Now hear this:
Thanks to John McCain, Free Republic will shut down tomorrow at high noon for 30 days. No non government approved electioneering messages may be transmitted over the internet for the 30 days immediately preceding a primary election.
That is all.
The above exercise was just a drill. But if John McCain has his way with his proposed rules for regulating political free speech on the internet, this is how we will be forced to operate in the coming election cycle and all election cycles in the future until we can get the unconstitutional McCain-Feingold act repealed.

If the thought of losing your right to express yourself online makes you mad, it is high time you let Senator John McCain know how you feel.

Guess we can keep our chat forum open (as long as no one mentions the elections). I shot a rat off of my bird feeder today. Great head shot with a 22. Killed him deader than a, er, rat. I'll keep you posted as regards future accomplishments.

So tell us, Thud, what is the personal exposure to out founder if the FEC regs go into effect next week or soon thereafter? Isn't he the one that has skin in the game? I would love to see him fight any sanction all the way to SCOTUS but cannot ask him to do that on his own nickle or at his own peril.

Why didn't our Prez veto this in the first place...? W has an allergy against the veto pen. He's the only President in history (there was a graph posted here a couple of days ago) who has not exercised a veto.

I'm not going anywhere and not doing anything special. No offshore servers or napster style software for FR. When the time comes, we keep on posting. Harder and louder than ever. This battle has to go to the Supreme Court. I don't even want the blogger exemption to pass. The unconstitutional McCain-Feingold must be struck down in its entirety!! It's all or nothing.

Tnank you Jim Robinson for exposing John (whatever works for me ) McCain, for the self serving sonovabitch he is , was and always will be.

Then maybe FReepers ought to cancel the election?

Cried for hours... LOL! True, FR2 is like making it with a blow-up doll. I mean , like I think it would be with a blow-up doll. You know, 'cause I never did it with, you know, a blow-up doll.
You know.

Actually, he made slightly clear umpteen posts above that this was an alert; a call-to-action warning to get on the stick before it came to that . . . I don't recall the post number.
And, I hesitate to note this because it seems good to have everyone this energized. Maybe more will take action, then.

If this happens, might I suggest you put up some sort of BLACK BANNER mourning our 1ST ammendment right to free speech.Sorry, but that's political. Can't have it. All the web will carry is CNN, and all the radio stations will carry is Barbra Streisand show tunes. So let it be written, so let it be done.

I foresee a FReeper rebellion at voting booths should Mr. McCain become a candidate. What an @$$hat he is to do this to us. Whatever happened to free speech (or in this case, any speech)?

I told people McCain destroyed the First Ammendment, but no one listened.

Interesting the complaints about McCain. For some reason I remember another Republican actually signing this bill into law. Could somebody remind me which Republican leader actually signed this bill? I even looked at the Constitution and do you know there's an Article that deals with the powers of this specific politician? Did you know that according to the Constitution this politician could have even vetoed this bill? Frankly I couldn't believe it. I thought somehow the veto power had been taken away from that office, as the politician occupying the office now has never vetoed a single thing.
But nope let's get made at McCain eh? Of course my opinion of McCain is about as much as it is for any of the other politicians in Washington, which is not much.
