McKinney faces arrest over security incident

Capitol Hill police are expected to seek an arrest warrant next week for Rep. Cynthia McKinney of Georgia, who was involved in a physical confrontation with a Capitol police officer Wednesday, police and legal authorities said Thursday.

Officially, the investigation of the incident, in which the DeKalb County Democrat allegedly struck a police officer who tried to stop her from going around a security checkpoint, is ongoing, said Sgt. Kimberly Schneider, spokeswoman for Capitol Hill police.

However, police have notified the federal prosecutor's office in Washington that they will be seeking an arrest warrant after the investigation is complete next week, said police and legal authorities, who spoke on the condition that they not be named because the investigation was not yet complete.

McKinney ignored a reporter's questions Thursday as she walked into the Capitol, before word of the planned arrest warrant. She could not be reached for comment later Thursday. . . .

G'mornin', neighbor.

BTW, did you know that there was a redistricting tweak such that I'm no longer in her district, as of about two years ago?

Hooray!

She looks pregnant. Can anyone verify?

Okay, okay. It was me. I succumbed to my animal instincts and gave in to that beautiful vixen!

All the reports I've read state the officer called out "Maam, Maam" at least 10 times then placed his hand on her arm. So far you're the only one who's suggested he "grabbed" her. However, he should have not only grabbed her but tackled her to the ground.

He did not recognize her, she bypassed security, was not wearing her House pin, he attempted to stop her vocally 10 times, she kept moving on. For all he knew she could have been a terrorist or another shooter at the Capitol. It's his responsibility for security.

Cynthia McKinney

The rep who cries racism.

All of us have voices in our heads, whispering insanities. Rep. Cynthia McKinney's problem is that she lets hers speak. She's the Christopher Walken character in Annie Hall, except when she's tempted to swerve into a car's oncoming headlights, she actually does it.

<snip>

In August 1993, during her first term in office, a Capitol Hill police officer tried to prevent her from bypassing a metal detector, as members of Congress are allowed to do. For years afterward, The Hill reports, the Capitol Police pinned a picture of McKinney to an office wall, warning officers to learn her face because she refuses to wear her member's pin. (And because officers are innately suspicious of a black woman with braided hair and gold shoes.) Five years later, she blasted White House security after guards thought her 23-year-old white aide was the congresswoman.

Hope there are some TV cameras there for the arrest.

So does McKinney. This will appeal to her base.

Good find, thanks. It's amazing how powerful Dubya really is. He was promoting discriminatory racial policies at the White House before he was even governor of Texas!

The "Entitlement Generation" lives to sully life another day. Move to N'Awlins, Cynthia! I don't usually resort to calling women by animal names, but this specimen is in the porcine family of malcontents.

She's not a senator, so maybe there's hope.

As I commented earlier, we're still not sure what happened there, and I've asked a few people who were my contacts with her campaign, when I was helping with some grunt work on reaching out to get Republicans to cross over for the primary.

The papers claimed the Republican crossovers didn't matter, that Majette would have beaten McKinney in that primary in any case. I think that is likely B.S.

Based on that, one scenario is that Majette thought that she wouldn't be able to win the primary against McKinney in 2004, without the R crossover votes. We were too interested in the Senatorial primary to do it again. So she became the sacrificial lamb in the Senate race, which gave her more name recognition for future races, as well as a semi-graceful way to bow out, rather than be defeated by McKinney.

My take is that it was either that, or pure hubris/idiocy on Majette's fault, as she was just *never* going to win the statewide Senate race.

The police officer grabbed her by the arm first. She can always say it was a startled reaction to being grabbed. This case is going nowhere.

I wouldn't be so sure. The cop kept telling her to stop....but she kept walking. AND.....she wasn't wearing the ID badge that's required to pass the check point.

Years ago I worked at VARO and they had high security clearance checkpoints. I knew the guards very well after that first year......but I can tell you from experience... if I forgot my badge.. I was not allowed to pass until my supervisor came to get me.

CK needs to be held to the same standard.

See my post a couple above to Rummyfan for some additional commentary on this.

except the poor guard

Not a guard. He was US Capitol Police, no different than assaulting US Secret Service, US Marshall or FBI.

Federal law enforcement. If the incident happened as described, and there's probably video, the D(GA) might well be "due in court".

Take her out onto the Capitol grounds, handcuff and blindfold her, then stune her beeber with a taser. Then release her back into the wild.

ROFLMAO, you owe me a keyboard and coffee...
