Now that the Dubai Ports deal is apparently down the drain because of irate protests from the public and Congress, the United Arab Emirates company is taking a new tack.
The San Francisco Examiner recently carried a column by P.J. Corkery that told how the UAE ,through its government-controlled Dubai Investment Group, is trying to buy the Knight-Ridder newspaper chain after failing to acquire the Albertsons grocery chain.
Corkery outlined who is the front man in this deal, and who is doing the lobbying and buying for Dubai. This is what he wrote: The Yank partner of the Dubai Investment Group is quite a well-known name. He is a big-time Democratic contributor and grocery store magnate, Ron Burkle of Beverly Hills. Burkles bidding entity is called the Yucaipa Cos.
Yucaipas chief marketing guy is Bill Clinton. Burkle pays Clinton $10 million a year for his serviceswhich are mainly to drum up money in Dubai. Bill flies to Dubai so often on Burkles 757 that he calls it Air Ron. Clinton, of course, has lately been defending the Dubai Ports deal, while his wife opposes it. Oh, and also on the Yucaipa Cos board is the Rev. Jesse Jackson.
Burkles Democratic connections run deep, Corkery said, and include doing business with CALPERS, thats the huge California public employees pension fund. He also has ties to: former Vice President Al Gore and his new media network; California gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides; and the notorious political figure and former mayor of San Francisco, Willie Brown, now a host on the Air America Radio network, who once worked for Burkle.
Most are not surprised all the corruption in national politics is not just on the Republican side. Many decry the one big club, sometimes known as the corporate world or the one big New World Order house. Check any major present or former politicians Wall Street connections, and check the boards of directors of major corporations. The facts are there.
Yeah, there's been a lot of dup posts today!
Oh no, if the UAE owns a MSM entity here in the US, they could write anti-American, anti-patriotic pieces, undermine the President at every turn, and make two-faced comments about supporting the troops, and then, making their jobs harder at the same time!!
Oh, wait. Nevermind, that's what the MSM already does.
Burkle is Clinton's bag man
From a Daily News link.
Can Sheik Mo have your permission?
The saudis own a bit of Fox.
Too late...McClatchy already bought Knight-Ridder. (2 weeks ago).

I'm just wondering when our pols start suggesting we copy FDR and round up all Arabs into controlled facities. Amazing, really, to see how people never really change. Japanese in WWII, and now all Arabs=terrorists.
Meanwhile what was done in WWII to the Japanese in this country disgusts me, just as much as the garbage being thrown against UAE is disgusting me.

I wonder how many AmericaFirst! heads are going to explode defending the poor, defenseless Knight-Ridder from the eeevil A-rabs?
the poliiical corruption issues presented here aside.
I don't see any reason why they can't buy a newspaper chain - I believe there are already some rules governing the concentration of foreign ownership allowed in the US media? But generally speaking, the US media is so wide open now with the internet and satellite radio, there are plenty of sources available.
And I don't see any reason why they shouldn't have been able to buy a supermarket chain - why did the Albertson's deal fall through?

Nothing could make them more of the enemy within than they already are, not even being bought by North Korea!
This article explains a lot. One question that nags at me is why there hasn't been a push towards alternative fuels as part of the WOT. If gasoline is rendered obsolete, a major source of funding of terrorist activity dries up.
I see the inherent sarcasm in your question, and thats OK. this whole CFIUS process requires that intelligent judgements be made, and judgements mean that someone wins and someone loses.
would we let the UAE buy Gateway computers? sure.
would we let the UAE buy Cray computers? no. why not? is there a difference? of course there is. we make a judgement.
would we let the UAE buy Cessna aircraft. sure.
would we let the UAE buy Lockheed Martin? no.
would we let the UAE buy some US company that made yachts? sure.
would we let the UAE buy the Newport News aircraft carrier shipyards? no.
if we assign the xenophobe and racist tags to any judgements we might make on decisions like this, then we might as well just hang a FOR SALE sign around the statue of liberty's neck.
Dubai - Clinton - Burkle = Burkle "is" Clinton's bag man. You're right about that.
Absolutely ... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$
