early Friday and, if passed, it would mark the most sweeping immigration accord in two decades.

Under the agreement, illegal immigrants who have lived here for five years or more — about seven million people — would eventually be granted citizenship if they remained employed, paid fines and back taxes and learned English. Illegal immigrants who have lived here from two to five years — about three million people — would have to leave the country briefly and return as temporary workers. They would also be eligible for citizenship over time, but they would have to wait several years longer for it.

Stop embarrassing yourself.

I used your own argument against you. You just are not bright enough to see it. You made my point for me, and now you are just angry.

You do have important business though, its called getting a clue.

There are many times the normal number of illegals flowing into the country right now as a result of all this.
Lots of harm is still being done by just not saying NO.

"The Repub. hierarchy treats him like he's radioactive so does he have to try 3rd party?"

Since he IS "radioactive" with the Pubbies as you so aptly put it, I can see him pulling a Teddy Roosevelt and going Independent.

He'd have MY vote.

They wont pass anything until after November. Bush will not provide a signing ceremony for campaign commercials for or against the issue.

Oh, you must be one of those who think Senators care about that. Sorry.

"Free Republic, other conservative websites, and a number of conservative organizations have got their torches lit and their pitchforks primed to go to battle on this amnesty legislation.......We've got important business we're attending to today and a ton of phone calls to coordinate to stop this sell out and surrender."

The kerosene can is filled and the pitchfork is sharpened.

With YOU all the way.

NO BILL IS GOING TO PASS, PEOPLE.

Which means the status quo. And since the Administration will not enforce existing immigration/employment law via criminal prosecution and/or fines, it will be left to the civil courts.

The Left has used class-action lawsuits for decades; it's now time for the Right to bankrupt companies, via damage awards, who violate our nation's laws.

Gee, Pukin, you cannot be speaking to me, can you?

I always vote and I vote for Republicans, even though I support conservatives in campaigns and primaries. I don't stay home and I voted 3rd party once and will never do so again.

You would catch more flies...err, FReepers....with a bit of honey in the vinegar.

I think the best gesture we can make to demonstrate our displeasure with the Senate bill is to vote en masse for Democrats this fall, and call our GOP reps to tell them we did so to protest their votes against our positions. That way, it’s crystal clear to them why they lost.

Guess the fact that a person overstayed their visa to work in the US are going to go out and murder children too, becuase they are "criminals".

We are not talking about the 10,000 or so immigrants who over stayed their visa permit. We are talking about the 10 MILLION or so illegal immigrants who jumped over the U.S. border, and didn't even try to get a visa in the first place.

" Your point?"

"Oh, you must be one of those who think Senators care about that."

Isn't the "point" being made that our Senators are supposed to support their constituency and enforce the law of the land?

Or maybe you're "one of those who think" we've elected a Nazi Reichstag?

There is no punishment for having broken our laws

Actually there is an element of punishment depending upon how long you engaged in breaking the law. If you broke the law for more than five years you are pretty much home free. But, if you broke the law for less than two years you are screwed. The message seems to be that the longer you thumb your nose at the law, the better off you are. Go figure.

You do have important business though, its called getting a clue.

How many illegal aliens did you exploit today? How many felonies did you commit today?

Here's a clue for you:

You do know that you've admitted to being a felon right here on Free Republic. Yes, in fact, knowingly hiring an illegal alien is a felony. Because you've admitted to it in public, you can't ever make the argument that you didn't know that you were hiring illegal aliens if (crossing my fingers) you ever get caught. The penalty for the violation of this law is a fine and imprisonment of up to 5 years for each offense. No wonder you're so excited to see this amnesty go through. If you haven't withheld and paid appropriate taxes, FICA, etc. from the illegal aliens' pay then you get the IRS coming after you. And they won't play nice like ICE does.

So that no one has any doubt about your true agenda here, I've laid it all out.
