"Little Fat Muckie should be next!"

I second that Redbob. I can't see why fatboy is still out there making trouble. Look, all the critics say the country is moving towards a civil war between the Shiites and the Sunnis. And that we are seen by the Sunnis and siding with the Shia. Ok, fine. To dispell that notion let's arrest fatboy and throw him in a cell with Saddam. Last one to sing is the buttboy.

You can be sure the volunteers haven't seen any videos.
And you can be sure in what passes for basic training they've been told that Americans fight like (whatever the Arabic term is for "Nancy boys"). And that Allah will give them glorious victory.
Little do they know. Less do they suspect.

not necessairly. what we dont need now is a shiite insurgency as well as a sunni one...i know some here think(do they actually think?) we can just kill everyone, but he is an elected politician and killing him or his followers will only result in more american killed....thus so far Shiites have not risen up against the US, but if they do there is no way we can win this war.

I'm having a hard time imagining how this helps, take the operative phrases "US troops clash" and "dead bodies in the Mosque" - Now ask yourself based on what you know of the situation there how that could be a plus for us?

Then add on the elected political power of Al Sadr. Then add his Iranian connections and then remember this isnt the first time we've had deadly clashes with this guy and his militas. He hasnt grown less popular or less capable of weilding real street level power, on the contrary he now has a better equipped and better trained force. The fact that we're still dealing with this clerical timebomb in 2006 is a major mistake on our part. The notion that we'll gain support from the Sunnis by fighting the Shiia is one of the most naive statements about Iraq you could make.

this is an incredibly dumb move. The last thing we need is to inflame the Shia, who already suspect we are conspiring with the Sunnis. Al-Sadr will no doubt exploit this incident to his advantage.

AL Sadr is where all the Terrorist come from.

He goes back and forth to IRAN, where he gets his supplies.

Shame on all you Muqqy bashers. He's just a harmless little fat potential Democrat ally in the war on terror.

First off I was being sarcastic (not very effectively I see). But there is a serious message here.

I am not saying we should kill Sadr and destroy his militia to court the Sunni per se. We should attack Sadr and his militia because they are working against the government we are trying to establish. We should destroy them not to make the Sunnis happy, though some useful allies may be happy to see him fall. You destroy Sadr and his army for the same reason we destroyed the Wolf Brigades in defeated Germany. You destroy them because they are working against what we are trying to accomplish in Iraq.

I agree with most of your analysis...however, we can win this any time we want shutting down the city with curfew, taking out the leardership in Syria, and accelerating the demise of the Mulahs in Iran...Ruthlessness is an option...wait until we get hit again here in America...

""dead bodies in the Mosque" - Now ask yourself based on what you know of the situation there how that could be a plus for us? ..."

What's your point?
Have you bought into the bullshit that Mosques must be held as sacrosanct - safe sanctuary for Muslims?
The islamist lunatics don't -- neither should we if the members of the Mosque defile it first by their actions.

We are NOT in Iraq to make it safe for radical militants who are maneuvering for positions of strength against the ELECTED government... If those enemies of the Iraqi people, decide to wear the garments of a cleric, raise an army and think they are safe within their Mosque Headquarters --- we SHOULD relieve them of that error..

Sadr should have been killed LONG ago...
He will NEED to be killed soon, if for no other reason than his closeness to the radical leadership of Iran which some seem to indicate should earn him special respect..

We are not so much in a war against terror, as we are in war against militant Islamic lunatics wishing our destruction and their chosen lifestyle from the 7th century.. Sadr is their poster boy.... Kill him.....Now!By ANY means possible....ANYWHERE we can accomplish it -- even at the podium of his "holy" Mosque....

Apparently you havent heard the phrase "let YAH sort them out". And Yes we can. or do you subscribe to the thought we should save the young rattle snake or scorpion.

Its really beside the point if you or I consider a Mosque to be a no fire zone, we're not there, the Iraqis are and they tend to get pretty outraged over these sort of things. If we approve or disapprove of this latest incident really doesnt make the job for out troops today and tomorrow any easier or less dangerous. If things hold true to form in Sadr City you can expect to see kids dancing around a burning humvee any time now.

"We are NOT in Iraq to make it safe for radical militants who are maneuvering for positions of strength against the ELECTED government... If those enemies of the Iraqi people, decide to wear the garments of a cleric, raise an army and think they are safe within their Mosque Headquarters --- we SHOULD relieve them of that error.."

Tough words but hopelessly misguided analysis, Sadr controls one of the largest and most influential ELECTED politcal blocks in the fledgling Iraqi government. You are correct in phrasing it as a "we" and "they" situation but you're forgetting "we're" in "their" country. You could no more remove these Shiites from Iraq than you could remove Southern Baptists from the US.

"We are not so much in a war against terror, as we are in war against militant Islamic lunatics wishing our destruction and their chosen lifestyle from the 7th century.. Sadr is their poster boy.... Again the talk is tough but the logic is lacking, yes go ahead and kill him but then what? Saddam had problems with Sadr's father and killing him didnt stop the Madhi movement did it? Sure you can drop a bomb on his Mosque tonight but by dawn there'll be even more momentum and reason for his followers to openly rise up.

"Its really beside the point if you or I consider a Mosque to be a no fire zone, we're not there, the Iraqis are and they tend to get pretty outraged over these sort of things."

Muslims tend to get outraged over anything they deem convenient.... They themselves hardly recognize the sanctity of Mosques, when they wish to use one as a firing position or to murder someone within.... We really can't persist in wearing the handcuffs of avoiding things that "outrage Muslims"....or they will continue doing things that outrage us.

"You could no more remove these Shiites from Iraq than you could remove Southern Baptists from the US. "

I didn't propose that....I simply proposed killing Sadr, and all the thugs that wish to die with him.

"Tough words but hopelessly misguided analysis, ..."

It's far too early for folks like you to pretend you have all the answers as to how to bring this mess to an acceptable conclusion -- VICTORY....

Not just tough words from me......I don't pretend to KNOW how to resolve the mess we've got on our hands in Iraq, but I've a bit of experience is seeing what happens when wars are fought using the PC rules of diplomats.... We failed to secure victory...

To borrow an observation from another Freeper who had experience in Vietnam...
Fight like WWII, end like WWII...
Fight like Vietnam, end like Vietnam....
