36 days until R&R...

What unit are you serving with, Allegra? I have a childhood friend up in Mosul. He's definitely looking forward to his next R&R!

I'm a civilian contractor working in support of the troops.

I've been here over two years now.

I need my head examined. ;-)

I'm not denigrating the troops, tehy are doing a great job.

It's just that one cannot help another who does not want help.

Muslims do not want to be like Westerners.

They prefer Islam over Freedom.

And anyone who says they prefer freedom over Islam is considered an Apostate, punishable by death, so that's why few speak out against it.

People prefer their own tribe.

One possible solution is to split the country back up again, have fortified borders, and split the oil money equally, based on population.

Baghdad needs razor wire around it and the rest of the Sunni Triangle.

Let them at it and each other.

Hmmmm....I've been hanging out with the Iraqis for over two years now.

I suppose I should accept your views over what I've seen and heard?

Let's see....which way do I believe? My experiencing it firsthand or someone who sounds suspiciously like they're listening to lots of media reports?

Decisions, decisions...

Just split the oil money with the folks living where the oil comes out of the ground.

That would leave Iraq's Sunni Arab population with virtually no income of any kind.

Yes you do dear.

I could never make anybody uderstand. I gave up trying.

It took me a long time to figure it out myself. I never thought I'd be here this long.

I do get comfort from the fact that friends of mine who have done this feel the same way I do and can't pull away from it just yet.

I intend to see it through.

My wife's cousin works for Blackwater. He's been in Iraq for going on 3 years now. We hear from him occasionally and he paints a very different picture from what the Laimstream media is portraying. Keep up the good work and enjoy your R&R!

Hi Allegra,

I have a nephew who is an MP - he is guarding prisoners (weinies as he calls them) at a facility on the Iraq/Kuwait border. He told me that civil war is imminant and that the Iraqis will never be able to adapt to democracy because too many of them are illiterate-can't read, write or anything and they only listen to the imams and mullahs or whatever. I was so discouraged when I heard this. I thought maybe it is because he only sees the dregs-the terrorists, the worst of the worst. He is hoping to transfer to Afghanistan after this tour is up.
He said that we as Americans will never be able to coexist peacably with Muslims because Muslims believe that anyone who does not share their faith must be killed. Simple as that.

Oh well. I'm hoping his outlook is the result of hanging around too many prisoners.

Right, and so they wouldn't go for it, there would be constant war.

I hope so too, because most of us here don't see it that way at all.

The media does, though. Or at least they insist on portraying it that way.

There are also people whose glasses just tend to be half-empty and they'll always persist in seeing dark where there is so much light.

And then there are the "Negative Nellies" right here on FR. I've given up on them. They'd rather cling to what the media spews than hear what any of us have to say.

This is going to work. And that's what I have to say about it.

Please take your preaching somewheres else. We're trying to have a discussion here not a sermon of how bad Muslims are. The current situation in Iraq is not typical of the rest of the Muslim world.

I agree in general that the Muslims have shown themselves for who they really are, a bunch of barbarians.

stop all political and service cooperation with the U.S. forces until a legal committee is formed to investigate this incident

Weren't McCain and Feingold heading to Baghdad? Are they there already? ;-)

Muslims that live here seem to ea up h freedom thing.

Saudi's shun the Shia sect of Islam.
