Joining what some are calling the nation's largest mobilization of immigrants ever, hundreds of thousands of people boisterously marched in downtown Los Angeles Saturday to protest federal legislation that would crack down on undocumented immigrants, penalize those who help them and build a security wall on the U.S. southern border. Spirited crowds representing labor, religious groups, civil-rights advocates and ordinary immigrants stretched over 26 blocks of downtown Los Angeles from Adams Blvd. along Spring Street and Broadway to City Hall, tooting kazoos, waving American flags and chanting "Si se puede!" (Yes we can!). The crowd, estimated by police at more than 500.000, represented one of the largest protest marches in Los Angeles history, surpassing Vietnam War demonstrations and the 70,000 who rallied downtown against Proposition 187, a 1994 state initiative that denied public benefits to undocumented migrants.

Many of the marchers were immigrants themselves both legal and illegal -- from Mexico and Central America. Some had just crossed the border, while others had been here for decades. There were construction workers and business owners; families with young children and people in wheelchairs. Throughout the afternoon, protesters heard speakers demand a path toward legalization and denounce HR 4437, which would tighten border enforcement and crack down on employers who hire undocumented workers.
The rally was organized by numerous unions, religious organizations and immigrant rights groups and publicized through Spanish-language media, which encouraged participants to wear white to symbolize peace and bring American flags. The mostly peaceful march stretched over 26 blocks, shutting down streets and tying up traffic around downtown for hours. Police estimated the crowd at 500,000... Participants said the massive mobilization shows that immigrants' voices must be heard and that they are contributing to the country's economy.

you've accused me of hiring illegal aliens. you've accused me of lying about it -- after allegedly saying it, which is beyond weird -- you've accused me to failing to declare my income, you've accused me of irresponsible management of my business, and you've intimated that I'm either stupid or conniving.
Would you care to identify yourself? Are you man enough to stand behind your words?
I am here in LA waiting for a race riot... Scares the living hell out of me... I am appalled at seeing the sea of Mexican flags... They are very bold and emboldened by their current status... almost entitled... we must stop this and make them respect our country and this must be rammed down the throats of all of the politicians in this country or there will be another civil war...
And not the greed mongers who extend their stay by employing them claiming they can't run a "legitimate" business without them?
Sorry ... the confession is meeting with bad reviews in our little trashed hoodlet.
I knew you couldn't make the statement. Adios!
What else but THIS could bring out cripplingly large crowds of wannabes and lawbreakers---is there ANY chance of a comparable march AGAINST these bullies and what they stand for? NO. So-----for all practical purposes, game over. Failure to launch a counteroffensive to this will be happily seen as acquiesence. And it is.
"those people do not even come close to outnumbering us folks who want reform"
Very true, one short weekend people show up to protest in the street, stopping cities, causing all sorts of congestion, and attention with free news coverage.
But, While for a very long time, 100s of thousands have been protesting peacefully blogging in communities like this with no news coverage as the silent majority.
These numbers do not mean anything.
Sorry ... the confession is meeting with bad reviews in our little trashed hoodlet.
Please clarify.
There are many here on FR that don't like the idea of having to have ID if they are American citizens. So those without ID would be good to go.
No, the invasion is over. It is now an occupation.
Aliens, waiving the Flag of their country, "demanding to be heard!" Demanding their "Rights!" Wait till 'Glorious Leader' arises among those people and 'demands' a greater share of the wealth. Closer ever closer comes the Social War. The so called leadership of this country is bankrupt.
LINE UP THE BOXCARS.
CNN had some of these outlaws on TV today. To a person, they all said they had a right to be in the USA because they were doing work that Americans wouldn't do. Sounded almost like our politicians. With all those Mexican flags flying over California today, I'd say the battle is lost.
Same here!
What if none of the legal citizens filed a tax return? It is that time of year. Your vote doesn't seem to mean much, but if the government finds nobody pays taxes it might get their attention.
"No way there are that many, and even if there were, those people do not even come close to outnumbering us folks who want reform."
The only problem with that is 'us folks' respect the law and they don't.. that many people protesting in one place, who obviously don't care about obeying our LAWS is a powder keg.. I wouldn't want to be living in any place that had that many people gathering into what could become a RIOT. They need to be stopped, NOW.
About 10 percent of the households in the Bay Area are considered "linguistically isolated" with no adults speaking English proficiently.
The barrage of accusations, fables, and paranoid babbling from you is beyond uncalled for. Of course you would never do that in a public place. Though I wish you would.
Incidentally, the word "confessional," which you have apparently presumed implied some wrongdoing or a "guilty conscience," has been used in literature to indicate "talkative, self-revealing," which my post was.
Even though you can hide behind your screen name and say without a stitch of accountability any irresponsible thing you want to anyone, you will always know what a coward you are.
On your FR page you make claims to Christianity. Surely you know, then that the devil himself is The Accuser.
So now we know who your real father is, anyway.
I agree, enough is enough.. if this kind of thing dosen't wake up the powers that be then nothing will. I feel for you, wouldn't want to be in the thick of that mess.. stay safe.
