Princeton University sociologist Douglas S. Massey reports that 62 percent of illegal immigrants pay income taxes (via withholding) and 66 percent contribute to Social Security. Forbes magazine notes that Mexican illegals aren't clogging up the social-services system: only 5 percent receive food stamps or unemployment assistance; 10 percent send kids to public schools.
Economist Larry Kudlow praises Hispanic entrepreneurship: "According to 2002 Census Bureau data, Hispanics are opening businesses at a rate three times faster than the national average. In addition, there were almost 1.6 million Hispanic-owned businesses generating $222 billion in revenue in 2002."
Total crime and property crime in California are half what they were in 1980; violent crime has fallen more than a third. The state's Hispanic population during that time has increased 120 percent.

"The United States somehow has managed to absorb 10 million to 20 million illegal immigrants not only without turning into Animal Farm, but while cranking up the most impressive economic recovery in two decades and the most prolonged period of declining crime in a century all in the teeth of the post-9/11 recession, wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the double-whammy hurricane season of 2005."
hmmm ... my reaction: If its such a great system, then why ruin it with these calls for 'immigration reform' ?!?
The answer lies in the fact that importing unskilled labor via *illegal* immigration is far different from the legal immigration, which is a mix of skill/unskilled.
"62 percent of illegal immigrants pay income taxes (via withholding) and 66 percent contribute to Social Security."
What percentage of LEGAL workers pay Social Security? CLOSE TO 100% ... this is NOT a good statistic! It is saying that tax evasion amounts to 1/3 of illegal immigrant wages!!
"What happened in California afterwards? The GOP used to own that state. "
Really? Is this why Boxer won in 1992 and Feinstein in 1994?
Face it. CA is a liberal state, not because of the hispanic vote, but the vote of white liberals.
And the other 38%?
Your comments raise a good point:
- Amnesty creates a LARGE amount of future liability on our old-age welfare programs.
As a result, amnesty is not just bad immigration policy, it is bad fiscal policy.
"And that is the meat of the matter, the open borders people do not see the usa as a nation with it own history, language, culture, they see North American as an economic zone and want easy access to the "cheap" labor south of our border. They do not care one bit about anything other then short term profits."
That's an overstatement. The 'open borders' position is coming from free marketeers who believe in less govt intrusion at the borders. These people believe in America and believe that America will prosper with the influx.
They are ignoring cultural consequences and are naive.
You are right about only one thing, it is unpopular with me for someone to call me a famale dog term.
Regarding the fence...you wrote:
"Because it will not work, it will cost millions,"
That's a pittance compared to the 10 billion a year that illegals cost the taxpayers of California alone.
I would not call the unions free marketeers and they are NOT weighing in why?
The Asian population where I live does extremely well, especially in school so I can't comment on them. However, I have to LIVE with my community going to hell in a handbasket. Since I worked in the school system I knew what was going on, not the pc stuff the school puts out. My two older boys want to graduate from their high school, but my youngest, no way. We are planning to move, along with alot of other people I know. White flight.

I was at the INS office with my wife recently (she's been waiting for her citizenship for 5 years now by the way) and when we talked with the INS case officer he said tax evasion is rampant in Los Angeles and that the city actually encourages it and is actively uncooperative in investigating these matters. This is not just being done by people hiring illegals for yard work; this is being done by large companies and the city is enabling it. I'm sure things are even worse now under Villaragosa.
Pay a fine then do what?
This country lacks the inner strength to carry on the war on terror in spite of the horrific images we all saw on September 11; watch TV you see the "bring the troops home" mantra daily.
I don't know that on a divided issue such as this, the general population could withstand the assault by the media, and the flood of images of families being taken out of their homes and forced to leave the country being blasted across the TV screens nightly.
We are generally a good people, with big hearts...I don't think we can successfully deport 10 to 20 million men, women, and children without tearing ourselves apart as a nation.
