Really, poor thing.
I hadn't heard about the lung cancer at all.

She had young kids as well, so though there is money, I hope there are some family surviving for those kids.

Thanks.

You have closed your mind.

Supposedly, about twenty centuries ago, many people witnessed before their very eyes a man performing medical miracles greatly exceeding today's artificial hearts and face transplants. Later, after he was murdered, a few men saw him rise from the dead. They believed.

Today? I get to hear street preachers tell me to read a book about a man that performed miracles and rose from the dead. See the disconnect?

My mind is so open that you can see the ridges. When pro wrestling matches end in death or paralysis, I will believe wrestling's real. And when I see just a fraction of the EVIDENCE the original believers had the privilege of weighing, I will investigate some more.

Fair? I think so. Suspension of disbelief is not an adequate substitute for observation. Cheers.

So sad - esp. b/c of the son who has to see both his parents die at such a young age (him and them).

The bits of news coverage I've caught on cable news has been a little irritating -- seems like they're all trying to capitalize on the Reeves' family tragedy to champion their cause for embryonic stem-cell research.

the Larry King show tonight is perhaps the most disgusting I have ever seen. total politicization of the death of this woman, bashing Bush for "cutting" medical funding, Kerry was on, etc.

It was just unreal.

Lung cancer in a non-smoker is NOT "very rare". Get your facts straight. There is actually an increasing number of lung cancer cases in non-smokers. Doctors have seen a huge increase in the number of cases and are puzzled and worried about the spike. More people are killed by lung cancer than any other form of cancer, yet the funding for lung cancer research lags behind many other forms of cancer research.

Radon gas and asbestos cause lung cancer too, in addition to cigs. God bless Dana and her family.

Thanks, Aloha Ronnie, for the note. Truly sad. I had NO idea she had cancer. AM TV shows.

I had an anti-smoking Nazi dr about a year ago who ripped me a new one for smoking.

I told him, "I need cigarettes to get through my day."

He actually sneered. He said, "Your life must be really sad if the only thing that gets you through the day is a cigarette."

I said, "Oh, no! One cigarette doesn't get me through a day. It takes a whole pack. See, my son has a disease which will probably kill him before he turns 40. I have to stay up until 3AM most nights to make sure he keeps breathing and live with the fact that I'll probably bury my own child. Sometimes I go for weeks without more than 4 or 5 hours of sleep a night. My husband's a soldier and leaves for months or years at a time. My mother's dying of liver failure and Grave's disease and I'm helping her through that process. The insurance doesn't cover all my son's medications so we're about to bankrupt. I have a rare disease that puts me in the hospital about once a year and disables me for about half my waking hours. My daughter needs to have two major corrective surgeries over the next three years and, while we're waiting for the first surgery she's living in constant pain.

"Yes. I suppose my life's really friggin' sad. And, yes. I *NEED* a friggin' smoke. It's either that or Prozac. At least on cigarettes I won't snap and put the whole lot out of their misery.

"I'm doing whatever it takes to get through the day. You don't like it, you can cram it. Just patch me up as best you can to keep me in the fight."

He didn't get it and I don't expect you to. Prejudice runs deep.

I have the most beautiful five year old grandson who had been a two pound preemy. I try not to preach but if there were one thing I could do I'd have my daughter-in-law stop smoking. She believes that smoking in the basement family room when my grandson is in another part of the house is okay.

If it makes you feel any better, my mother smoked around me all my life and the smoking never caused me harm. My best friend smoked while preggers with both of her kids and they were 10 and 8 pounds. Genius IQ's, both of them. My kids suffered terrible asthma *until* I started smoking. I have a friend who has terrible asthma and has discovered that a cigarette handles her worst attacks better than her inhaler. She keeps a pack around just for such occasions. All but one blood member of my family smokes and *none* of the smokers have had a smoking-related problem. The only non-smoker hold-out has had serious health issues.

The dangers are real, but they are seriously over-hyped. I'm sure your granddaughter is not in danger if her mother smokes at the other end of the house.

And hey, let's not be too hasty with the "troll" tag, there. We're allowed to dissent, last time I checked.

No. I don't think you're a troll, based on this one thread. Yes, I do think you're allowed to have an opinion. And I'm allowed to disagree with you.

YOU'RE FINE! ;-) (And, if you're a conservative, we'll learn to love you even if we squabble over the details!)

Not only that but a friend was diagnosed as having lung cancer, given three months to live, shut down her business and went to Mayo Clinic to learn that she's got a fungus. A local doc in the area got the same mis-diagnosis.

Hey! While living in AZ my daughter became very sick. The ER doc showed us her lab X-rays with "fungus balls" in her lungs. A month on anti-fungal meds and she was right as rain.

and there are a lot of theories about stress. I think in time we will come to see that this plays a pivotal role in certain and maybe even all cancers.

Great. I'm dead.

Thanks, John O! I agree completely with what you have said (although you startled me a bit when I read the first sentence or two!)

For I cannot accept any of today's unsupported-by-evidence preaching as a "light" that I have been "given." My life has been interrupted on occasion by Christians "witnessing" something they admit happened 1900+ years before they were born. Like you, they speak with courtesy, passion, conviction, and familiarity with whatever they believe in. What's lacking, however, is any trace of EXPLANATION.

The Bible IS the explanation. If you reject that, you have rejected the primary means of knowing God for yourself.

P.S. Did the doc determine what caused the formation of these fungus balls?
