Fine - the question has 2 subparts:
a) Do you want to see all LEGAL immigration to the U.S. stopped as a temporary measure to get a handle on ILLEGAL immigration?
b) Do you want to see all LEGAL immigration to the U.S. stopped altogether?
Exactly my point, but let's start with the basics I guess first.
OK by this post then you defeat your own economic based argument. You know, the one where you put economics before the rule of law.
What makes you think any Illegal would respect any law when they break the law the instant they cross the border without permission?
Please re-read then.
Neither. I think we need to adjust the legal quota for immigration, but get rid of all the illegals currently hammering hte system.
Avoiding another Great Depression would justify changing quite a few "laws", I would hope.
BASIC: Crossing the border without permission is a crime. It is illegal, it is against the law. You have cited you want to give these folks a path to citizenship so in effect you seek to reward criminals with citizenship opportunity.
I am all for folks that want to come here and melt into the pot with the rest of us. You know, folks that believe the most basic of ideals. Rule of Law.
Who brought up going to the mods? You or me?
I understand that you already answered - the "subparts" are for all those people I pinged (you know, the ones I named when you called "Bull Sh*T"?).
I brought up the idea: "if YOU want to go to the Mods, be my guest".
I have a question for you clawrence. Where do native Americans fit into your vision of what this country is. You will say this is a nation made up of immigrants. To a degree I agree with that. I offer to you that folks born here in this nation seem to be dismissed by your ( and others) position when you say things of that nature.
Why did you speak about Mods?
You want to reward illegal behavior. For Mexicans at least.
Because I disagreed with your "judgment" that the following was not a personal attack (it really seems like I am just repeating myself here):
"Someday lawyers coming out of lawschool will actually give a care about the law, it sure seems you do not!"
Did you ever watch McEnroe playing tennis? He chose precisely when to go off on a tirade to the chair umpire. I was asking if you really wanted a ruling, even though I don't go on such tirades. Is that easier to understand now?
I once sat at the counter in a hotel restaurant where all the workers were Mexicans. They were telling funny stories in Spanish, I undertood them and laughed. The two guys stared at me and then took off running out the back entrance. Thought I was INS, I guess. Adios muchachos!
I think native Americans were once immigrants as well. If you are so concerned about "folks born here in this nation" how about children of illegal immigrants who are deemed under the United States Constitution to be citizens?
I would not be giving that particular legal advice myself.
I just said I was fine with illegals being forced back to their country of origin before applying for something like the Bracero program again. Perhaps you are not reading my posts?
We are not the world's dumping ground.
Why 50,000? Those are 50,000 jobs Americans are lining up at soup kitchens to do. Why not have ZERO, at least temporarily?
