Washington, DC: President Bush made clear today that he thinks guest workers should be able to become American citizens. He stated, "I believe that we ought to say to somebody doing a job an American won't do, 'here is a tamper-proof identity card that will enable you to be here for a period of time. And if that person wants to become a citizen of the United States, because we're a nation of laws, they get at the end of the line, not the beginning of the line."
Senator Kennedy issued the following statement in response:
"I commend President Bush for backing the position that guest workers should be given the opportunity for earned citizenship. It is the only realistic way to break the cycle of illegality and is an essential aspect of the McCain-Kennedy three-part strategy to fix the broken system: stronger enforcement to improve our national security, a temporary worker program to meet the need for future flows that includes the opportunity for earned citizenship, and a path to earned citizenship for those who are already here.
As the President departs for Mexico today, he has before him an opportunity to fully embrace bipartisan comprehensive reform and the McCain-Kennedy plan. As he rightly says, we can be both a nation of laws and a welcoming nation."
BETRAYING AMERICA SINCE 1965!
Should be indication enough for the President that he is F'N OUT OF TOUCH WITH THE REAL WORLD on this issue
Are you talking about the Kennedys?
So, Sir, that pretty much frees up all jobs but Senator for the illegals because you wouldn't do any of them.
Please call them INVADERS and don't compare them to people who are legal aliens!
IF you aid and abet CRIMINALS, you are a criminal!
President Bush has been great on most things except for our border.
He has been great on the war on terrorists.
But on the border he is a gross failure.
He acted fast and correct on the 3,000+ people murdered at the world trade center.
He ignores the many rapes, murders and robberies which might be larger than the murders and money loss at the world trade center.
More Americans are abducted on the border of Mexico than in Iraq!
Start building the fence.
It should be made a felony for Criminals who overstay their visas and Invaders.
I believe we should give amnesty to these poor CRIMINALS or INVADERS.
This should be a 2 week amnesty to get the heck out of our Country.
The ones who ignore this amnesty should be buried in a tent city jail and fined $10,000 or buried elsewhere.
All aiders and abettors of these CRIMINALS or INVADERS should get 1 year in a tent city jail and a $10,000 fine for each CRIMINAL aided.
Those in government should be the first ones charged.
Well he must have been sober when he said it....
If Kennedy is agreeing with Bush on this, President Bush needs to reconsider his position on illegal immigrants.
Ahem...a nation of laws?
I think I'm going to be sick...
How can the President be RIGHT on so many issues, and soooo wrong on this one?
Absolutely. Bush should never ever agree with Kennedy. Agreement will just get him another stab in the back.
An 'atta boy' from Red Ted is a sure sign your going in the opposite direction from what is good for Americans. Ughhh.
The sellout continues.
Just one question, Mr. Kennedy, and no, it doesn't involve your driving, so you can take a deep breath...
If in 1986, we gave citizenship to those illegals who were residing here who wanted it, and less than half actually took us up on the offer, and today, we have nearly six times the number of illegals, how exactly does this earned citizenship prove being effective?
Does it not simply prove that amnesty not only doesn't work in discouraging illegal immigration, but instead encourages it? And even when offered, more than half the illegals aren't even interested in filing the paperwork?
Isn't repeating a failed experiment over and over again and expecting a different result simply a hallmark of the liberals?
That's right, W, unfortunately you're not enforcing laws already on the books.
