A large tornado has moved through Illinois and has just hit the City of Springfield. Spotters reported a large tornado moved through the city. Damage is being reported. Emergency responders are being called in from surrounding areas.
NWS reports that this was a large wedge tornado.
Thank you!
NW Arkansas. Damage being reported. Possible injuries. Semi-trucks have been overturned on a state highway northeast of Bentonville/Rogers, AR.
Oh my, I know where Rogers is. This is not good, not good at all.
Sorry guys, but I will take an earthquake any day.
Also a lot of damage in Neosho MO.
Second hand report on another board that "Something went wrong" at the Illinois State Capital building.
I wonder what that could be. What a shame for Springfield. Tomorrow will be interesting.
SANGAMON IL 3978 8964 PEOPLE UNACCOUNTED FOR ON SOUTH GRAND AVENUE. POWER OUTAGES FROM I-72 AND ROUTE 4 THROUGH I-72 AND I-55. (ILX)
Blacktop....mulitiple explosions.
Karl?
Yeah, always sort of interesting how risk perception is.
Earthquakes are a much, much greater threat to life and property in this country than tornadoes. But it's an enormous amount of damage very widely spaced in time.
He thought it was something in Kewanee.
I grew up in the midwest, so I know the fear of hitting the basement, and yes, I'd rather have NO warning and wham, it's over.
BUT!
I don't WANT one anyway! And I want all of THIS to stop for the midwest, too..!!
police pursuit in Ill?
This supercell has been dropping tornadoes (it is night so difficult to see) from south of Tulsa, across to nw Arkansas and moving into Mo in a few minutes.
When daylight, we may have much more damage, but this tornado (or spawns) has been moving nearly 100 miles, doing damage.
Golfball size to tennis ball to softball size hail, up to 18 inches deep in some locations.
Eureka Springs and Holiday Island, Arkansas, are next areas in its path--immediately.
Good grief. I was listening to some reporter on channel 5, and he was saying that South County does NOT have a tornado warning siren system!!! Glad I'm in West County, sheesh!
I'm down in the basement now. Guess I'll be up for a while longer to see if it dies down before it gets to us.
It's all quiet here right now. No rain or lightening or wind. I feel bad for people that went to bed not knowing about this.
Well the temp dropped 20-30 degree's in the city by me
We have lots of noise and pretty hard rain coming down. The big problem is going to be flooding on account of the Mississippi and various creeks.
Where are you? Don't come up until you feel safe.
And thank you, btw. :)
