Large Tornado Has Hit The Capitol Of Illinois

A large tornado has moved through Illinois and has just hit the City of Springfield. Spotters reported a large tornado moved through the city. Damage is being reported. Emergency responders are being called in from surrounding areas.

NWS reports that this was a large wedge tornado.

This second line of storms will continue to build and head east (it is not moving north east) (per FOX St. Louis)

The cold front is behind this one and lighting will be bad with this second line of storms that are moving through central MO.

I'm amazed that we still have so many supercells active at this time of night in March. Very rare.

We got hit hard last night. At least 3 tornadoes touched down within 15 miles of me in 3 directions (one was within 5 miles of me). This second line coming through MO is the one that has me worried and still awake. It will hit us at about 3am central time here in southwestern IL along the Mississippi River.

This fellow's son is here in CA, but there is a daughter closer to the dad, so I would think the daughter would have checked in on him. They are a close family, but I am not so sure the CA son knew.

At 96 the fellow's mind is sharp as 25, and though slower, the old guy is very healthy.

My worry for the old gent or anyone back east would be a loss of heat, or electricity.
Even here in CA it is cold for us right now and if we lost heat the house could get into the high 40s which is nothing like what could happen back east. Probably near the 0s back east.
