Deal Would Put Millions on Path To Citizenship

WASHINGTON, April 6 — After days of painstaking negotiations, Senate leaders today hammered out a broad, bipartisan compromise that would put the vast majority of the nation's 11 million illegal immigrants on a path to citizenship.

The plan would also create a temporary worker program that would allow 325,000 foreigners to fill jobs in the United States each year. The Senate was expected to vote on the measure late today or early Friday and, if passed, it would mark the most sweeping immigration accord in two decades.

Under the agreement, illegal immigrants who have lived here for five years or more — about seven million people — would eventually be granted citizenship if they remained employed, paid fines and back taxes and learned English. Illegal immigrants who have lived here from two to five years — about three million people — would have to leave the country briefly and return as temporary workers. They would also be eligible for citizenship over time, but they would have to wait several years longer for it.

Wouldn't we be more assured of a republican majority in November if they threw a little more money at the border patrol.. NOW?

No, because while they are scaring you to the polls, they don't want to piss off too many on the other side to make them go to the polls too.

NO BILL IS GOING TO PASS, PEOPLE...

Right....nothing to see here. Move along, people. Move along.

Bullsh**!

I heard this same crap about CFR and how it would never pass, would never get past the Supreme Court, and now it is the law of the land. When you have a President who doesn't go a second of the day without pushing for amnesty while lying and saying it isn't an amnesty, there's a damned good chance that amnesty is going to get passed.

It would be nice if you're right. No bill at all is better than the bill being discussed now. We don't really need new laws, we just need to enforce our current laws. Any sort of amnesty will only serve to undermine our current laws and is a stab in the back to our Border Patrol agents.

If you don't want Bush impeached, you wont stay home on election day.

I'll be staying home. There is no one to vote for in Connecticut.

Do you have an argument, or do you just want to complain?

CFR was in the interests of politicians, and that is why it passed. It is the very same reason that no immigration bill will pass.

Politicians do things that help politicians.

An amnesty is an amnesty!

There is no punishment for having broken our laws

Illegal aliens can continue to stay/live here

Illegal aliens can continue to work here

Despite breaking our laws, illegal aliens are given a privileged path to U.S. citizenship

In essence, illegal aliens are rewarded for breaking our laws

Could this situation been ANY had different if Gore and Kerry had won AND both Houses were in Democrat's hands?

Tancredo has quite a platform to run on in 2008.

What politicians understand is by rewarding these millions of criminals, they will imbolden them to break more laws.

Do you honest think, even if you make these criminals, U.S. citizens, that they will obey the laws like for example buying drivers insurance, or filing/paying income taxes.

I wonder what will happen to all those undocumented individuals congregating by the Home Depots that work for cash off the books?

NO!!! A Thousand Times NO!!!

PLEASE CALL ALL MEMBERS OF THE SENATE BUT PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU CALL FRIST, DOLE, AND BURR.

Talking Points

Each office will tell you that Senator ______ does not support amnesty.

Tell them "Nobody believes you. Nobody is buying this Guest Worker is not amnesty. It is a lie. Stop this bill!"

"How can the US Government tell how long an illegal alien has been in America? That is a ridiculous proposal and does not change the fact this is an amnesty!"

"Current law calls for illegal aliens to be deported. The goal of this bill is to lift that law and that is an amnesty!"

"This bill contains in-state tuition for illegal aliens which is opposed by most Americans. In fact, a recent Fox News poll shows 98% opposition!"

"I'm working with Americans for Legal Immigration. There are thousands of us. Any member of the Senate or Congress that votes for any bill that allows illegal aliens currently in the US to stay will not receive our endorsement and will face our opposition in their next election."

"We will remember in November"

"Vote No on the bill! We want enforcement only. Enforce our existing laws!"

"You were elected to represent me. I'm an American citizen. It is clear that the purpose of this legislation is to represent foreign nationals that have become illegal aliens to satisfy your big contributors!"

"Why is Senator _____ not listening to Americans?" (wait for response then continue) "Any elected official considering supporting a Guest Worker Amnesty is not listening to or representing Americans."

"Guest Worker is an Amnesty. The American public is not stupid."

"I will dedicate my vote, my time, my funds, my life to defeating any candidate that votes for any bill with a Guest Worker Amnesty in it."

"What other laws designed to protect America and Americans do you plan to leave unenforced and remove later?"

"Your office is aware that the Border Patrol is reporting a massive increase in illegal crossings because you are even discussing this legislation?"

THIS BILL MAY PASS THE SENATE, BUT WE CAN STILL STOP IT IN THE HOUSE.

EVEN IF BOTH THE HOUSE AND SENATE PASS GUEST WORKER, THIS LEGISLATION CAN BE REMOVED LATER AND OR USED AS A NEW TOOL TO DEPORT ILLEGAL ALIENS. WE WILL FIGHT THEM EVERY STEP OF THE WAY BUT DO NOT LOSE YOUR MOTIVATION IF THIS PASSES THE SENATE.

Path to citizenship??

These bastards had a path to citizenship, and they decided it was too beneath them to take it. As far as I'm concerned, they should never be allowed to be U.S. citizens. But apparently the flipping idiots that occupy the Senate don't think the opinions of actual Americans count a lick.

I would say that you are partially right. No bill will pass that includes anything regarding guest workers, legalization, etc. will come out of conference. Conference will pass a border security bill. Fence, more border patrol, increased sanctions on businesses. Congress will not risk pissing off the GOP base or Hispanics.

Do you have an argument, or do you just want to complain?

Free Republic, other conservative websites, and a number of conservative organizations have got their torches lit and their pitchforks primed to go to battle on this amnesty legislation. Yet you come in here and try to pretend that we're just getting worked up over nothing and should calm down because nothing is going to pass. I don't want anyone to believe your crap and that's why I posted what I posted. I'm not complaining, you are.

Now, if you don't have anything intelligent to say, then shut up. We've got important business we're attending to today and a ton of phone calls to coordinate to stop this sell out and surrender.

Of course, you're worried that we might succeed and even get legislation that will go after the employers of illegal aliens since, as you've admitted on Free Republic, YOU are an employer of illegal aliens. You want an amnesty to pass so that you can keep tapping into that pool of cheap, exploitable labor. Of course you want everyone to calm down and stop fighting this. Your game is obvious.

There is not going to be a final bill, so I really don't understand what you are all so upset about.

I think you're right about that. It's maddening, but in the end, all these clowns want is to have something to pontificate about in November. Meanwhile, they fiddle while the country burns...

Guess the fact that a person overstayed their visa to work in the US are going to go out and murder children too, becuase they are "criminals".

The irrational hysteria in some of these threads is laughable.

I've know people who overstayed visas etc and they were EXTREMELY careful about NOT breaking laws, because they didn't want to be kicked out.

Anyway, I don't care if you call it amnesty or whatever, I hope that many of these productive and contributing immigrants are given the opportunity to stay and become legal citizens.
I have no problem with that at all.

That said, I'm for building a wall on the border to get control of the situation.
