(snip)
Then he sets up what starts out like a winner, noting how a lot of people say this town is too liberal
out of touch with Mainstream America
a moral black hole where innocence is obliterated in an orgy of sexual gratification and greed
But then he ends with, I dont really have a joke here.

I don't go to the movies for two reasons: (a) the content leans to the left, but mostly (b) the movies sound boring.I've got to look hard, but I've found some really enjoyable foreign movies.
Danny Deck Chair.....is a hoot....Australia
Seducing Dr. Lewis......sort of like Doc Hollywood....Canada.

I liked him, too. He took some excellent shots at Hollywood.

He told one Cheney hunting joke that was actually funny (Bjrok couldn't be here tonight. She was trying on her outfit and Cheney shot her - you have to remember that Bjork wore the outfit with the swan on it a few years ago). That's more of joke about ridiculous fashion than politics. After reading what he said, he "bombed" like a skinny guy telling fat jokes at a Weight Watchers meeting. Funny, but not to that crowd.

Actually, to revise my comments, it's more like another fat guy making fun of fat people at a Weight Watcher's meeting.

I think that most of the problem stemmed from the fact that the jokes were funny to people who had a brain or were free thinkers. That obviously ruled out the audience he had.

I saw minutes of it -- and I heard Jon's joke about "Cinderella Man -- how difficult it was for Make-Up to make Russell Crowe look like he'd been in a fight."
The camera panned to Mr. Crowe. He looked tentative. And the audience snickered -- they didn't laugh.
Another bomb for Jon -- but I loved it.
That Hollywood group can dish it out -- but they can't take it!

The funniest Oscar line ever was when Letterman introduced Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins as presenters. He said something like, "Here they come and they're sure to be p___ed off about something, so listen up." Needless to say, he was never invited back.

they can't run up the side of a building like spiderman
Actually.... I have personally watched it happen. And, not by a trained martial artist, but by a trained Dallas paramedic. The guy literally ran up the side of our college dorm and into a 3rd story window.
Now, the final battle scene up in the top of the bamboo forest is another matter....

When Ang Lee won for Crouching Cowboy Hidden Salami, I understood his view of the old west was colored by his San Fran Chinatown experiences. What's Jon Stewarts excuse? There are no Jewish cowboys!

Jon Stewart is usually funny, he pokes fun at both parties, even though he is a liberal.. i spent oscar night, watching science channel doing a tribute to Newton, Albert Einestein and Steven Hawkings... but if i knew jon was going to be ragging on hollywood elite, i would have tuned in.
To: sportutegrl
I didn't watch. I watched Ollie North's "War Stories" instead, and enjoyed seeing how Hollywood used to behave during a war--and I wished today's Hollyweirdos would have watched, too, and taken notes.

I think you just came up with the new title for 'Brokeback Mountain - The Sequel'.

Plus the fact that Brokeback didn't win, and they are feeling pretty snippy this morning.I heard on local (SF) radio this morning that they were openly weeping in each others arms when Crash got the Best Picture award.

I thought it was a good movie. At the time I watched it, I did not get the feeling that it was Oscar worthy, but maybe it was considering the competition.
