Perhaps a bad review set them off.

I am even less surprised to hear that they're theatre majors than you were to hear that they're white. :P

"Yoots" is Rush Limbaugh's deliberate mispronounciation of "youths".

(Above right) Russ DeBusk, a freshman theatre major from Hoover, works on part of the set for All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten.

I suspect Rush picked it up from Joe Pesci's character in My Cousin Vinny.

"And based on the types of "disaffected" theater majors I have known, it's not at all surprising that some would act out like this. It also supports my supposition that there's a "goth" influence for at least one of them."
Could be. Go search around the University site. One of them is also a Teenage Ninja Turtles fan. Weird!
I'm betting that the whole thing is some sort of student film deal, and that these idiots were too stoned to even realize that what they were doing was so horrible.
There's also a reference to the kid, not DeBusk, in someone's MySpace entry, with a reference to Birmingham-Southern, but I haven't found the kids own entry...yet.
This one is going to be fascinating to follow, especially with the theater link. Uffda!

Did he learn to burn churches in kindergarten as well?

Theater majors? Hollywood will love them, probably do a movie about them and, if they'll only proclaim they are homosexuals, give them some sort of Academy Award.

Here ya go.
Gonna miss the opening of, "The Hills Have Eyes."

The immediate suspicion is that they were leftists, possibly homosexual lovers and maybe influenced by the Goth youth culture. Unlike, say, Vermont, where there is little conservative cultural or religious influence, Alabama has a strong evangelical, and particularly Baptist, influence. The church burnings may have been their acting out of their hatred for that influence. Perhaps the ACLU has had the same thoughts, since they responded very quickly to the defense of the suspects.
To: najida
They may be acting out a scene from that.Perhaps. The lady in the pic will need to get lawyered up. Likely these nitwits are going to claim that their "expression" is infringed....If they did these things, and anyone else knew about the crimes/filmed the crimes; the proscribed penalty should be harsh. For all involved.

Yes, I read on that site that they did "Extremities" last year.
I can't get any of the pics to come up anymore; the server must be getting hit hard.

Thank you!
I couldn't think of the name of the play....
All I could see in my head was Farrah Fawcet with a can of bug spray.
