Unrest in Pakistan Setback for Terror War

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- A week of unprecedented urban fighting in the wild tribal belt of North Waziristan has left scores dead and forced thousands to flee their homes, raising the stakes in Pakistan's war on Islamic militancy along the Afghan border.

A jumbled alliance of foreign militants, local tribesmen and Islamic students eager for jihad have stepped up resistance in a region where the army already claims to have wiped out al-Qaida as a viable fighting force.

The unrest, brewing for months, is a setback to the U.S.-led war on terror. Further hampering that effort are deteriorating relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan over Afghan claims that Taliban leader Mullah Omar is hiding in Pakistan and suicide bombers are training here.

An American Muslim was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years in prison for joining Al Qaeda and plotting to assassinate President Bush.

Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, a 25-year-old U.S. citizen who was born to a Jordanian father and raised in Falls Church, Va., faced a mandatory minimum of 20 years in prison and a maximum of life behind bars.

On March 27, 2006, federal agents executed a search warrant at the residence of NEIL KRAMER and seized $67,000 in cash, numerous identity and travel documents withheld from debtors, and a phony New York City Marshal’s stamp. Earlier today, federal agents searched a safe deposit box belonging to KRAMER and seized approximately $500,000 in cash.

I wonder if this is the guy with the mansion in New Jersey that was raided? We reported on that here at TM.

According to Robert Justich, a senior managing director at Bear Stearns Asset Management in New York, current estimates of the illegal alien population (most news articles cite the old 8 to 13 million figure) are too low. He puts the figure at 18 million to 20 million.

And it's not just the 8 million or 13 or 20 million that is the issue -- if only that were so.

Last night Tom Tancredo said that these people (he said 30 million) will be the anchors for their relatives who will be allowed to immigrate, and Tancredo put that figure at around 70 million!

[That's if only 2 or so relatives come in with each illegal who becomes an anchor. It could be more.]

So we're looking at a figure of around 100 million people who would gain entry to this country in a very short time.

How can we possibly assimilate that large a bloc? It really does not bode well for the near future, much less the distant future, of this country.

DETROIT, March 29 /U.S. Newswire/ -- An indictment charging 19 individuals with operating a global racketeering conspiracy was unsealed in federal district court today, announced United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan Stephen J. Murphy. The indictment alleges that portions of the profits made from the illegal enterprise were given to Hizballah, a foreign terrorist organization. Nine of the individuals were arrested this morning.

"Fighting terrorism and keeping our citizens safe from its reach are the number one priorities of this office," said U.S. Attorney Murphy. "The law enforcement agencies involved in the case unsealed today must be applauded for their collective effort to bring together an investigation with this sort of global reach. Together, we will use all of the legal tools available to us to disrupt criminal activity that funds terrorist organizations."

The indictment charges that between 1996 and 2004, a group of individuals worked together in a criminal enterprise to traffic in contraband cigarettes, counterfeit Zig Zag rolling papers and counterfeit Viagra to produce counterfeit cigarette tax stamps, transport stolen property and launder money. The enterprise operated from Lebanon, Canada, China, Brazil, Paraguay and the United States. The indictment, returned by a federal grand jury on April 14, 2004, was sealed pursuant to a court order until today.

Arrested this morning by members of the Detroit Joint Terrorism Task Force ("JTTF") were: Karim Hassan Nasser, 37, of Windsor, Ontario; Fadi Mohamad-Musbah Hammoud, 33, of Dearborn, Mich.; Majid Mohamad Hammoud, 39, of Dearborn Heights, Mich.; Jihad Hammoud, 47, of Dearborn, Mich.; Youssef Aoun Bakri, 36, of Dearborn Heights, Mich.; Ali Najib Berjaoui, 39, of Dearborn, Mich.; Mohammed Fawzi Zeidan, 41, of Canton, Mich.; Imad Majed Hamadeh, 51, of Dearborn Heights, Mich.; Adel Isak, 37, of Sterling Height, Mich.

Also named in the indictment, but not arrested today because they currently reside outside of the United States were Imad Mohamad- Musbah Hammoud, 37 of Lebanon, formerly of Dearborn, Mich.; Hassan Ali Al-Mosawi, 49, of Lebanon; Hassan Hassan Nasser, 36, of Windsor, Ontario; Ali Ahmad Hammoud, 64, of Lebanon; Karim Hassan Abbas, 37, formerly of Dearborn, Mich.; Hassan Mohamad Srour, 30, of Montreal, Quebec; Naji Hassan Alawie, 44, of Windsor, Ontario; and Abdel-Hamid Sinno, 52, of Montreal, Quebec.

Theodore Schenk, 73, of Miami Beach, Fla. was not arrested today but will be voluntarily surrendering himself for arraignment on April 10, 2006.

Just think how brazen these people will be if an attack or pandemic hits. They probably have more arms and ammunition than we do and no food so they will be roving in gangs. Not as though they don't do that already. There was an attack in a new neighborhood up here by home invasion robbers stealing whatever they can get their hands on. And, it was not the first time in this neighborhood, but usually robbery while homeowners were gone. Thankfully not where I live, but we get the big city news. I used to think California was bad, but Texas is so much worse.

They are being sponsored and supported by those in the shadows that wish this countries demise. I do think they are well on their way to accomplishing that.
