In all its cacophony and moments of absurdity, this morning's Today show segment on immigration was a supremely edifying example of the confusion, high emotion and complexity of the immigration debate. Matters reached their Alice-in-Wonderland apotheosis when Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California was shown in a Senate committee arguing that illegal immigrants are good . . . 'citizens.' Said Feinstein:
"They pay taxes, their children are Americans, they go to schools, they're good citizens and they're needed."
This was in line with the fait accompli argument advanced by La Raza representative Janet Murguia. She referred to what she estimated as the 11-12 million illegal aliens in the country as "people are working in backbreaking work that nobody else wants to do in this country. We need to . . . understand that they are already part of this country."

Add new states -- not the existing 32, but what makes sense, such as giving Baja to California, maybe even split California at the same time, combine smaller Mexican states. Then increase the number of representatives in the House, increase the Electoral College (automatic based on number of States and Representatives), and watch the fun as politics realigns. We haven't added a new state since 1959. This might even make Puerty Rico want to choose sides once and for all.
The simplicity of this is that it eliminates the racist claim from Mexicans because all Mexicans everywhere will become citizens of the USA. Also, currently naturalized citizens like Schwarzenegger and Granholm, as well as the former Mexican citizens, can be given one-time waivers to now be eligible to run for President (such as the clause at the time of the ratification of the Constitution).

For better or worse I don't think she knew what she was saying. She probably meant it in the way we say of someone "he's a solid citizen" meaning he's a good guy. But for her not to realize the implications of what she was saying in the context of the immigration debate reveals a serious tin ear.
No kidding, but given the pussy footing cowardly actions of our state and US Congresses, our President and the media, I'm not very hopeful. This whole protest crap is spinning out of control. The US Congress should have stopped this flood of illegal immigrants from Mexico long, long ago and stopped their incentive of coming to our country with our ridiculous law that made an illegal's child born in the USA an automatic citizen. What insanity!
I watched the local news in Houston & it made me ill. Where in the hell are the grown ups? Has the term ILLEGAL turned into a meaningless sound bite? Sadly, I already know the answer and I'm thoroughly disgusted.
Right now, I'm probably the GOP's biggest nightmare. I want this insanity to stop and for my party to stop acting like political whores and get this situation under control!
Now THAT is a racist statement if ever there was one, and not surprisingly, by a pro-amnesty neo-apartheid advocate. How great it'll be for the globoGOP and old Rat party to have proven themselves to be exactly what the left has been claiming all these years. Unfortunately, it'll probably be the left that benefits from such a mistake.
What adam_az said BUMP!
Our country is circling the drain, is what is happening. You won't recognize it in 5 years if something doesn't change.
Flood America with violent criminals and take guns from
their would be victims...
Now why would they want to do that...
To kept the peasants from the uprising that is sure to come...
imo
Recall DiFi .... scratch that .... ARREST DiFi!
Please! They're NOT bank robbers! They're "undocumented account holders, making withdrawls!" Careful, you might hurt someones' feelings. We certainly wouldn't want that.

She was reading from the White House talking points.
I've been telling people (anyone who would listen to me) for years that the reason that leftist WANT the "public school system" to fail, is in order to destroy education about what makes The United States of America special. If The USA isn't special, then why should being a citizen matter? And if citizenship doesn't matter, then neither do borders. Of course, try telling Vincente Fox that, if you're from Honduras or Guatemala. Then you'd have to deal with the Mexican army, making sure you can't get into Mexico, unless you're just passing through, on the way to the USA.
What I want to know is, if these people love Mexico so much, then why don't they want to stay there? More importantly, if they think that the USA is better, then why do they want to bring the living conditions from Mexico, here, when they're trying to get away from those living conditions?

What does she say about the Vietnamese who apply for a visa in their own country and have less than a 5% chance of being accepted because the US is too busy absorbing illegal mexicans. IS that diversity? Is that fair? Is that American?

They're in meat packing plants too. If you look at the wages paid to employees, they drop as illegal aliens begin moving into the labor force.
If you want to slow illegal aliens coming into the US, you need to cut the demand, meaning getting brutal on businesses that hire illegals. First offense, $5,000 per illegal working. Second offense $50,000 per. Third offense, $500,000 per illegal. It will bankrupt some companies, but it would be worth it. And maybe putting the CEO or owners in jail wouldn't hurt either.

They're just committing the crimes Americans won't do!

And Bush bloviated while we were inundated.. ON PURPOSE..
I am thinking anyone who has any sort of Mexican roots and was born in the USA should start demanding free services from Mexico. My great grandmother was born in Mexico. So, I want part of your house, Vincente Fox.
