KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) -- Senior Muslim clerics are demanding that an Afghan man on trial for converting from Islam to Christianity be executed, warning that if the government caves in to Western pressure and frees him, they will incite people to "pull him into pieces."
In an unusual move, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice telephoned President Hamid Karzai on Thursday seeking a "favorable resolution" of the case of Abdul Rahman. The 41-year-old former medical aid worker faces the death penalty under Afghanistan's Islamic laws for becoming a Christian.
His trial has fired passions in this conservative Muslim nation and highlighted a conflict of values between Afghanistan and its Western backers.
"Rejecting Islam is insulting God. We will not allow God to be humiliated. This man must die," said cleric Abdul Raoulf, who is considered a moderate and was jailed three times for opposing the Taliban before the hard-line regime was ousted in 2001.

Scary and eerily similar to that trash TV program where what's her name is the president. Opening episode about her on AF1 moving A/Cs around like toys confronting a Muslim country for wanting to execute a woman for having an abortion or committed adultery or something (didn't see it, just heard about it).
GW needs to spell it out to the 'gannies' and tell'em "Homey Don't Plat Dat!" Otherwise just nuke that damn country and have done with it.

This is obviously a ploy, to incite the muslim population againt the west.
Nonsense, Muslims are already incited against the west. It is the west that needs to be incited and this is just the thing to do it. I could not think of a more effective way to wake westerners up from their denial regarding the incompatibility of sharia law as a foundation for the constitution of a free society.

I know as a Christian I'm not to judge what is in the hearts of others, God help me because I can't stop judging in these cases.
Leave that up to God. We stick to judging the fruit of their labors.

What we need is for some decent God fearing me to stand up and tell these specifically outspoken clerics that if this man or any other dies for converting we will personally hold them accountable with their heads.
Strictly as an official US policy. I would never call for violence in a post.
We aint asking them to convert or die. Just to quit killing folks who want to convert. And if they don't then they should swing. Starting with the leaders who promote this.

I have no idea how you know that he is not a Christian but here is what is most frightening to me:
"Rejecting Islam is insulting God. We will not allow God to be humiliated."
That does not bode well for any one of us that calls ourselves Christian and thus rejects Islam. That statement is the true face of Islam.

I suppose the purpose of all of this is not to show "us" what Islam is all about, but to show Islamics what Islam is all about.
It's the Crucifix effect upon sinful hearts that demand death of Innocence for reasons that their pride has been inconvenienced.
Remember Teri Schiavo?

Ummm...because he's a Born Again Christian, or as he put it, a "Jesus Follower."
That's good enough for me.
Too bad it's not for you, huh?

CNN's founder Ted Turner is on the record as saying Christians are nuts.
That his views are still the same were confirmed by his ex wife recently (long after Turner issued his "apology".)
Apparently the culture of hate against Born Again Christians that Turner fostered before his long-ago departure still thrives at CNN.
Not that you needed this egregious act (deliberately selecting a photo of a WORLDWIDE HERO to make him look crazy) for proof.
After all, it's President Bush's Born Again Christianity that fuels the most passionate hate amongst his political enemies (at CNN and elsewhere.)
Those who think it's anything else (war in Iraq, social security, tax cuts etc) haven't got a clue...

What I don't understand is why the Bush administration went public with Condoleeza's pleas to Karzai. What they should have done was communicate with him privately, so as to lessen the appearance of Western influence on his decision-making. I don't see how Karzai can intervene without being perceived as a Western stooge.
